A little apple tree in a forest of oaks begs God for stars like those glimmering on the branches of the great oak trees beside her. As the seasons pass, she learns to appreciate her own gifts and realizes that it's possible to find a star in each of us.
Peninnah Schram, internationally known storyteller, teacher, author, and recording artist, is Professor of Speech and Drama at Stern College of Yeshiva University. She travels across the US and other countries as a featured presenter at storytelling festivals, conferences, and as Performing Artist-in-Residence.
The illustrations are really lovely, and I actually wasn't sure while reading the book what the ending was going to be.
The tree talks to God (who remains ungendered! as does the tree! huzzah!), but otherwise there isn't anything explicitly Jewish about the text (the book is published by a Jewish publishing company).
