The first book, Our Goal and Our Guides, focuses on understanding our goal in life - attaining Heaven - and spiritual and doctrinal issues that are related to that goal (such as the roles of faith and reason, the liturgical year, the Blessed Trinity, the Fall, and Salvation through Christ).
----------------------------------------- This really is a good series on the whole. So much good could be said about it. A few minor quips, like the vast bibliographies which are suggested for further reading -- about 99% of the recommendations come from the 20th century. There's nothing wrong with that per se, but it just seems to be caught up a little in that 20th century American Catholic movement which believed it was the best and which had such huge hopes for saving the world. Self-referential, they might have done well to reach a little farther back into the treasure troves of Catholic Wisdom...
