An in-depth account of the 1906 earthquake that reduced San Francisco to rubble draws on eyewitness accounts to provide a gripping look at the catastrophe, it devastating impact on the city and the nation, and heroic efforts to rebuild the city.
H. Paul Jeffers was an established military historian and author of seventy books. He worked as an editor and producer at ABC, CBS and NBC, and is the only person to have been news director of both of New York City's all-news radio stations. He taught journalism at New York University, Syracuse University, and Boston University.
Just picked this off the shelves at FPL. Interesting how the people of SF pulled together and helped each other, regardless of social class. Also how politics worked into it (even in 1902) from the mayor, to the army, to President Teddy Roosevelt. I didn't know the earthquake, followed by the fire, destroyed so much. Almost beyond comprehension in today's view.
