When Kerrin Graham, a retired cop and now an investigative journalist with the Washington Post, receives a call in the middle of the night, his life is about to be turned upside down.

Six of the world's leading geneticists have all 'committed suicide' in the past seven days, his brother-in-law being the latest to die. Establishing that those who died were all employees of the Gen8tyx Company, a secretive research company based in Orlando, Kerrin sets out to discover the truth behind their deaths.

Discovering that those who died were killed to stop them unveiling the results of their revolutionary stem-cell research, a discovery that could usher in a new age of hope and health for all humanity, Kerrin vows to find who was responsible for their deaths and to uncover the powerful secret they were killed to protect.

On a trail that takes him around the world and back, Kerrin uncovers a sinister organisation that will stop at nothing to protect the secret behind the mysterious 'Orlando Treatment'.

When those around him start to die, and his wife disappears, it becomes a race against time to find the missing 'Orlando File', the only hope of saving his crippled wife and proving to an unsuspecting world, the truth behind the sinister Chymera Corporation of America.

And yet, when Kerrin eventually understands just what the Orlando File contains, he is faced with a choice no man should ever have to make, and everyone who reads this book must ask the same question:
"What would I do, if I were him?"

Ian Irvine was brought up in Scotland, and studied Physics for far too many years, before travelling the world working for high-technology companies. Ian has spent a career helping build the internet and delivering its benefits to users throughout the world,...as well as helping to bring up a family. Ian enjoys writing, painting and composing in his spare time. His particular joy is found in taking scientific fact and creating a thrilling story around it in such a way that readers learn science whilst enjoying the thrill of the ride. It is Ian's hope that everyone who reads an I.C.P.Irvine novel will come away learning something interesting that they would never otherwise have found an interest in. Never Science fiction. Always science fact. With a twist.

The first of Ian's novels is a Genetic Conspiracy Thriller which explores the world of Stem Cell Research and encourages us all to ask some very searching questions about the advances that science is making, and how much we, or others, should let it affect society. A contemporary adventure, "The Orlando File" takes the reader around the world and back, and creates a unique moral dilemma that the reader cannot help but get embroiled in: at the end, the reader must ask themself, what would they do in that situation?

His second novel "The Crown of Thorns" explores the power of genetics, explores the questions that the potential to clone humans will raise, and asks the ultimate question...what would happen if a scientist found a way to clone Jesus Christ?

Ian's third novel "London 2012 : What If?" departs from the world of genetics and explores an interesting possibility that Quantum Physics raises:the possibility for parallel worlds to exist alongside each other...and what would happen if a man who wondered what other types of lives he could be living had he made other choices, where unexpectedly to step from one world into another parallel world. "What If" is also an interesting voyage through human emotions, and many readers will find themselves asking themselves similar questions that the lead character does as they read the book. As with both "The Crown of Thorns" and "The Orlando File", at the end of the book the reader is left thinking...and different readers may take away different views on how the novels did, or should have ended... It is hoped that in this way, the novels will make themselves ideal subjects for reading clubs or book clubs.

Ian hopes that if you honour him by spending the time reading one his novels, that you will find it a positive experience, and enjoy it. He also invites you to email him and let him know if you did or did not enjoy the novel. And if you did, what were your favourite parts?

Happy Reading!

I read both Book 1 and 2, and would have given this a 5 star rating, except it needs to be cleaned up a bit as to extra words or missing words in the text. This didn't happen often, but enough that it was noticable. As for the story, it caught me right at the start, and I couldn't put it down. An added plus is that Irvine explains scientifically how to stay young and live an extra 20 years! This is a terrific read!

This was a gripping suspense-filled thriller and I read the remaining 92% of the novel in 2 days. It was an original concept and an enjoyable read!

Pros
1. Characters were well developed and interesting
2. Numerous plot twists, both for the reader and the main character, Kerrin
3. The story often changed perspective from character to character, without giving too much of the story away to the reader
4. Once I got past the brief lulls in the first half, I found the second half a lot faster paced and gripping

Cons
1. The pace of the book was a bit slow in places, and personally I found it hard to remain concentrated and engaged but this was just the author building suspense but for me it was a bit too drawn out
2. Was left a little confused with the epilogue.. not sure if I actually assumed the correct conclusion or what
3. The business conversations etc were a bit too long for my interest and I found I was skipping bits to just get more of the overall story read

Despite the personal drawbacks of the book, overall for what it suggested it was, it delivered. It's a captivating (for the most part) page-turner and a drama-filled thriller, that doesn't disappoint

I really liked the story itself but the mispellings were a bit irritating to see. I'm not talking about the difference in UK and our type spellings of certain words but there were lot of regular spelling mistakes (like dialing was spelled dialling) and a few words were the incorrect one to use. Excellent story, just needs a major edit to make it an excellent book!

'Remarkable' is the least I can say

6 scientists commit suicide, out of which one is a brother-in-law of Kerrin Graham, a crime investigation journalist and an ex-cop. As Kerrin starts to dig around the reasons for the suicides, hell breaks loose as Kerrin is racing against time to save his wife and loved ones. With absolutely no idea as to why is it happening the way it is happening, Kerrin possesses the power to destroy the most powerful powerhouse of America.
Will he succeed?
Read this remarkable novel.

The Orlando File books 1 and 2 by Ian C.P.Irvine

Mr Irvine is a relatively recent discovery for me, and I have loved every book I've read so far. They are all unique, exciting and beautifully written. This is a great book but I have to say not my favourite one so far. It is a medical mystery and the adventure is fast paced. Its definitely worth reading but I don't give it 5 stars which I'm beginning to expect from his books. This is a 4 stars from me!

Is it all fact or fiction?

This is the third book I have read by this author. All three have plots and storylines that are unusual and thought-provoking. This book is really a page turner, I found myself quite often wondering if this is based on real life. The characters are well described and the only drawback to this story is that I saw the end coming, in a predictable manner.

There are TWO major issues in this novel, both bearing some discussion.

(1) The problem of US clandestine agencies' all-encompassing surveillance creating the possibility of its subversion by hidden power groups, and

(2) Limiting access to life-prolonging and enhancing measures to only the power elites.

I can't figure out how this was written *before* the recent NSA eavesdropping revelations. But it pretty much follows what we've been told. CREEPY! And the what-if nature of the characters' inability to either stay safe, or to publicize their findings through the papers (and why not the internet?) is also suffocating to imagine.

This may have been written over the space of a few years. It needs updating in many places. Even as it's updated, there may be more cultural changes. But at least that way it'll be all one piece. No iphones? No tablets?

I'd like to see this be a movie so we can discuss the issues.

I did enjoy this - it was well written, without too much technical information thrown in (layman, here!). It was a case of the lone underdog battling against the resources of the American corporate world, and up until that point, I was drawn into the story and really enjoyed it.
Unfortunately, I have only given this three stars, as I did feel that there was a bit of a cop out ending (I'm not going to go into details here, so no worries about spoilers). I loved the way that Kerrin, the hero, tied the hands of the corporate bad guys, and perhaps it would have been better without the epilogue, leaving the ending as a will they, won't they moment.

This is the second of Ian CP Irvine's books that I've read, and I will probably read more of his, but I did feel that this, like "Haunted from Within", left me slightly dissatisfied at the ending - but it is definitely worth a read.

scary good read

This was so interesting and I could hardly put it down. I could imagine really happening. The author pulls i motions out of the reader and they end up caring about the fate of the charters in this book. This is the first time I have read something by this author, but will read more in the future. This has thriller, intrigue, and mystery. I recommend you give this book a try.

The first book was a great read and was enticing enough to make me buy the second book. It took me a couple of weeks to read the first book, but the second book was gripping and meant that I couldn't put it down so read it in just a few days!

I really liked the concept of this story. However, the way it was written, it was difficult to engage me properly.

It is a very fast action book. Lots of twists. This is the conspiracy genre in very high places. The book is touching the following: Police. FBI. CIA. Newspaper, Journalists. Genetic industry. All in one exiting thriller.I liked the main character in the book which was very much down to earth type, and not the super hero you find in many other books., and I intend to check for more books by Ian C.P. Irvine .
I like reading a book in bed since it often speed up the moment I go to sleep. This book stole away my sleep
