Found this at an op shop and was unsure about the premise but gave it a go for the price and possible horror element. But ugh, it was longer than it needed to be AND the revenge was not satisfying. Jilly literally should have killed them in one night and she surely would’ve made the deaths slow and painful after what they did to her, but instead the deaths happening were dragged out and then not satisfying. And Frank killed the guy with the blue eyes at the end but protected the one guy at the station and calls Jilly a bitch and tries to kill her? Based on the author’s name, I assume this was written by a man, but I can’t think of why he would write this without making the revenge satisfying. If Frank was not a man, but rather a woman, they would have let Jilly get her revenge and only try to kill her for good after if she started hurting innocent people. In conclusion, I don’t recommend. The only cool thing was seeing Gladstone mentioned in the book as I visited there for a month and a half and it was nice to know the geography of that place since I’m new to Australia and don’t know much. Also was cool understandings some of the other aussie words used like “doona”.

Revenge of the Revenant was a strange book to read, at times it felt tedious with excessive detail and at other times it felt impossible to put down. There was also a weird mix of Australian terms and American terms, first degree murder is not an Australian legal charge and we don't use pounds or miles. SPOILERS BELOW! The Ricky Mackinna chapters were my favourite. They're an excellent example of a psychotic break and a realistic description of auditory hallucinations in particular. I didn't like the way each attacker, bar the man with the ice blue eyes, was presented as good young men. While I understand that most will justify their actions in that way but it really rubbed me the wrong way. If you attack an innocent person like that you are a bad person.
