Brigadier Peter Young, DSO, MC & 2 bars was a British soldier & WWII veteran. He served with the Commandos during that war, ultimately commanding a Brigade. After the war, he commanded a regiment on secondment to the Jordanian Arab Legion. After his retirement from the army, he became a lecturer at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, and eventually also a well-respected author of books on Military History, particularly with reference to the Second World War, the English Civil War & the Napoleonic Wars.
I didn’t read the whole book, which, I suppose, is a little outdated by now. I merely used the maps, photos and some of the text provided here as an ally in my engagement with Winston Churchill’s memoir of the Second World War, and this turned out to be quite satisfactory. (see my review here)
I really liked this book. One reason why I think I liked it so much was because the book explained all of the offensives and campaigns such as the Japanese offensive and the Burma campaign. I think this book was very accurate on the casualties and numbers. The last reason that I enjoyed this book so much is that it had lot's of maps and visual ways to understand battles and more. This is why I really liked this book.
