Looking Up (Updated and Expanded Edition) (Large Print Edition): Understanding Prophetic Signs in the Constellations and How the Heavens Declare the Glory of God
SIGNS IN THE HEAVENS. Until the mid-20th century, the heavens were the greatest show on Earth. Ancient people recognized the same constellations we do today, though they understood the signs behind those pictures in the sky in a way that’s been lost to us – until now. Troy Brewer reveals the connection between the story in the stars and the Biblical account of the fall of man and redemption through Jesus. What does the night sky tell us about God’s plan? How does the Almighty speak through the constellations? The answers are astounding as the dramatic truth about the cosmos is unveiled for these last days. The time is short. We should all be Looking Up .
First of all, God calls astrology the work of the Devil, I have a hard time believing that the Prophetic signs in the constellations and how the heavens declare the glory of God in the Author's Troy Brewer book.
Absolutely intriguing book about the history and story behind the nighttime sky ...the stars and constellations from a true Biblical perspective.. thoroughly enjoyed it! Well worth the read for any Christian or Bible student
This book is an updated-for-modern-day-readers exploration of the ideas in "The Witness of the Stars", which was written sometime in the 1800s. So it's most unfortunate that the updated version is LESS clear about its topic. I have read the "Virgo" chapter of both books - basically as a comparison after the new version lost me entirely - and the 1800s version is better. Mainly due to this one small fact:
It includes the IMAGES of, not only the constellations as they look in the starry sky, but the pictorial depictions of them. Virgo, looking at the stars only, doesn't look anything like a lady holding a sheaf of wheat, and the whole section was about the lady holding the sheaf of wheat, and I had to go to Google to find out what the pictorial Virgo was supposed to look like. This also applies to the discussion of the three minor constellations around Virgo. I'd never heard of any of them before, I had no clue why suddenly the book wasn't talking about Virgo, and because the pictures weren't there, I couldn't pick it up. In the 1800s text, it shows images of the pictorial depiction of all three minor constellations around Virgo, in their position in the night sky i.e. relative to Virgo and each other (which is Kind Of Important if one of the main things you're explaining is what it *means* that the centaur is shooting the wolf. For example.).
Read the original 1800s version. It's got the same sort of thing in the words, the language isn't particularly difficult to understand - and absolutely CRUCIALLY, it includes the images. For this book to work, the images MUST be there.
(I was also irritated by some of the language, which read as if the author were trying to sound hip - and telling us that true seekers would research it themselves and he wasn't going to tell us everything frustrated me more because one of the main points of the book is how this message in the heavens has been twisted! This stuff isn't exactly mainstream, and on Googling it I came across a lot of astrology i.e. Not Good. Although I will say that this - and my complete confusion due to lack of pictures - drove me to the 1800s version - which aside from being comprehensible actually DOES go into at least some of the stuff that Brewer tells us to research ourselves - so there's that. Thank you, Troy Brewer, for mentioning your main source by name very early on - thus allowing me to give up on this book in frustration and try to find out about this concept via that book instead.)
Comparing the two books on their chapters about Virgo (which is as far as I've got in either)... don't bother with this one. Go to the 1800s "The Witness of the Stars" and read about it there. Even if the language is old-fashioned, you'll get a lot less lost.
I'm really sorry I didn't like this book more. It's a fascinating concept. It's just poorly-executed to the extent that I couldn't understand what it was talking about for much of the time. What a difference the original images would have made! (Although I probably still would have been irked by the authorial voice, the images and the resulting understanding of "what the book's talking about" almost certainly would have made it jump from two stars to four - and maybe even five.)
Title: Looking Up Author: Troy A. Brewer Rating:⭐️⭐️ 2. GENRE: Non-fiction
📚SUMMARY & THOUGHTS📚 Brewer shares about Biblical prophecy and the Gospel written in the stars since creation. There are numerous scripture verses, scientific facts as well as Biblical number theories and interpretations of the constellations according to a Biblical Worldview. The writing style vacillates between very casual and academic and the changes can be distracting. * I received this book as a free digital Kindle version from Goodreads Giveaway. Thank you!
📚JOYS📚 I love learning and wanted to find a solid summarizing work for astronomy from a Biblical point of view. I did find some of what I was looking for in these pages and may return to the book to reference some of the facts in the future.
📚CHALLENGES📚 I really wanted to like this book. I was so hopeful that the content would be informative and while it was at times, I often wanted to put down the book due to the authors tone. His disrespectful descriptions of people who do not believe the same things and his regular put downs for those who haven’t invested in the effort to know what he knows was dripping with condescension. I powered through and finished the book but wouldn’t recommend it as the best resource for learning on this topic.
Biblical Astronomy is here and happening! This book breaks down the 12 zodiac signs in the Heavens that tell the story of Jesus from birth to death to resurrection to eternal reign. Troy Brewer does an Amazing job at explaining how God gave us the stars and constellations for our understanding of who Jesus Christ is just by looking up! ~4-Ever, P
