Geoff Johns originally hails from Detroit, Michigan. He attended Michigan State University, where he earned a degree in Media Arts and Film. He moved to Los Angeles in the late 1990s in search of work within the film industry. Through perseverance, Geoff ended up as the assistant to Richard Donner, working on Conspiracy Theory and Lethal Weapon 4. During that time, he also began his comics career writing Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E. and JSA (co-written with David S. Goyer) for DC Comics. He worked with Richard Donner for four years, leaving the company to pursue writing full-time.

His first comics assignments led to a critically acclaimed five-year run on the The Flash. Since then, he has quickly become one of the most popular and prolific comics writers today, working on such titles including a highly successful re-imagining of Green Lantern, Action Comics (co-written with Richard Donner), Teen Titans, Justice Society of America, Infinite Crisis and the experimental breakout hit series 52 for DC with Grant Morrison, Greg Rucka and Mark Waid. Geoff received the Wizard Fan Award for Breakout Talent of 2002 and Writer of the Year for 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008 as well as the CBG Writer of the Year 2003 thru 2005, 2007 and CBG Best Comic Book Series for JSA 2001 thru 2005. Geoff also developed BLADE: THE SERIES with David S. Goyer, as well as penned the acclaimed “Legion” episode of SMALLVILLE. He also served as staff writer for the fourth season of ROBOT CHICKEN.

Geoff recently became a New York Times Bestselling author with the graphic novel Superman: Brainiac with art by Gary Frank.

This was a wild one!

Okay so here we have a glimpse of their past life as Nighthawk and well his lady love and then how Gentleman Ghost ties into it, team up with the atom and then going against Hath-set and its a cool twist on the villain and we get to see how he is connected to the Hawks and seeing their love together was so awesome and finally the face off, a big story for Kendra and them falling in love again which was so awesome and finally the face off with GG and it really made him one of my fav villains!

It is a really good volume and explores so much about Carter and Kendra's past and present life and a cool spotlight on their enemies and showing their large history in a great and simple way, its a must read for sure!

Reading this Hawkman trade reminded me of a time when Geoff Johns was actually writing original comic stories and not just rehashing Alan Moore's DC work. His Hawkman and Justice Society stories remain a high mark for those titles.

Geoff Johns and James Robinson tell another fine Hawkman tale. While convoluted, the Hawk's past is something that has to be a huge part of the book and I think its done pretty well here. The better part however is Kendra dealing with her immediate past and its more tragic than first believed. The trip to Tibet is a little too corny but the resolution was good. The art by all three artists was top notch. Overall, a decent read that is a little too steeped in head scratching DC history.

This was a pleasant return to the lives of some often neglected characters in the DC Universe. All to often these characters are relegated to minor character status in team books while the superstars such as Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman steal all the glory while these characters get relegated to grunt status and are left to deal with the riff-raff of the villain world.

I really enjoyed following these characters, and the author (Geoff Johns, why am I not surprised?) did a fantastic job of bringing them to life and making them seem human. This book was really well written and I eagerly anticipate tracking down other volumes in the series in the hopes that they exhibit equal quality.

Hawkman has been a favorite character of mine, and I was happy to find this volume. Unlike the fairly miserable New 52 Hawkman, this run seems to get the characters and mood just right. The "doomed-love" relationship of Hawkman & Hawkgirl is played up all while heavily loading the plot with tons of backstory, old school adventure and modern real-world touches. I wasn't crazy about the one issue flashback to the Nighthawk & Cinnamon personas, but it didn't slow things down much. A very fun volume!

I can't believe Johns successfully successfully tied Hawkman into a western comic in a way that didn't seem asinine and crafted a fun and interesting Gentleman Ghost storyline, something I thought was impossible until earlier this week.

I love this version of Hawkman. Can't believe how good it is. The feelings between Carter and Kendra, the adventures in the Himalayas and of course the Wild West adventure with the Hawkes. Very good stories. B

I loved this one. The past lives concept was entralling. This volume was heavier on the action. I am looking forward to the last volume.
