I am a wife, mother and national speaker who has authored 17 books, including "When Women Walk Alone," "Drama Free" and my most recent, "12 Ways to Experience More with Your Husband."
Through my speaking across the country, personal discipleship of women, and writing and teaching, I strive to help women find strength for their soul through a more intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. Once they realize He is the Only One who satisfies, life takes a new, exciting twist. We can then take our frustrations and turn them into a deeper desire for God.

I read this book looking for something I can give to women to help them with various hurts in life. I’m fairly picky & I was looking for a clearly Biblical approach, & I found it. The author, Cindi McMenamin doesn't sugar coat the suffering that is often associated with life on earth, she gives a raw realistic version of struggle. She is down to earth in her writing & in touch with the "real world" unlike so many Christian books for women that paint an unrealistic picture of life and how to turn to God for support.
Appendix B: "self assessment: Are You Still Affected by Your Wounds" very good, why? Because most people would say ..no, I don't carry any baggage or hurts from my life events. But that is often untrue, we do carry hurts, & don't even know it. To experience true peace, we must go deeper & get to the heart of the matters in our life.
"Sorrow removes a great deal of a person's shollowness, but it does not always make that person better. Suffering either gives me to myself or it destroys me. You cannot find or receive yourself through success, because you lose your head ovef pride. And you cannot receive yourself through the monotony of your daily life, because you give in to complaining. The only way to find yourself is in the fires of sorrow. Why it should be this way is immaterial. The fact is that it is true in the Scriptures and in human experience." -"One writer"

I liked how open this author was in expressing her personal experiences. I also liked how she points the reader to the Lord for the solution to the problems touched on in this book. The subtitle of the book is “Discovering the Healing and Wholeness God Has For You.” What an excellent way to describe what this book is all about. This is very easy to read and the authors’ loving writing style makes it a perfect non-judgmental book to lead you out of a non-fulfilled life into the life the Lord wants for you!
I gave this book 5/5 stars because I think all women will learn something in this book that will change their lives for the better.
I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.
Cindi McMenamin shares her heart on each page of this book. Her desire is for women to be set free from the bondage of their pasts and to know their identity in Christ.
Each chapter begins with a woman’s tragic story and their redemption.
At the end of each chapter, there is a section entitled, “Let the Healing Continue” where there are practical exercises help to incorporate healing. There are also scriptures to reflect upon and a prayer for healing.
When a Woman Overcomes Life’s Hurts is broken down in three sections:
Part I: Uncovering the Wounds
Part II: Unraveling the Lies
Part III: Unveiling a New Heart
As much as I found this book encouraging, I did have a difficult time reading some of the women’s stories.
At first I thought this was going to be another trite self-help book but as I kept reading, I found some worthy nuggets from the testimonies. I recommend it.
Excellent book for all women, whether going through rough times or have lingering hurts from way back-even if you think you're over it! Do the study whether with a group or alone.
