I love a man in uniform. Doesn’t matter what branch of our armed services, a hero like Kiptyn Llowell keeps me reading well into the night. Add an intelligent and witty heroine like DeAnne Lovejoy, it’s early morning hours before I’m forced to turn the light out. And then they’re rolling through my head, and I’m left wondering what in the heck is going to happen next, I can’t wait to get back to all the goings-on in their world.

DeAnne works as an officer with the U.S. Department of State in China, helping out American citizens when needed. On an outing DeAnne is approached by a U.S. Marine who needs immediate aid. Willing to do whatever necessary, it’s really too late to do much good but go with the flow, and then all hell breaks loose and they end up on the run, finally staging their deaths in a ball of fire.

Having volunteered for a solitary mission to continue proving he’s good at his job, Kip knows something is wrong when suddenly he’s being chased through China, accused of being a spy. Trying to get DeAnne back to safety isn’t going well, especially when she’s sure her boss will pull some strings to get Kip out of the country. That plan is shot down very quickly, and DeAnne quits her job before the boss can even finish his explanation for refusing her request.

This is one of those electric moments between people meeting for the first time, but they have no time to sit back and take stock. It’s the adrenaline, the action, the trust that brings these two closer together as their adventure gets more dangerous. Though DeAnne’s specialty is diffusing situations with words, she holds her own when needed in her now blown-up world.

Enter the STORM Corps, an elite team that’s been assigned the mission Kip thought he’d been given. This is when Kip begins to rethink what he wants in his life. Very slowly you can see him change course – a sexy, beautiful woman; the hope of a new job that will give him the satisfaction and adrenaline rush he’s come to expect; a new beginning with a family he hasn’t seen in years? But before any of that can happen, they have to get through their mission, and when it begins to go downhill, things become intense and suspenseful. I love the scenes in the submarine, especially when the crew is playing with a Japanese sub when they need to be setting up for a tricky rescue.

On the side we get a look at STORM’s Bobby Lee and Darcy and their current relationship, which I enjoyed quite a bit. I’m hoping they’re in a future book, because the way it’s left for them at the end here? Good lord, it’s going to be anxious city waiting to find out what eventually happens. There are a couple of other loose ends left dangling also. I’m sure some readers won’t like that, but I don’t mind it if it keeps me glued to the page just like everything in this story.

I’m happy with the action, the suspense, the interactions of the characters, and the fast and sensual love and romance between Kip and DeAnna. And that cover. There can’t be a romance reader out there who wouldn’t pick this book up just for a better, longer look! But definitely open it and start reading. An action-packed ride from beginning to end.

Back Cover Copy:

Dashing and devilish Major Kiptyn Llowell is the opposite of reasonable. But when his top secret espionage mission in the remote highlands of Hainan Island, China, goes belly up, Kip throws himself on the mercy of the eminently sensible (and irresistibly sexy) DeAnne Lovejoy to hitch a ride to his extraction point. But he gets just a little more than he bargained for with this beautiful spitfire.

As a member of the U.S Department of State, it’s DeAnne’s job to help American citizens in need of aid on foreign soil. Although it’s Kip who’s being hunted by every cop and soldier in China, when DeAnne sets her eyes on his impressive body, she’s the one who needs rescuing—from her own highly improper thoughts!

But before either of them gets the chance to flirt, an enemy platoon storms in, guns blazing. Covers blown and running for their lives, Kip and DeAnne decide to throw caution to the wind and complete his mission together. Amidst escalating feelings, they just hope they survive long enough to enjoy their wild ride to a loving future…

3 1/2 Stars !!!

While not my favorite Nina Bruhns book to date, still a solid entry in her repertoire. A hot Marine, a sexy US Department of State officer thrown together under the worst circumstances and, of course, witty banter and hot sex occurs! There is a bit of a cliffhanger which ensures another book in the series to look forward to. Somehow though, I missed the first two in this series so now must go back and catch up on what I've missed out on so far.

Bottomline: Excellent read but there is a cliff hanger ending. :-/

I read this series after the STORM Corps books and loved all of them! Really fun adventure rides, very steamy love stories, unique settings, complex characters...these books have it all. I especially love how if you read them in order you get to see your couples over and over as their relationships develop & you get updates on couples in later books. So much fun!

My one drawback is this book ends with a cliffhanger for one of the couples. And its a big one. As far as I can tell the author isn't continuing. Her blog, website and social media accounts are all down or outdated. Feels really unlikely I'll ever get a conclusion for the cliffhanger. That makes me a little crazy. After 6 books I'm invested in these characters. However, I did love them all...right up to the end of this one, the last in the series.

Quick & Dirty: Major Kip Llowell is on a secret mission when his cover is blown. With the Aid of DeAnne Lovejoy they may just make it out of China alive, but will there relationship survive both of their pasts?

Opening Sentence: It would be a woman.

The Review:

This was a good book. I wasn’t sure if I would like it or not because I do not read military style books usually, not even romances. I am glad I read this one though. Major Kip Llowell is on a secret mission on the Hainan Island in China when his cover is blown. While trying to figure out how he is going to get out of China without getting arrested for being a spy he runs into DeAnne Lovejoy. DeAnne is an officer of the U.S. Department of State and as such is sworn to help American citizens stuck in bad situations in foreign countries. Right away sparks start flying between these to, but unfortunately they both have things they must deal with from their pasts before a relationship would work. Their immediate need is to get out of China alive and without getting arrested.

I really liked both Kip and DeAnne but I did think their relationship developed really fast. I guess though in life or death situations you appreciate that you have to enjoy what you have while you have it. I really loved watching DeAnne grow as a character. As I was reading the story DeAnne starts out as a woman who thinks all Marine men are the same and will only use and hurt you before they leave you. Because of this she refuses to touch a gun and only fights with words. As she gets drawn deeper into Kip’s world she realizes not all Marines are the same and starts to loosen up. On top of all that she is so brave. She and Kip are stranded on an island where people want to capture and hurt them and instead of breaking down and losing it, she is strong and brave even when she is terrified, which is the definition of being brave. I liked Kip but I didn’t think he really changed much. He did decide that he would do anything to be with DeAnne even if it meant facing his family and his past.

One of the things I liked about this book was that there were actually two romances discussed in the story, not just one. The first and main romance is of course Kip and DeAnne’s romance. The second romance is between STORM members Darcy Zimmerman and Bobby Lee Quinn. This couple also had problems but not as many. Actually the problems were mostly one sided. Bobby Lee Quinn or Quinn to his friends would marry Darcy whenever she was ready if only she would let go of her fears. An orphan who was given up by her foster family once they had their own children feels that if she marries Quinn he will one day replace her with “a newer model”. They are sweet together and you can tell from the way they interact that they are madly in love with each other.

I really loved this story. Nina Bruhns has a way with drawing the reader right into the story. I read this book in two days. I just wanted to get to the end and make sure everyone got out ok and see what happened with our two couples. The only problem I had with this book was the cliffhanger at the end. I hate finishing a book and not knowing exactly how everything is going to go. Now I have to find the next book that tells me what happens. I recommend this book to those who like a good romantic suspense story.

Notable Scene:

He strode to the shattered back window, lit a match, aimed and tossed it into the vehicle, and gave the SUV a solid push when he saw where the match had landed. The SUV started rolling toward the edge of the cliff.

DeAnne’s jaw dropped in astonishment and she jumped back. “What on earth are you doing?”

He gave it another two-handed shove so it gained momentum. “Killing myself.”

US Marine Corps Intelligence Operator Major Kiptyn Llowell: rich heir – who hasn’t talked with his father/family in 10 years when they did not support his desire to be a photographer (and not be in the family business of making money)… he joined the marines, he is a photographer, he volunteers to infiltrate China to take pictures of a new AUV (autonomous unmanned underwater vehicle) – in part to use his photography and in part to show he’s not too old to carryout a field assignment…unknown to him, he is a decoy to allow a team to capture an actual AUV.

Deputy Director DeAnne Lovejoy of the US State Department: up and comer in the state department… her baggage is an absent Navy officer father who cheated on her mother and more or less abandoned her… she does not want to get involved with a Marine.

STORM Corp
Which includes the core team, Darcy Zimmerman engaged to friendly Bobby Lee Quinn… and added in a defecting Russian sub pilot and his CIA fiancé (last book?) … and a retired naval officer/sonar expert – and DeAnne’s friend:

Kip’s assignment isn’t going too well… he lands badly breaking the camera lens… the Chinese seem to know he is there... he commandeers DeAnne and her car, just as the Chinese come to the village she is at (escorting someone)… and they make a run for it… ultimately crashing / blowing up the car so the Chinese think he (and she is dead – she refuses to turn herself in, instead to accompany him)… they play hide and seek until they can get ahold of his team and her boss… and then when his boss tells her to leave him to his own devices, she quits… their attraction gets the best of them under the stars… and though he doesn’t want to think about a relationship and what that might mean to his future, he doesn’t want to give her up… and she won’t ask for a commitment he isn’t willing to voluntarily give, but he can see it in her eyes, and she doesn’t want to get in any deeper…

But STORM ‘kidnaps’ them - to get him onto a boat in international waters… and he joins their team to rescue the Russian who was planting a flashdrive to feed them info… and half the team rescues the Russian, half the team retrieves the AUV on a test run, substituting another – and then after taking it apart and photo’ing all parts, they put it back together and return it to the test, the Chinese never the wiser… and DeAnne joins the rescue team who have the Russian, but have injuries and can’t get out… and they all make it to the getaway boat except for Quinn – who couldn’t keep up with a bullet in his leg (next book?).

And DeAnne comes to appreciate the adrenalin high and that Kip isn’t like her father… and Kip comes to like the STORM team’s more relaxed military mindset yet high powered jobs – and that it is immature of him to have avoided his family… and he wants a life with DeAnne…

Once rescued, they board her father’s ship… ahhhh…

Fast paced action with an ensemble cast of previous and new characters.

Kiptyn Llowell is a marine on a solitary mission that’s gone FUBAR in China. Since he’s on his own he decides to use a woman who is with the U.S. Department of State as his way out of the situation he is in.

DeAnne Lovejoy is in China doing her job when sexy marine grabs her and says her needs her help. Neither of them realizes that Kip’s cover was purposely blown and he is a wanted man. These two go on a harrowing adventure through the countryside not only trying to get away but also fighting their feelings for each other which is complicated by Kip never wanting a relationship with anything but the Marines and DeAnne having issues with men that are hardcore marines. They both learn a thing or two along the way about themselves and what’s really important to them.

During this the Storm Corps has been called in for a mission. The mission that Kip thought he was doing. Yes, the gang from the Passion for Danger series along with Nikolai and Julie and Clint from the earlier books in this series is back and right in the thick of things. If you’ve read Nina before you know she has multiple story lines/ couple’s all within the story. Quinn and Darcy are back in the forefront with Darcy still having commitment issues about the wedding. I love all the guys from Storm Corps and it was great seeing them in action again even though

I admit the reason I picked up this book was for the cover. Shallow much? I don’t think so. There are so many wonderful authors and books out there that it’s hard to pick and choose which one to read next. Bloggers and reviewers are helpful, but it comes down to me making the decision to pick it up. Covers and blurbs are what draw my attention to an author I’ve never read before. And in this case, the cover did the book justice.

I really enjoyed this book. It took me a bit to get into the story, but after the initial introduction, I was completely swept away. I was a little thrown by the military talk and it was hard to keep track of the acronyms at times, but this story really held me captive.

Opposites definitely attract in this book; a Marine to the core who eats war for breakfast and a diplomat who fights battles with her words. Can there be a common ground between the two? I loved watching their journey unfold in the middle of all the chaos that surrounded them.

This book is action-packed! There is espionage, covert ops, submarine chases, and several rescue attempts both successful and not. With primary and secondary characters finding the courage to face their fears and fight their demons while best-laid plans turn FUBAR in a foreign province. I don’t want to go into too much detail and give away all the plot twists and turns but you are in for an exciting journey with this book. And although it is the third book in a series; it can be read as a standalone. I was thoroughly riveted by this read and I can’t wait to see what Nina has in store next!

3.25 Stars for the book and 10 Stars for the yummy cover! I would have rated this book higher had some details not been left dangling. Yes, there is a cliff hanger, but the cliff hanger is for a different couple. Kip had such issues with his family, I needed to see some type of reconciliation. Also DeAnne said that her mom worked two jobs to support her, but I didn't know why, I understand her dad was in the military, but was her parent's divorced and he wasn't providing support. Because when her and her dad had a short conversation in the end, it sounded like he was there to me. Also, why didn't that scene get drawn out more? Her dad had a huge impact on her dealing with Kip, so I felt it needed more detail. Hopefully we see more of Kit and DeAnn in the next book. The love scenes were sweet and hot and I like Kip and DeAnn as a couple, just wanted more ending for their family situations.

I had read this book last year without reading books one and two first, so I re-read it after I read Red Heat and White Hot. I recommend reading them in order as there is an underlying storyline throughout. Book three introduces familiar characters from the Passion for Danger trilogy, some folks from STORM Corps. So I also recommend reading Shoot to Thrill, If Looks Could Chill, and A Kiss to Kill before reading the Men in Uniform trilogy, for continuity and also because it's a good series.

I liked Kip and DeAnne. They were a fun couple; the chemistry and the romance were good. A second romance for Darcy and Quinn (of STORM) is also told. Additionally, Julie, Nikolai, and Clint make appearances. The action and suspense are entertaining, as are the interactions of all the characters.

I have been so so on this series, not really sure why I keep reading them. There always seems to be something in the romance that I have a hard time buying into it, this one is no different with the instant attraction and sex. What really saved this book was the STORM people. I liked the team and how they worked. I especially liked that there was a woman on the team. It was fun to see how Darcy and DeeAnn related to each other and dealt with some of the action. I also really liked how the two women ended up having to save the guys.

I loved the ride this book gave me. Boy this was too hot and too action packed to have been sitting in my 'to read' basket all this time. I have to admit, I am an instant fan. This chick is an awesome author. I didn't even realize I had almost finished the book when I did. It was that good, I didn't pay attention. I hated the twist in the end for Darcy, but will be looking for the others of this series... SOON.

First time to read this author. Story was okay-ish but I would have loved to see more integration of China flavor (good or bad) in the book - seeing as China was the background setting to the story. I think it would have added more depth and reality to the story. I also think the suspense didn't quite hold together - left me wondering was the mission successful or not? The answer (or lack) in the end was over shadowed by the romance.

It was okay. I did a fair amount of skimming. I've really enjoyed the other books I've read by this author. This one left me a little flat though.

The first two books in this series are action packed to the extreme with enough sexual tension to require a cold shower, and Forever Blue is no different. Once again, the two main characters meet right away, and within moments they are thrown into a perilous situation giving them a dangerous backdrop for their budding romance. This book is all about extremes, from the adventure, covert missions and exotic places and steamy passion, it has it all.
Summary:
Handsome and a little reckless, Major Kiptyn Llowell finds himself in a desperate situation. When his top-secret mission to China suddenly comes unstuck, he looks towards the extremely attractive DeAnne Lovejoy to help him to his rendezvous point.
As an officer of the U.S Department of State, DeAnne helps American’s in distress in foreign countries all the time, but helping Kip is more than she bargains for.
Before they get a chance to act on their mutual attraction, they are attacked by an enemy platoon suddenly throwing them into a dangerous adventure. Running for their lives, their covers are blown, they come together to complete Kip’s secret mission, lives at stake.
