Olympia Brown Mystery #3

A Despicable Mission

Olympia Brown is the summer minister on the picture book island of Martha’s Vineyard. Within days of her arrival she discovers that a confidence scam targeting the elderly is suspected to be operating in her own congregation. Much to the consternation of colleague and best friend, Father Jim, and Frederick, her English gentleman, Olympia puts her own life in grave danger when she tries to intervene on behalf of one of her beloved parishioners.

Sparks fly, tempers flare, and Olympia finds herself on the wrong side of a loaded gun. Mission Mystery fans will not be disappointed in Olympia's latest unholy entanglements.

Love these books

...and the different settings for each. Who would not enjoy a Unitarian Universalist minister who'd best friend is a Catholic priest? Throw in the steadfast Britisher who would like his status to change from live in lover to living husband, and we have a winner. We have rescued students from cults and domestic abuse and solved crimes against the elderly and saved a life of two. There are many more problems for Rev. Olympia Brown to solve and I will be right there as an observer.

The third in the series, Judith Campbell continues to entertain and engage the reader in the characters of the Reverend (just call me Olympia) Brown, her English lover Frederick, and her best friend, Father Jim. While I'm not sure that the author creates the best plots--this one is made quite obvious from the start--she sets the story quite well and describes characters that are just fun and enjoyable. Particularly interesting is the parallel story of the "ghost" in her house that unfolds through excerpts in her journal.
