WARNING - This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable.

Dr. Saint Aknaten is anything but ordinary. From his unique ethnic makeup, the product of a North Korean mother and Egyptian father, to his career as a sex therapist and public speaker, his life is filled with excitement, tragedy, oddities, and lust-filled company. He hails from New York City, but his influence doesn't stop there. Saint is internationally known. Toggling between holistic ideologies and gritty X-rated teachings, he captures male audiences everywhere as he preaches his controversial, racially driven philosophy - that all non-Black men should pursue Black women. Regardless of his magnetic ability to attract droves of women wherever he steps foot, Saint is desperately on the hunt for just one whom he has pet-named his "goddess." His search comes to an unanticipated end as he conducts an interview with the outspoken and beautiful radio personality, Xenia Donnellson, an air-waves sensation from Los Angeles. Making Xenia see things his way becomes a challenge that he is more than willing to accept. Xenia succumbs to the hypnotic charms of Saint's addictive essence, but not without invisible nemeses hanging in the wind, waiting for a chance to strike. Saint will do anything and everything to protect his "queen" including confronting his suppressed fear that he possesses unwanted psychic abilities. Can Saint overcome all and finally obtain the peace he has long sought after? Only time will tell.

I have now created a new sub-genre for this book: Interracial Street Lit Romance. The characters read more like something written by Nikki Turner or Wahida Clark. I have serious issues with street lit as it is and seeing it in an interracial romance novel was just automatic fail.

So what were The Vixenne's issues with The Naughty Sins of a Saint?:

1) The main characters were so over the top ghetto that I had to keep wondering whether I was reading the right book.
2) I don’t want to see the word “nigger”, "nigga" or any other permutations of the spelling in a contemporary interracial romance unless the knuckle-dragging Neanderthal (of any race) using it either comes to a timely demise in the next chapter or by the end of the book has found salvation (or death).
3) Don’t drop secret societies, psychic powers and crazy plots by racial supremacists into the narrative without this being a longer book, with characters I actually liked.
4) If the plot device of ‘love at first sight’ is going to be used, make damn sure it’s believable on the part of both characters.

To be fair, I realize that I am probably not the target market for this particular interracial romance. I prefer smart, savvy heroines who know what they want and make the hero—be he alpha, beta or gamma—work for her love. I like heroines with unusual careers, who are well-traveled, and are comfortable in their own skin. As far as heroes, if he’s an alpha male, he can’t be some controlling man-slut jerk who thinks every woman needs (or wants) rescuing and that his looks and body are acceptable substitutes for being a nice guy. My idea of masculinity is aptly summarized by Patrick Califia, a transgendered man who wrote in his preface to Doing It For Daddy, “the essence of masculinity is the choice to be gentle even when one is stronger than others.” And humor is always a plus!

Chapter one read less like an interracial romance and more like a cheering section for black women as Dr. Saint Aknaten (this name just made me face-palm over and over again, especially for a character of Korean/Middle Eastern descent)—famous sex therapist, psychologist, author and very vocal proponent of non-black men dating/marrying black women exhorts his non-black male audience to seek out, cherish and protect black women or “queens”. Hey, I'm all over that and it's been something I've said for years that black women (and asian men) are the only groups who seem less inclined to date outside the race (for varying reasons). It’s obvious that the author is using the character of Saint to voice the anger and frustrations that many black women feel about black men and the discomfort some may harbor in regards to interracial dating. I also felt The Naughty Sins of a Saint wasn’t written for black women already in interracial relationships and who are quite comfortable and happy. This book felt more like a permission slip from one sister to another as voiced by an alpha male.

Speaking of said alpha male, Saint is so over-the-damn-top alpha that I did more laughing at his “me Tarzan, you Jane, me love you long time” shtick than swooning. Add to his “OMG I’m too sexy for my shirt” persona, his blossoming psychic abilities, sexual prowess and stir well. Worse (for me), he was way too b-boy in a manner that felt cartoonish and a little patronizing. It seemed way too contrived that this guy with the Ph.D. in psychology just happened to have a thing for gangsta rap (fine, so he was from Brooklyn). Not that it’s unlikely in real life, but I just felt as if it were one of those things tossed in to make Saint more “acceptable” to black women; that he was from the “hood” made good. On the other hand, I loved how driven he was about his work, and how he really seemed to care about black women in their totality. Hell, I even found myself cheering at his lavish praise about black women being the mothers of mankind (which we are). Also, a lot of his observations about how to woo a woman were pretty much spot on--and men of ALL races could do with a guy like this giving advice. Unfortunately, Saint was such an uber-controlling asshat, his good points got lost. I didn’t even mind the rawness he displayed in his seminars—after all he was talking to guys—but once off the podium, he could hang up the Tupac wannabe attitude. It was grating and laughable at the same time. And for a man who supposedly "respects" black women, Saint's musical choices left a lot to be desired. Sadly a lot of the gangsta/bling rap is highly misogynistic towards black women.

Speaking of “hood”, Xenia Donnellson was like Wendy Williams, Steve Harvey and Robin Quivers all rolled up into one WTH is this package? She was that annoying “prickly” black woman that makes me wonder just why any man of any race would be interested in someone who cares more about what other folks think rather than her overall happiness. She’s got one of the top radio programs in the nation and landing the infamous and infamously busy Dr. Saint Aknaten on her show is a major coup, save that nothing goes as planned. Sparks fly on air and during commercial breaks as the “pro-black” Xenia is needled and challenged by an unapologetic and blunt Saint, who has amazingly found his soulmate. Ironically it only took one date with Saint before she had her panties off and was turned out by Saint’s oh-so amazing sex skills, described in porn-like detail sans the chicka-bow-wow soundtrack.

After that lots of crazy stuff happens involving the strange bedfellows of black and white supremacists who are pissed off at Saint for encouraging black women and white men to get together, Xenia’s mother Pam who was so “hood” that I cringed at how she behaved upon meeting her new son-in-law, the discovery of Saint’s mysterious birthright (which he doesn’t feel too inclined to share with the woman he claims to love), and a high-powered group of non-black men who are married to black women of varying hues. Oh, and let me not forget Saint's dictatorial attitude concerning birth control and tampons (both of which he never explains to Xenia but who does what she's told without an "excuse me?").

Of course there's always the standard BBFF--Black Best Friend Forever--who's upset/jealous/hating the fact that said friend is married to a handsome and wealthy hunk and wants to start some hate and discontent. Why do so many female authors commit this kind of genderfail I have no idea. This time the BBFF decides the best offense is pointing out that Xenia has not only hooked up with "the enemy", but with a man whose exploits in the bedroom ended up as fodder for a tell-all book by an ex-lover.

Normally I’m somewhat forgiving when it comes to misspelled words and/or grammar, but seeing the word “lie” in lieu of “laid” or “laying”, and spelling “the crypts” for the gang “the crips”, was a little much.

The only reason I gave this book two stars was that Xenia was described as a regular woman—she had a bit of a pouch (as many real woman do), and even a bit of cellulite, but Saint (bless him), loves her and desires her and makes it a point to see his woman happy and well-provided for. She's got her real hair, which is naturally springy and curly (and which Saint happily celebrates). No long flowing tresses for her.

Reads like an ad nauseum sermon against every black man who ever dogged us while expecting our undying devotion. Technically- I COULD dig that, but at some point you have to climb down off the soapbox and tell me a story that is more than an all caps "FUCK YOU" to everyone who naysays IR relationships and black women in general. Literally this book is one long diatribe of angry black woman wish fulfillment. Sure, we are all "queens" and absolutely society is chock full of white men who want to get with us but are afraid to approach, afraid of us period, afraid of backlash, their mama's reaction...WHATEVER. I agree with all that. But honestly? A man touring the country force feeding an agenda of "All men need a black woman and this is how you get one." is just ridonklus.

A character like this COULD have been drawn in a way that was hot, but the author pushed it WAY too damn far. I mean, I'm down as hell to read about an alpha who unapologetically loves black women. But this mess was just insanity. The endless, all knowing, expert sermon from this guy just came off as creepy as hell and left me cold. Add to it wherever she's trying to go with whatever he is beyond human and it was just too damn much.

Oh and the gratuitous product name dropping is SO Dmitry's Closet. And y'all know how I felt about THAT shit. Reminds me of what my mama taught us. The quickest way to convince people that you aren't used to having shit is to constantly tell them what you do.

Ultimately, I think she would have been better mailing this in letter form to the Sotomayer's of the world. Some of his youtube vids need the entire first chapter of this book posted as a response. But this aint no love story.

2 stars. One for the fact that Laveen latched on to the crux of what could have been a great trope. The other just because dude on the cover is hot as fish grease. And I WILL credit the author with one of the BEST lines I have ever read about white men being drawn to black women. I'm paraphrasing here, but "Its about connecting to that from which you came. You're just homesick." Baaahaha! Whew! That ALONE deserves to be passed along.

Have you ever fallen in love with the hero, to the point where you cease to loose touch with the fact that hes not a real person...No? Just me? Well, if you've never you may with Saint. I fell head over heels in love with this character and I even liked his heroine. I loved this man so much I felt like I was cheating on my husband! I stopped taking his phone calls, or answering his texts becuase I was so caught up in this story.

I wont give away the story, because you really, really need to read it. Then you need to have your significant other read it. If you're in a book club this needs to be your book for the month, it was that good! What I will tell you is that the romance is sweet, but the message to women and their men is even more profound. And Saint! Lord, he is what EVERY man should be to his woman!

Great job Ms. Laveen! You are at the top of my authors to read list!

I loved this book. It mixes interracial situations and philosophies with a hero alpha man that has paranormal abilities. This is a first I'd say and this writer pulled it off. I'm new to her work and enjoy it. I read the Slave Master's Son and liked it and I don't really read paranormal romance books but made an exception and that was a good choice. The heroine and the hero are well developed characters. There is a good mix of humor in this book to. I have read this book twice and plan to read it again before the end of the summer. I enjoyed it just that much. The hero's language was graphic so if that sort of thing trips you up then be aware of that but it fit his character nicely. This author describes things in a manner that makes you feel like you are there with the characters.

WOW, loved the messages in this book about interracial relationships, and loving a women of color. This was a very good book and a recommended read for anyone in an interracial relationship. Also for those black men, who have not so nice things to say about women of color dating outside their race. I just loved this book. . .. . .I want more.

The last time I read this book, I was pissed. Personally, I hated the fact that I had to pay 7 frickin dollars & 99 frackin centavos for this book...

Although some of the dialog was a little contrived, I enjoyed the book on the 2nd go round.. The sex was explosive and highly charged, (btw, where is this man when you need him? lol!)

Other than that it's a good book, but I'm still somewhat hesitant on saying that the price is right..

Tell you what.. Get a Nook or Kindle sample, and you decide...

Giving this one 3.75 stars...

When I finished this story on last night @ 10:30pm, I was left feeling conflicted. On one hand this story had moments of brillance, but on the other hand, it reminded me of an overdone Urban Street novel that relied too heavily on the Graphic Language and Sex scenes.

I liked the Paranormal aspect of it, and being a huge fan of Interracial Romances, I was really excited about that aspect of it as well..

But personally, I felt as if there was a certain level of corniness involved when it came to Saint's diatribes about Black men not deserving Black women & that Men of different races should persue Black Woman. Also, the way that Saint refers to his love interest as his "Queen" just grated on my last nerves, making me want to chuck my Nook across the room in frustration.

Personally, I don't see anyhing wrong with requiring excellence of writers who primarily write Interracial & Multi-ethnic Romances, especially when those writers require that you pay $7.99 for their work. For $7.99, I want to be captivated for 4 hours straight. For $7.99, I want to read about well developed characters who reside in a well-developed storyline. And last, but not least, for $7.99, I want to be entertained, even better than Xenia was by Saint the first time they got down to business. I want to walk away amazed that I actually had the good fortune to find and devour the book.

I'm not saying that this isn't a worthwhile read, but I really do feel that it could have been better.

Giving this one 3 1/2 stars

Ms Laveen has brilliantly written a book that will trample and shatter negative stereotypes and the angst on preferences in who we choose to love. In this case black women. In the character Dr.Saint Aknaten we are introduced to a charismatic, sexy, hero that has chosen to quantify, qualify and justify his preference without any apology. In the character Xenia we find a strong, sexy, heroine who is still holding fast to her dream that love can only be obtained one way.

This read had so many layers. I loved the dialogue it was rich, smart, witty and thought provoking. Clearly, Ms Laveen took us to class in this read. The how? why? what? when? and where? of being a man in a relationship was like BAM!,in your face. The secondary characters were just as enagaging and are worthy of a tell all too. Without question I felt a level of envy towards Xenia and Saints loving relationship because here was a man...who gets it. I loved the sex scenes which were written to show a man whose prowess, while legendary, was focus in the claiming of his mate, erotic, without being overt. The paranormal twist enriched the story and made me love Saint even more and his handling of Xenia's mother...LMAO!!

All in all, for me as a lover of the I/R genre, this book was on another level. While the subject matter is more I/R in the telling. It raises the awareness why all men need to step up their game in understanding what it takes to be a man to your woman. Ms. Laveen did her homework well.

I maybe in the minority but this book was just ok. With reviews I was expecting much more. I cared for neither the hero or herione. I didn't buy the idea of the secret societies. I had to push myself through this book. I even stop and read other books in between. I have no desire to proceed further in the series.

In love with SAINT

What can I say this man is beautiful both inside and out. His core values up lifts his QUEEN at all times. When she is threatened all hell breaks loose. I loved this story. Men could take a page or two out of his book on how to treat a women. I highly recommend this book or should I say manual.

I really enjoyed this book Saint is a beast in more ways than one.His speeches in this book about black women needing to expand their romantic horizons is the truth. I loved it while I was reading this book I had a lot of I that's right moments. The love scenes were hot as hell I have never read anything like them ever. I really liked Xenia and Saints first interview they had sparks were flying off the page I knew they were going to burn up the sheets when they got together and did just that. This is a really good book you will not be disappointed.

This is my first time reading anything by this writer and I so enjoyed this novel. Saint puts the A in alpha male. He is madly in love with Xenia and the things he says about black women made me feel ten feet tall. I highly recommend this book if you enjoy a little paranormal mixed in with your IR romance. I'm still blushing.

Saint!! Hallelujah!! This brother was so down for the cause of ensuring black women were loved by someone worthy of their love, he was willing to risk his life. But any man who can handle his business on the job and come home to do the same to the point of making you black out, gets an A+ for Alpha Male ;0. The secret society, White Knights of the Round Table, was so intriguing that I had to Google it! I’m not too sure how I feel about some of the information he was giving out at his conferences concerning black men. I know he’s just a fictional character, but I wish he would have shared his teachings with black men. This could have killed two birds with the same stone, as my grandmother use to say. This would have helped support “Black Love” in the African-American communities and promoted interracial dating as well.

Definitely different from your run of the mill romance and for sure the smuttiest book I've ever read, and I've read many (admitted quietly with fake look of shame). Saint is like no other alpha male character I've read, take a read, see for yourself! Although I did get a little tired of the lecturing parts, kinda lengthy.

Naughty Sex Diminished The Story!

This is only the second book that I've read by this author. The other book had a more developed plot and not as much erotic sex. I think this book has a really good plot but everything was overwhelmed by the erotic sex. I'm all for steamy sex that adds to a story, but this was borderline pornographic. The plot and excellent storytelling by the author saved it from being pure porn. I don't mind sex between two lovers. Saint's explanation of sex for the attendees at the conferences was too explicit and detailed for me and didn't add much to the book. There was quite a bit of backstory for Saint which was fascinating. However, there was very little about Xenia. That would have added to the story. I still would like to know more about Xenia's history. Less time given to the overly descriptive sex and more given to Xenia's backstory would have made for a more enjoyable read. I'd love to read more of their story but not if it contains as much graphic sex. Yes, I know Ms. Laveen writes erotic romances and the book carried a warning, still this was over the top especially when compared to her other book that I read, A Fight Within. I look forward to reading more books by Ms. Lauren but will pay more attention to reviews. Hopefully, they will be more like A Fight Within. For those who are not put off by very erotic sex, this would be a good book for you.

Omg! I need a Saint!

This was one of the most incredible interracial love stories I ever read. It was filled with well researched facts about interracial relationships and sex delivered by Dr Saint. I was so taken in with Dr. Saint and his mission to spread the knowledge of the black goddess and his love for Xenia, his magical powers were a side occurrence for me. I love the gift he had, but his presence and his ability to speak so powerfully on the topic of interracial relationships, not letting any one disrespect him or his cause was absolute 🔥🔥🔥 off the page! Dr. Saint was everything you could want from an alpha male and then some. Those sex scenes were breathtakingly hot🔥🔥🔥. The story was amazing, and I was captivated the entire time. I'm moving to book two and the rest of the series. I want to stay in the world of Dr. Saint a little longer. Tiana Laveen, you're 🔥🔥🔥. I will be reading book one again. I really really loved it!💜

Wow!

I don’t know what took me so long to read this book but I can kick myself! I’m hooked. Addicted! I wish there was an advocate like Saint in this world. God knows we need one. This book is spot on regarding black women, black men and interracial relationships and taboos. I always thought it unfair for black men to call black women who dated outside their race sellouts yet openly date white women and other non black women. Why is it acceptable for the brothas and not us? This book explores these topics, sex and spirituality. And I love that Saint has a supernatural gift, which makes this book even more interesting and provocative. Will be reading the entire series. Highly recommend!

Wow!

This book hooked me from the first line! Saint was so three-dimensional to me I felt like I was being wrapped up in his aura. This story is not excessively long but it was so intense at times that I would stop reading for a few hours just to compose myself. I was intrigued and uncomfortable at the same time. The comments about the black female resonated with me and gave me food for thought as a mature black woman. The comments on black men and interracial relationships were also thought provoking. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and plan to purchase the rest of the series! I must say that Tiana is one of my favourite authors at the moment!

Good book

I liked it,the ending was kinda abrupt. There were lots of questions are left unanswered,I'm glad that this is a series so that somethings get resolved.I think I get his philosophy about black women, black men,and non black men but it got real peachy reading about his lectures. Hopefully the follow up books in the series don't continue that. It was helpful in getting to know Saint but it was a bit much.

I have had this book in my library for years and read it a few times! I just had to revisit it as Saint is one of my most favored characters! The love between him and Zena was awe inspiring and I was upset when their saga ended! I hope that Ms. Laveen will write another tale about them in the near future! Thanks, MS. Laveen for an awesome read!

ridiculous waste of money

This was the longest read of my life. Tiana Lavern has always been one of my favourite authors but from start to finish this book sucked. Not sure what genre it’s meant to be IR romance? Thriller? Sci-fi? Just made no sense. I purchased the series so praying all the other books don’t disappoint
