What happens in the brain when we speak? Learn? Recall memories? Until recently, it was hard to tell. But positron emission tomography (PET) and other brain imaging techniques are radically transforming scientists' ability to see the brain at work and measure the changes that occur. Images of Mind explores the latest applications and future potential of the dynamic field of cognitive neurosciences.
Lovely little intro text for cognitive neuroscience. It is clear, coherent, and — though too dated at this point to be an unfailing reference — it was a worthwhile read as a historical token and exemplar of accessible science education. They make very good use of visuals and write in an engaging way, and the topics are fascinating (I’m biased).
Edit: and also I should add that it was enriching to see them weave the threads of how cognitive neuroscience came to be and what is to come for the discipline (at the time of publishing). Some textbooks miss that piece and they did well in making it obvious *why and how* a nexus exists between neuroscience and (cognitive) psychology.
