Brief Summary: This is a book about steps that children can take when it comes to facing their fears. It offers advice for readers in terms of dealing with being afraid of the dark, of monsters, of performing in front of others, and of death. I think that this is a great book for children.
Genre: Self-help, nonfiction
Reading Level: This book is best for students who are fluent readers because there are several paragraphs on each page. There is also figurative language, irregular spelling patterns, and complex sentences.
Topic: advice for children in terms of facing fears
Curriculum Uses: This would be a good book to read aloud if I notice that the kids are having problems with overcoming fears and it is holding them back, or I could use it for a guided reading group based on nonfiction books. It would also be a good book to keep as a reference book in my library.
Literary Elements: This book uses alliteration and metaphors.
Social Issues: bullying, God’s love in a child’s life, death, stress of a child
Illustrations and Text: The illustrations are simple, and concrete. They support the text and help the readers see the situations that are presented to them in the text. I think the readers could relate to the illustrations because they are characters going through facing their fears.
