Poetic text and brightly hued pastel drawings capture springtime's sweet smells, soft sounds, and blooming colors in this simple, captivating story for very young children. Leaving her warm dark hole, Rabbit uses all her senses to explore the telltale signs that something wonderful is happening-spring has arrived.
Little rabbit wakes up in the barrow, he hears something and needs to go out and figure out what it is. As he hops around he meets a ladybug, fluffy grass, flowers, a baby bird and more things. Finally he knows what the sound was, he rush back to his family and tell the news that spring is here. I would use this book to go over the idea of season, discuss the differences between spring, summer, fall and winter. For the spring we would go on a scavenger hunt and look for spring things outside at the park. Taking pictures of flowers, green grass, new plants, bugs and other spring related topic. As a class we would question why the season change and if it changes the exact same in all parts of the world. Learning about different environments and habitats. From Rain forest, deserts, Monsoon, sandstorms, hurricanes, wind, rain, and snow and other weather patterns. In class we can talk about bugs.
its a cute story and the pictures are just very detailed
Bornstein, R. (1995). Rabbit's good news. New York: Clarion Books.
This story is about a baby rabbit who becomes curious when she peaks out of her hole in the ground and smells some new smells, and feels something touch her nose. She then has to go and discover what they new things are. She comes across some new friends, such as a worm, and a butterfly. She encounters the grass and the flowers. She feels the warm breeze against her. Then she finally figures out what is happening, so she races home to tell her family. When she gets home she announces that spring has finally come. I thought that this story was sweet, and it would be a fun book to read to students on the first day of spring. I didn't particularly like the art, but that would be the only thing that I didn't like about the story.
Great bilingual book, it engaged all the children in day care as they tried to guess the news. Lots of good adjectives for the children to learn. We got the board book which was easy for even the youngest infants to hold. The glossy covers were easy to disinfect. The print is small, this is a book for you to read to the children, not for them to practice reading themselves. A big plus is that this book was grammatically correct in both English and Spanish, a lot of bilingual books are butchered in one language. The pictures are beautiful. Of the thousands of books I've read to the children, this one is a gem. The story got the children talking about the seasons/weather and the five senses.
We should have snow the ground. It should be cold, it is February 20th, but it is warm...scary warm. This books says spring is here! Well it is here...I hope it snow in March if not...we are in a mess of trouble!!
