Sarah and Lindsey go out drinking and dancing to celebrate college graduation. But a psychopath has other plans. Drugged, kidnapped and horrified, the girls awaken in a warehouse, having been thrown into a game of cat and mouse with Cutthroat, a killer with an obsession with mazes. It will be a night Sarah and Lindsey will never forget, if they can survive.
I will admit it – I got this because someone whose opinion I trust said it was worth the read.
You can’t help but to think, if you read the blurb, that this should be a lot like the movie SAW, but in the end I think this might be much closer to the movie CUBE.
You have two friends trapped in a maze with a bunch of other girls, and they must try to get through it alive.
This was the first thing that I’ve read by this author and I was not disappointed. This story, in my opinion, could have been a little more fleshed out and, while not flawless, keeps your attention throughout.
What is very obvious is that we have a very talented writer here and she is someone you should keep your eye on, because she has the potential to have a huge impact on this genre.
Wow, this novella was a banging debut from the author. A unique and utter page turner, which I started in the very late hours, and only stopped reading because sleep was calling.
This story centres around Sarah and Lindsey, who are best friends at college. One night after passing their finals, they decide to go out to their usual club to celebrate. Sarah, after ensuring nobody spikes their drinks throughout the night, decides to have one last drink before heading home with Lindsey...then everything goes black...
This was gory, violent and very extreme, and fans of Splatterpunk will love it.
I’m hoping that there will be a sequel to this, but without a doubt, I’ll definitely be looking forward to reading more from the author.
5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks to Eve L. Fell for sending me a free ARC, in exchange for a free and voluntary review.
This is quite the entertaining short novella. It has alternate vibes of Saw and the Hunger Games, though the story is very different to both of these. Our MC (Sarah) and her friend Lindsey are kidnapped and forced to go through a crucible like maze that leads to blood, mayhem, and cutthroat actions. I guess what really struck me the most was how convincing Sarah’s voice is. They way she talks and the inner monologue. I totally bought that she was say the things she said and think the things going through her head as she tries to survive.
I've got to admit I really liked this story and enjoyed reading it,the characters were easy to bond with and Cutthroat just charmed me as much as he did Sarah! I didn't see the twist at the end coming at all,I would have liked the story to have been a touch longer...but even though it was short it was extremely well written and the maze setting was awesome.Eve L. Fell has the mind of a good extreme horror writer...I look forward to reading more of her work in the future.
Definitely a strong punch for a debut novella and what a pinch it is!
I enjoyed this story very much.
Best friends Sarah and Lindsay get kidnapped on a night out. They wake up dressed as dolls and there are other girls.. all kidnapped and dressed the same. Cutthroat, their kidnapper, orders them to get through a maze. But it has traps. Lots of nasty traps. Will they make it through it? Will they stay alive?
WOW! This was intense as hell and had me in the trenches with emotions. Eve freakin' killed it with this story. From the first page she draws you in and has you in a stranglehold. This story had the BIGGEST PLOT TWIST leaving me absolutely stunned. I can't wait to read more from her in the future.
Phenomenal Debut! Everyone needs to check this one out if you love horror, gore and psychological mind fcks. Dolls is a story about two best friends getting abducted in a club when their drinks are spiked. When Sarah notices something is wrong she immediately tries to get Lindsey to throw up and then herself to save themselves before it's too late. When the besties wake up they find themselves dressed like dolls with several other women dressed the same. They are trapped in a twisted psychopath's maze of death and he makes it known from the very beginning that there will be no survivors.
No, no, no! Nothing makes sense, a gory maze where “dolls”=women, have to successfully get through it without dying. The love stuff made me puke , the explanation for all this story is childish. I don’t mind how pretty and desirable Lindsey is🤷🏻♀️. Lord! Rip my eyes off.
This is Eve's debut novella. After her Gran told her to write down her dreams on waking so that she would be able to one day write stories, that's exactly what she did, and this is the gruesomely brilliant result.
Sarah adores her friend Lindsay, admires everything about her. She is the total opposite of her best friend however. They're celebrating finishing college with a night out. Sarah decides to let her hair down a little more than normal as it's a special occasion, she has a few drinks, but something is not right. They've been drugged and things are about to get pretty damn nasty!!
They black out from the drugs and awaken in a warehouse in some sort of display box and wearing a creepy new outfit, and they are not alone!! When they meet the man that brought them there, who goes by the name of Cutthroat, shit gets real fucked up, real quick, starting with the maze….
Sarah is absolutely determined to get herself and Lindsay out of there alive, whatever it takes. She quickly becomes numb to the horrors and gathers her wits about her, becoming alert to the traps and guiding them both onwards. Not only is she battling with the maze though, she's also battling with her feelings towards Lindsay, and whether or not to come clean and admit just how she feels. And when finally she is confronted with Cutthroat without his mask, she quickly becomes confused. Until the reality hits and she has to make a disturbingly tough decision. But Sarah will do anything for Lindsay, anything! Whatever it takes and however hard that may be.
With great scene setting and clear imagery, I could feel the fear and panic along with the girls. I loved the unexpected twist too, this was a fantastic read, fast paced and full of gore and torture. So much blood and vomit! Like Squid Games meets Saw, I loved it! I just wish it had been longer, maybe delved into the deadly booby traps more…. 😁
I freaking loved this story, Eve did a fantastic job with this story. Now the cover you would think this is going to be about killer porcelain Dolls? You would be SOOO wrong this is a lot worse, think thriller meets Saw and Battle Royal. We follow a strong and relatable relationship between two girls. They go out to celebrate and wake up dressed up as dolls, in boxes as soon as those red lights come on. Shit goes down, I felt an instant connection with the characters. My main focus was Lindsey and Sarah, I wanted them to get out of this situation alive. This story is not only creative but has such an intense atmosphere and pull. The boobytrapped maze, the violence and detail in the kill scenes it was perfectly paced. Then you have Cutthroat, an intimidating and brutal character that is a full on psychopath with a full on narcissism. Who gets a sick pleasure in torturing and killing his 'Dolls.' The deeper we go into the story the more we see Sarah's way of coping with the trauma of what is going on. Her main focus being solely on getting Lindz home safe. She starts to calculate and form a plan in her head of how to survive. Only to be thrown into a complete tailspin when she realises the real reason she is there. That twist at the end is one I had no idea was coming and it hits you square in the chest HARD. Eve is a complex author who knows how to engage readers and make them become emotionally invested in the story. Eve, I have to know…WHEN AM I GONNA GET MORE?!
Dolls is a fun horror story, which fans of Saw will love! Two friends are on a night out to celebrate graduation from college. All seems to be going well until their drinks are spiked, and they wake up in doll boxes, which is where the real fun begins! A strong debut, and I look forward to reading more from this author!
I finished the Eve L Fell debut about a week ago and enjoyed it quite a bit! Strong start to her writing career and definitely one to watch for in the future!
Dolls reminded me of Saw mixed with Aron Beauregard's Playground mixed with the episodes of Pretty Little Liars where the Liars had been kidnapped and put in a literal doll house. I love all 3 of those comparisons, so this is a grand compliment.
The main character is cunning and doesn't give up. She's a smart badass who would do anything for her beautiful best friend. Which is proven over and over.
The plot of this book is great ! It’s a little dark and gruesome . A page turner for sure ! It keeps me reading and was fast paced for sure ! My only request is a follow up ! The end felt slightly rushed and I would love to know more about what happens next !!
“When I open the maze that is when the fun will begin. You beautiful Dolls will go into the maze and try to work your way through it and believe me you don’t want to hit a dead end, so make sure you’re going the right way.”
Amazingly twisted!! What an ending!! Keep your eyes peeled on this new author, Eve definitely knows how to tell a story!!
Dolls is definitely a book I’d love to see turn into a movie or miniseries! It gave me “Incident in a Ghostland” vibes and I love that brutal movie.
Fantastic debut from this author! Twisted and intense it'll have you on the edge of your seat wondering what's going to happen next. I wouldn't be sad if this got turned into a series.
First, let me just say that Cutthroat is 🥵 We need a book that focuses on him 😏 Dolls, the debut novella by the beautiful Eve Fell was one hell of a page turner with plenty of bloody goodness and a pretty f-ed up, unexpected twist at the end.
“Oh, my goodness, how could I be so rude to not introduce myself? My name is Cutthroat. If you laugh or question my name, I will show you just how I got it.”
Best friends Sarah and Lindsey are enjoying their weekend, getting drunk and partying.. unbeknownst to them, they're the target of a psychopathic sadist - Cutthroat who enjoys kidnapping and killing young women in his warehouse of horrors. Dressed as dolls, petrified and confused, will they escape just in time to beat the maze?
Being smart, having your wits about you, and quite frankly not giving a shit about the other victims you've been kidnapped with might just be what keeps you alive.
This was a really fun, short novella. I loved the traps, the gore, and the interactions between the characters and Cutthroat. The twist was a little predictable as I guessed it almost immediately but a good one nonetheless. Definitely worth the read, especially if you're new to the genre.
Dolls masterfully creates a gripping psychological thriller that delves into the darkest corners of human obsession. When two friends celebrating their college graduation find themselves captured by a psychopath known as Cutthroat, they must navigate a treacherous labyrinth designed by their captor. With its skilled blend of tension and intrigue, 'Dolls' is a must-read for fans of the genre and a testament to the author's talent for crafting a nightmarish scenario that feels all too real.
“Dolls” by Eve L. Fell is a gruesome, 4-star read! Sarah and Lindsey are out celebrating their college graduation when things take a horrifying turn. This fast-paced debut novella from Eve L. Fell is a quick but intense read, perfect for fans of extreme horror. Despite its brevity, it delivers plenty of gore, though it does lack in character development. However, the ending sets up the possibility for a sequel, and I’m eager to see where the story goes next.
Thanks to Eve L. Fell for providing me with the opportunity to read this novella and share my honest review.
*I'm not going to give you the 'what this book is about' blurb - you can read that elsewhere.
1. Eve L. Fell is someone to be WATCHED – in a good way! I’ve had the pleasure of reading a few short stories or entries into anthologies that she has written, and those absolutely blew me away; so, I knew her debut novella would be good, I just didn’t realize it would be this good.
2. Definite ‘Saw’ vibes. Or maybe more like Saw, but as a romance 😉. I loved the first couple Saw movies, so I guess it’s not surprising I’d enjoy a novella that gives me the same kind of feelings.
3. While this is a short read, Eve does an amazing job of creating characters – you really fall for them. I am WAY more of a character driven reader than I am a plot driven reader. I mean, I enjoy a strong plot too, but if the characters aren’t relatable in some way, I’m simply not going to care about the plot. In a mere 62 pages, Eve creates characters you feel you know, and that gets you invested in the story even deeper.
4. I’m not going to say much about this, but there’s LGBTQ+ rep, which I'm a complete sucker for.
5. Sarah was a boss-ass-bitch throughout this book. Intelligent, calm, just utter perfection. I need a strong FMC, and I was not let down.
What a hell of a short story! Horrific, tragic, and endearing. So many elements within this quick-read! Great debut, look forward to future works from this author!
DAMN IT. I hate to write 1 star reviews, I really fucking do. But this sucked. I'm sorry. I was so excited to read it because the idea of women being made into dolls alone sounded like it could be crazy awesome. But no, it was ridiculous. The writing infuriated me. The first few pages were random babblings about Lindsey by her obsessive best friend. Lindsey this and Lindsey that and Lindsey and Lindsey and Lindsey. It was like reading a 9 year old's notebook. "Me and Lindsey" was said about seven million times per page. And Sarah is just so cool, just unphased, unworried, not really afraid, has a clear god complex... but she's really just obnoxious as fuck. Everything she says and does. She instantly becomes attracted to the nut job killer once she sees his face, because he's just so hot. The ending was laughable. Everything about this was so unrealistic and ridiculous. A sad attempt at erotic horror/dark romance.
The story is predictable, devastatingly poorly written, filled to the brim with grammatical errors, and is just literally nonstop ramblings. It's awkward to read. Not much worldbuilding or literally any information about anyone or anything besides everything about LINDSEY. I only finished because of the page count. Don't waste your time. 😭
I’m calling it now, Eve is going to be the new IT girl. Mark it on your calendars so you can remind yourself I was right. Do it now. I will wait.
Sarah and Lindsey think a night on the town is just what the doctor ordered. But the roofie is the least of their worries as they wake up in a warehouse where the game is to survive, by any means possible. Secrets are revealed and blood is spilled in this insane debut.
OK. Look. I devoured this book so damn fast. The suspense is top freaking notch, characters perfection, and the plot is so quick you get whiplash because of all the twists and turns (and not just from the maze). Fell ain’t playing with us or holding back and I’m here for anything this woman has in store for us.
As a Top Ten for 2023 (oh, yeah, it’s that flipping good), it’s a no-brainer that’s it’s a HIGHLY RECOMMEND. 10/5.
Dolls opens up with the main characters Sarah and Lindsey wanting to blow off steam and hit the bar after exams are done.
Things soon take a nasty turn and I was thrown into the action quick as the two women are drugged and kidnapped.
Waking up in a vast warehouse, they find they are not alone. Other women and the psychopath who captured them, Cutthroat, introduces them to a nefarious maze that will test their resolve as he hunts them in this maze, which is straight from a psychotics worst nightmares.
This debut novella from Eve hits the right spots for sexual tension, violence and gore. The pacing is perfect and keeps the pages turning as I found out the fate of the Dolls as they try and escape from the madman.
The ending has a twist I did not see coming, and I really enjoyed this story. I’m looking forward to where Eve takes us next!
For such a short Novella it was jam packed! I bought this novella purely because I watched American Horror Stories (the Doll episode) and I thought it might have similarities.
I read this in one sitting and DEVOURED it. It’s not very graphic but the storyline is very fast paced. We have ”dolls” kidnapped, a psychopath, and a deadly maze… come on it’s perfect!
Thank you so much for the novella and the cute stickers!!
Best friends Sarah and Lindsey go out for drinks and wake up in the dark, in a warehouse and they are dressed as dolls. There are also other women in the same predicament. A masked man named Cutthroat tells them they must play by his rules and go through his maze. He tells the women they will all die but if any of them make it to the end, they get a surprise. This book is like The Maze Runner meets Saw. The ending was ridiculous 🙄 The twist was just as ridiculous.
