Original and touching. Rarely do children's picture books address helping a grandparent with dementia--at least not in a competent and sensitive way. I wasn't a huge fan of the illustration style; the red rings on the characters' cheeks were a bit jarring.

Veg*n parents note: Whole fish and a chicken are cooked.

I gave this book 5 stars because rather than dealing with a child with an exceptionality, it's dealing with an elder that has one. I thought it was super relatable to children who have grandparents. This is also getting five stars because I think it will help children understand certain diseases.

This book follows 7 year old Oscar as he tries to help is Grandpa who has a disease that makes him forget more and more things everyday and do things that are not normal. Rather than being scared, Oscar tries to make scrapbooks and notes to remind his Grandpa Monty understand and remember things that he is forgetting. This book is a great representation of how a child would act, and can help those that are going through similar situations. The illustrations in this book are amazing, and almost remind me of Tim Burton looking characters. They are detailed, and the colors are vibrant. The author also does a great job of capturing a childlike innocence in the face of real world problems.

Es un libro estupendo para explicar los fenómenos naturales a los más pequeños de una manera mágica para que disfruten. Las ilustraciones son mágicas.

Read it to my class and they did not enjoy it. The Spanish was difficult to understand for my students, for example words like "veis" and "haceis" which they are not used to. Plus not a single student liked the illustrations. A couple of students did relate it to their grandparents and how they don't remember things. They did find it a little funny but overall they did not like the book.

Translated from Spanish.

Lengthy read about a grandfather starting to lose his memory (Alzheimer's?), and his grandson who tries to help him remember even the little things (words for items around the house, names of family members, not putting raw chickens in the washing machine). Sad subject matter, but told with a touch of humor and sincerity.

the red cheeks are creepy. the book in and of itself and the rest of the illustrations are cool. totally in Spanish. good for kids going through rough times with their grandparents who are forgetting or suffering dementia or what not.

Bookaday #106. Goony, almost scary illustrations mar the message of family taking care of family in this book. Spain Spanish doesn't help either. Not going to order for library.

Read for 5427 class

A good picture book to help young readers whose older friends and family members have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's.
