Ten charming stories about a stuffed toy hamster named Haffertee. Haffeetee is upset - everyone has a place of their own, except him. Howl Owl has his shelf, Frank the Tank has his cupboard, the gerbils have their cage, Diamond Yo has her room. But all he has is Diamond Yo's pillowcase. Hardly a "place of his own". So Diamond Yo builds him a room in his Very Own Box. It has a feather duster bed and a toy table and chair. It's great! Except Haffertee feels quite lonely in it.

The gerbils have a splendid idea. They suggest pictures of all his friends. So Haffertee's Very Own Box is soon decorated with masses of reminders of friends, just in case Haffertee gets lonely.

I loved these books as a kid, when my mom read them to me, and I love them just as much now, as I read them to my kids. It's fun to pass these along to another generation. So many good, simple lessons tied into the cute stories of a little stuffed hamster and the family who loves him.

This is the first book I remember reading, and I think I loved it to death. It was a proper little hardback book, but it fell apart eventually, softened, ragged, bent, and the already colour pictures, coloured-in to varying degrees of success.

I really liked this book! I made a lot of my little stuffed animals "new houses" after this book.
