From analyses of the varied geography that encompasses the Asian continent to significant time periods spanning centuries, the book was made in an effort to preserve the work of previous generations.
“A Soldier in the Philippines” is a first-hand account of Needham N. Freemen’s experiences in the Philippine islands as a member of the Regular Army. This work is somewhere between a memoir and a series of vignettes, and details his experiences fighting the Filipino nationalists during the Philippine American War. For those who are interested in the Philippine conflict this would be a good book to read. It provides a first-hand view of not only the Army at the turn of the twentieth century but also the experiences of a common soldier during the war. Overall this work is highly uneven in its presentation but interesting.
