About the author

Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle was a Scottish writer and physician. He created the character Sherlock Holmes in 1887 for A Study in Scarlet, the first of four novels and fifty-six short stories about Holmes and Dr. Watson. The Sherlock Holmes stories are milestones in the field of crime fiction.

Doyle was a prolific writer. In addition to the Holmes stories, his works include fantasy and science fiction stories about Professor Challenger, and humorous stories about the Napoleonic soldier Brigadier Gerard, as well as plays, romances, poetry, non-fiction, and historical novels. One of Doyle's early short stories, "J. Habakuk Jephson's Statement" (1884), helped to popularise the mystery of the brigantine Mary Celeste, found drifting at sea with no crew member aboard.

Azt hiszem, elvetemült Sherlock Holmes imádó vagyok és maradok még sokáig.

Nem bánom, hogy a BBC Sherlock kapcsán a könyvekig jutottam, azt inkább sajnálom, hogy a Robert Downey Jr. SH-filmeknek nem sikerült ezt hamarabb elérniük nálam…

Összességében szeretem Watson írásait, ahogyan felvezeti az egyes Sherlock Holmes történeteket. Élmény onnan indulni, hogy reggeli, olvasás vagy bármi közben beérkezik hozzájuk egy-egy eset. Talán csak azt sajnálom, hogy nem mindig van levezetése a sztoriknak. Igen nagy gondom ezekkel a Holmes-történetekkel, hogy mindenki folyton ájuldozik, elalél. De komolyan… Doyle folyton kifekteti a népeket!

This book contains the first half of the all Sherlock Holmes stories. Most of the the stories are very good, but some of them not good enough.

My major problems with Sherlock Holmes arrogant behavior, and his hidden investigating. Unfortunately we know little about his real progress until the end, when he solve the cases.

My other problem is Watson is not a realy sidekick, in most part of their cases just a chronicler. He only get small pieces of information from Sherlock, who is mostly very unfair with him.

The stories are entertaining, however a little old-fashined.
