Always be wary of a book (or practitioner or company or product) that seems to promise to cure complex health problems like chronic pain conditions. Anyone living with longterm, complex chronic pain like that of fibromyalgia will be disappointed at least 99.9% of the time if you take such promises at face value. And the title and back cover blurbs of this edition really push it with phrases like "stop pain" and "eliminating pain." But in terms of actual content, this book is really not a bad backgrounder on approaches to understanding and managing pain, especially since it was published in 1999. (I know it has been reprinted since and wonder if the information was updated in those reprints?) Just please don't expect miraculous cures.
"The Pain Cure..." is a look at the cause and treatment of chronic pain. There are four factors discussed in the author's discussion of chronic pain, namely, nutrition, body work, medication and mental control. The section on mental control is the most unique and interesting of the four approaches and is well worth the read. The author provides a cogent plan in reversing many painful chronic diseases and conditions. I would highly recommend this book and its use as a valuable reference.
This old book fell into my lap just when I needed it, and it has given me hope not to mention many practical tools for dealing with pain. Unfortunately, I live in a city which does not offer many options in terms of pain, clinics or pain doctors but with this information, I think I can cobble something together.
