The Convergence of Race, Ethnicity, and Gender: Multiple Identities in Counseling (4th Edition)

Rate this book
Pre- and in-service counselors get a wealth of authoritative suggestions and practical advice for working effectively with a variety of clients from today's multiculturally diverse world. Through the author's careful examination of convergence--the intersection of race, ethnicity, gender, and other primary identity constructs within the context of counseling--readers see their roles and responsibilities as agents of transformation, while recognizing the way in which dominant cultural beliefs and values furnish and perpetuate clients' feelings in both the therapeutic process and within the larger society.

It wasn't bad for a textbook . . . but it wasn't great either. Lots of good, solid statistics. Nice illustrative case studies. But the writing was dry at best, boring at worst. I usually ended up flipping through pages, errantly skimming, and after awhile didn't even bother to read the assigned chapters. I already knew the material, so I could afford to be negligent. My recommendation to teachers? It's not a bad book, especially for students new to the field of multicultural awareness, but if you can find another textbook with better writing and similar information, don't pick this one (unless students have to pay exorbitant prices).

I cannot believe this ridiculous book is for grad students. It is simply a manual for being extremely politically correct. I found it incredibly one sided. You can be thoughtful and considerate of all ethnicities without hating the fact that your white. This woman, Robinson-Wood, is an idiot!
