This is the 8th book in the Sons of Chance series.

Houdini has a habit of getting out of his stall; out of all the horses at the Last Chance Ranch he is the one that gives everyone the most problems. As a last attempt Mathew Tredway has been hired to come to the ranch. He has a way with difficult horses and has traveled the world training horses no one else could.

Mathew’s love of adventure will come in handy on the ranch. The ranch’s normal cook Mary Lou, has finally accepted Watkins marriage proposal and they have left on a three week cruise to get married and see the world. Mary Lou’s niece Aurelia Imogene Smith comes to the ranch to serve as cook while she is gone. Aurelia has in her head that these cowboys need to expand their horizons, therefore every day she finds another exotic recipe to make for the meal. The cowboys look to Mathew to help them improve the meal situation. Soon Mathew and Aurelia are making meal plans in the evenings, and having some “quality” time with each other.

Sadly it is my least favorite of all the Last Chance books. The plot seemed strained to me. I do not find it believable someone would come to a ranch for the purpose of being the cook and think the cowboys would want to each French food. It did provide some hints into the goings on of other characters from past books, such as the pending weddings that were discussed.

This one just felt very blah compared to Ms. Thompson's other Sons of Chance books. I think it needed more character development, but it was an okay, short (just over 200 pages) read.

Horse trainer extraordinaire Matthew Tredway comes to Last Chance Ranch to train a problem horse, not to fall hard for the ranch’s stand-in cook. Matthew focuses on tall, sophisticated, rootless and well-travelled women; none of which attributes can be ascribed to Aurelia. They quickly agree on a short term fling but tensions arise between the couple when Matthew wants her to travel the world with him and she flatly refuses. One of my favourite stores in this series - loved the training of Houdini with the help of kids and the menus that Amelia served up for the cowboys.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a re-release of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The basic bones of most romance novels, aka smutty gulity pleasure, is hero and heroine meet, have an instant sexual chemistry while either disliking one another or having some other problem that stands between them, soon sexin it up like nobody's business and so on and so forth. This one is no exception, not sure if that's a good thing or bad thing, guess it will depend on how you like your romance novels. If you want the formula story, then here it is.
The tried and true formula can by mighty fun to read and there's a reason that it works. But it only works if the characters are made intriguing, not only by their personalities, but by their imperfections. There needs to be sexual chemistry, of course, but it needs to feel a part of the story and not simply be the story. There should be more between them than the fact that they just can't keep their clothes on whenever they see each other. And there should be real obstacles to their happily ever after. If I don't buy the reasons they can't end up together, the whole thing just won't work for me.
The hero is one hot hunk of cowboy and he's well done. His lifestyle makes sense and his personality is engaging. The heroine is interesting, but the reason they can't be together is somewhat contrived, in my opinion. I mean, how can anyone know they don't want to travel if they never tried it? That is like looking at chocolate, anything chocolate and saying, "my family aren't chocolate eaters" without allowing yourself to taste the awesome deliciousness that is chocolate at all, or saying "it's brown and I don't eat brown food" and then throwing a hissy fit when asked to simply think about trying it, picking a fight instead of discussing it like an adult.
This fell very flat for me. I could have understood it had she had an actual aversion or anxiety to flying maybe, but to have never tried before deciding she can never travel because some of her family members have not had good experiences away from home or are simply bad travellers seemed somewhat ridiculous. And for it to be resolved as it was also seemed very simplistic and ridiculous as well.
I didn't know when I picked this up that it was part of a series. That isn't much of a problem, except that the prologue has no connection to the story and some of the characters I didn't know who they were. A bit distracting, but whatever.
So, my advice would be know what you're going to get. Three star to me is average and this is just a little below an average romance novel, more of a two and a half. It's neither particularly good nor particularly bad, but with a few problems, at least for me. If you want your generic hot sexy romance read, you'll probably enjoy this one. If you're looking for something with a bit more to it, I'd look elsewhere. For what it is, I'd say it's okay.

Matthew Tredway is a famous horse trainer for problematic horses. He's been hired by The Last Chance Ranch to help a troubled horse named Houdini. Matthew is looking forward to home cooked meal at the ranch only to discover that the current cook isn't really serving cowboy fare the ranch hands are used too. Aurelia Imogene Smith is Mary Lou Simms niece has taken over cooking duties but doesn't realize that her meals aren't being well received. Matthew appreciates Aurelia's cooking because of his travels and encourages Aurelia to compromise her cooking style to accommodate her Aunt Mary Lou's recipes along with her own. Matthew and Aurelia are instantly attracted to each other. They try to only see their budding relationship as fling but their hearts have other ideas. Aurelia is more comfortable being a home body while Matthew enjoys traveling. Can Houdini be trained? Will Aurelia step out of her comfort zone? Will Matthew compromise to ensure Aurelia's happiness? Your answers await you in Lead Me Home.

The Sons of Chance Series continues to get better with each book. Matthew and Aurelia's story is one about compromise and moving out of your comfort zone. I love how each book builds on the previous one! I'm definitely looking forward to my next adventure in the series.

REALLY loved this one! I loved that the continuing saga of the Chance family was present but that both characters were new to the scene. I will also say that the sex scenes were really fresh this time around too and the heat started really early into the book, both things I love! This book also spoke to me on a personal level. A lot of the issues the couple faced are issues my own hubby and I have faced (he is an adventurer and I am a home-body), so that really made this book resonate with me even after I was done with it! GREAT JOB! Highly recommend!

I did not realize this was part of a series and it did not matter that I had not read any of the other books, this book stands alone. It was a great fast read. I love me some smokin hot cowboys, I will have to keep an eye out for the other titles in this series. This ranch was full of love and I would really like to read everyone else's story.

another one I just couldn't get into, couldn't get over the woman's idiocy over feeding the cowhands (or whatever you wanna call them) escargot and spinach soufflé.. I've never been on a ranch or farm in my life but i'm guessing it's more of meat and potatoes sort of place and that the workers need a hell of a lot more calories to not be starving than snails could provide..

Although I enjoyed the previous book (Wyatt's story) better, it is still always a joy to revisit The Last Chance ranch. Matthew was one hell of a sexy cowboy!!

Vicki' stories, though often guilty pleasures, are a pleasure to read nonetheless.
