When the Glass Slipper Doesn't Fit

Claire Cloninger and Karla Worley speak with warmth and honesty to women living in the everyday world. Filled with advice on accepting our bodies (stretch marks and all), finding fulfillment in life's chores (from laundry to boardroom presentations), and loving our husbands (though they didn't come from the same gene pool as Prince Charming), this is a woman's guide to celebrating the journey we call womanhood.

3 stars because I’m not sorry I read this, but only because I like to hear stories about the lives of other women. It’s just too bad that these women only credit God for their strengths and only themselves for their weaknesses.

I first read this book in 1995 after recovering from a nasty bout of asthma which placed me in the hospital. I re-read the book in 2005 because I needed inspiration. It is a book written by two women, one older, one younger-both of whom had very personal and insightful anecdotes about life and how they overcame the obstacles in their paths. The first line of the book started out with the younger female author stating she spent most of the year throwing up due to her pregnancy. Most would find that nauseating, but it spoke volumes to me personally; as if I would relate (and did). At the time I saw where I had been, where I could be headed, and where I did not want to end up being. These ladies speak to you, not at you-which for me was needed, and entertaining.

I picked up this book on the 25 cent shelf at the used book store at our library. It was one of those books where I read a chapter here and there, and although there was some insight and the authors' antidotes were entertaining for the most part, I would not say my life was changed one bit by this book. In fact, I don't like how the authors almost tell the reader to "settle" for what you have, and don't expect anything more. I will pass this book along, but I would not recommend buying it.

Excellent book --so far. More of a study. My writer's group is studying this book together. I like it because the author's both are my age and seem to identify so well with me and the feelings I have. I am enjoying the study and the interactivity of the book.
