Life is hard. Really hard for some of us. We suffer, we grow discouraged, we struggle with sin. But when we view our sufferings from the balcony of faith, we rest in the assurance that God never leaves us unloved or uncared for. His hope is a beacon of comfort.
Over these eight lessons, our journey will take us through a section of Scripture titled ''The God of All Comfort,'' in 2 Corinthians 1:3-7. The apostle Paul, the author of that letter and an expert when it came to suffering, lends insight and encouragement that God is not blind to our troubles. Along the way, we will meet faith-filled Christians who relied on faith despite their heartache. Through their stories and God's Word, we will experience the unmistakable handprint of a loving, merciful Savior.
For individuals and small groups, this Bible study offers hope provided by a God who relentlessly pursues us with His ultimate comfort.
Bible study is my passion. Period. God has completely transformed my life through it. Consequently, Artesian Ministries (my 501c3 non-profit ministry) is focused on the expository teaching of God’s Word and practical application of His life-giving truths in our everyday lives.
Whenever God opens the door for me to teach from His Word, I always carry a few extra Bibles with me to give as gifts to those who do not have one.
I have three abiding passions: encouraging dear sisters in Christ, exploring the treasures in Scripture, and traveling the world.
When I’m not speaking, writing, or embarking on a new adventure, I enjoy connecting with you online, snapping copious photos, watching documentaries and home improvement shows, immersing myself in research, and reading faith-based books—as many as I can inhale. I’m a marginal housekeeper, closet chef, and dabbling gardener, but home is always my favorite place to be.
This is a great Bible study. Ms. Pyle asks some thought-provoking questions. The questions she poses are great for small group discussions or to ask yourself in private. I did find a couple of places where there were editing errors. In one place it appeared a part of one sentence was left out and the remaining part was repeated and added into another sentence. Also, some of the places where the reader is suppose to write a scripture is too small to write the entire scripture even using the smallest of handwriting. Those 2 little things do not take away from the content, which is excellent. I recommend this to anyone who desires a closer walk with God.
This is the second Bible study I've read by Donna Pyle, and both have encouraged, uplifted, and inspired me. The God of All Comfort features plenty of Scripture, insightful questions, and promises of God's comfort for Christian women. Whether you're at a good place in life or really struggling, this book can help you strengthen your faith. I highly recommend it!!
I really liked the subject matter of these Bible studies, that God provides comfort for us in every difficult situation. The writing style was sometimes a little pat, and the spaces provided for jotting down Bible verses were often too small, so I'm knocking off one star for formatting and stylistic preferences. But if you're looking for a small-group Bible study that digs into God's promises and how he can use the people around us to provide comfort, not just wave a magic wand and make us feel happy, then this is a really solid choice.
This devotional deals were some difficult topics at times. However, they are dealt with in a very respectful way that allows the reader to focus on the intent of the book.
It had it's good moments but this study didn't hit home for me. Maybe it's because I've been blessed not to be through the life changing situations of losing a home to fire, divorce, having a child deployed in the army, losing a loved one to cancer, struggling with addiction... Maybe it was how we read the book as a group not as it was intended which stretched it out to an eternity. Maybe it was because the stories were written in a way they felt sensationalized like a low budget lifetime TV program.
I found the bible passages plucked from the page without context and I especially struggled with conflicting messages of you're safe in God's armor "his protection is strong and unshakeable" vs the enemy used me (a child of God) and my "marriage as the spiritual battlefield for Jeff's soul."
I also was frustrated with formatting we were asked to write out long bible passages and given 2 lines to write on. In my smallest miniature writing it took 4-6 lines. I gave up filling in most blanks.
I received this book through the GoodReads First Reads program.
This isn't exactly a book, but rather a Bible Study and would be best read in that scenario.
The book is divided into several lessons, each focusing around a different story of hardship that was well-endured. These lessons are further broken down into a day by day study, complete with verses to write out and analyze along with questions relating the stories to your own life. All in all it is very well thought out - the verses are relevant, the questions would work well to lead discussions, and the stories are rather touching.
A lot of good thought was put into this book and I believe it would serve its purpose incredibly well. While I couldn't personally relate to many of the stories within it, I will say that the stories would likely resonate extremely well with many people.
Thank you Donna Pyle - our group enjoyed, laughed, shared a lot between all of us and therefore did not rush but took our time to get what we needed out of the study :)
