Fruit Basket #6

Concord Grape: Unexpected

Rate this book
The last thing Pauly expects during a simple night out is to wind up embroiled in a cab chase. Then again, if something weird happens, it made sense that it would happen to him. He can only count himself lucky that his cab driver is smart, attractive, and seems to like him, even with the drama.

Being involved in a situation that requires police attention isn't something Randy's ever aspired to, but he can't resent it when it's brings Pauly into his life. Pauly's just about perfect, as far as Randy can tell, but that means he's unlikely to be interested in anything more than friendship with a guy like Randy. That's better than nothing, right?

James isn't looking for a relationship. He's not even looking for a 'friends with benefits' arrangement. That's why he finds his obsession with two guys he picks up in a bar so bizarre. He's too busy for love, of course, but becoming friends with the two men somehow leads to wanting things he shouldn't. Even more complicated is the fact that he can't seem to decide which of them he's more interested in -- the stunningly hot Pauly or the more quietly attractive Randy.

All three men have decisions to make, and choices to face, not an easy task. There's no way the three of them could ever build a relationship together… is there?

I like a good m/m/m but this one didn't wow me for some reason. Maybe because so much of the tension with them getting together was due to misunderstandings or just plain ignoring the facts and not communicating. It was still cute and I liked seeing many of the other characters, although some I couldn't remember who they were exactly it's been so long, but it does have a friendship to lovers thing happening rather than insta-love so I can't complain there. For those who love the series probably a must read as the threesome have been around for a long time and many of us were curious how they came to be and it's sweet and cute.

Nice back story on how the guys met and became friends and lovers. Its an interesting romance with a nice build up but I would have liked more romantic time with the new relationship between Pauly, Randy and James. Enjoyable, the guys are funny and cute though another chapter would have been great.

FINALLY the stories of the twinkies three! I love that the "omg wait is this even possible" part of forming a triad got plenty of thought and attention- polyamory is awesome but not simple, especially in the beginning. That said, I wouldn't have minded another few chapter of hot sex ;)

I love how this story starts and ends; framed by a definite HEA. The book seemed rather slow paced to me, and as another reviewer said the characters talked in their head a great deal. For me, personally, I don't like cussing, but that's a pet peeve, and was not used so much as to ruin the enjoyment of the story. There's not a lot of sex in the story. I would have liked to see more of the three together; not just sex but in living together, and more of the start of the new relationship. The book is nice and long, but the three don't really get together until toward the end. There are parts to it, such as the taxi ride in the beginning and them meeting later by chance, that one might say is unrealistic. It didn't bother me. The taxi ride was exciting, and the chance meeting was sexy. Overall, I enjoyed the story. The author did an excellent job of tying up loose ends, telling us where the characters were in their lives, and giving readers a HEA.

I read 5 first books in the series, so I couldn't resist Twinkle-Three story. I liked it. Till now Pauly, Randy and James were kind of cardboard figures for me - happy, flirty and a bit shallow. Their story shows they had they share of angst and uncertainty before ending together.
I secretly hope Pauly brother from the book - Brendon - will turn out gay.
