The Whale who ate Everything is a cute story about a whale that was so hungry. He started off eating little things like a pail or a piece of mail and he would get a little bit bigger. Eventually he was eating everything and he was so sad because he had a hard time swimming around. One day the whale saw and anchor for a boat and, although he knew it was a bad idea, he tried to eat it and it got stuck. The story takes an interesting twist and the anchor that the whale had attempted to eat gets hooked to all the many things he had eaten before and pulls them out. The small, happy, blue whale is himself again and is perfectly fine with eating the normal green algae.

This picture book is so much fun for kids because it uses a lot of repetitive lines that allow the children to join along and get involved in the story too. It also makes for a funny read because the whale is eating such unusual things such as an anchor and a pail. I think that this picture book is good for entertainment and bringing fun and joy into the classroom.

This book is about a blue whale who becomes extremely hungry. He becomes so hungry that he starts eating everything he comes across in the see. The whale realizes that he cant eat everything in sight so he sticks to his regular algae diet. This book is made for younger children. It suites this audience because it is full of funny pictures and captions. It also has a really creative story line that children can enjoy. This book is full of rhyming words, so it's perfect for a child who is learning how to rhyme. I could easily use this book in my field because I am going into early childhood. I would read this book out loud to my students and make them pick out all of the rhyming words, and maybe have them read the captions that the other characters in the book are saying.

Wonderful tale. Sometimes it is best just to embrace the whimsical in a children's story book. Dan has caught on to this. Highly recommend.

The whale who ate everything starts off with a small sized blue who is looking for something to eat because he was very hungry. Everything that the whale ate rhymed with whale including a pail, words in braille, mail, and his own tail. Every time the whale ate something, he got bigger and bigger. The whale just kept eating unusual items until he became so big that he couldn’t swim anymore. The wale came across an anchor from a boat, and the anchor ended up getting stuck inside the whale. As the boat started to pull its anchor up, the anchor pulled everything out of the whale that he had ate, and the whale went back to his small size again. I would use this book in my classroom for a rhyming unit. The students are able to recognize multiple rhyming examples throughout the book as they read, and the students will then be able to make a rhyming poem of their own afterwards.

"The Whale Who Ate Everything" is written and illustrated by Dan Devoe. With simpler text choices that rhyme, a reader can easily follow along as a small blue whale eats everything in sight, making him turn slowly into a big blue whale. The illustrations are colorful but use only primary colors and line work that is light, yet edgy, to create basic shapes that children will recognize. The whale continues to eat random things and eventually gets a hold of something that is too big for his stomach. The whale tries to eat an anchor but it gets stuck on the objects the whale had eaten that were not "whale friendly foods." The anchor pulls all of the bad food out of the whale, making him a small whale again. After his run in with the anchor, the whale decides to eat better, "Just eating normal whale food such as algae...He finds it tasty and it makes him so happy." Overeating, or gluttony, is also bad and children need to know that moderation is key. It takes the whale's stomach contents being stuck on an anchor for him to realize that he was not digesting "real food." Eating healthier food is better for you and this story teaches children that eating only want they like, is not a good thing.

Summary:
This book tells the story of a whale who was very hungry. He was so hungry that he started to eat everything he could find, as he ate he began to grow bigger and bigger. Until he came across an anchor, which pulled everything out of his stomach.

Evaluation:
This book is perfect for the intended audience, it has colorful pictures and rhyming words to keep students engaged.

Teaching Idea:
This would be a good book for younger grades when you talk about the importance of eating right. The book shows how the whale eats all these bad things but learns that he has to eat what it meant for him.

Charming and whimsical illustrations follow a little blue whale as he satisfies his great big hunger with things he should not be eating, like mail or chocolate or a car. With each item he eats he gets a little bit bigger until he is too big to swim. Still, when a boat anchor floats by he can't help himself but to take a bite with fortuitous results. I can imagine little ones asking for this story again and again.

I liked this book but it was a bit slow. The rhyming words would be good for kids though. I thought the illustrations and the commentary were unique and funny. I think this book would be best for younger children since older students would most likely find the book’s content too simple.

This story is about a whale that eats many things he is not supposed to eat. This includes: a guitar, a pumpkin, and a jar. He eats them one by one because he is trying to get bigger. When he is at his biggest he sees an anker attached to a boat. He imagines what it would taste like and puts it in his mouth. The anker gets stuck in his mouth and he gets scared. When the boat pulled off the anker pulls all of the objects that he swallowed. Now at normal size he only ate things whales were supposed to eat.
The organization of the book was very repetitive. The left side had the words and the right had an illustration. Only on certain pages the illustration drifted to the word page on the top left to create a flow. The words and picture definitely worked hand in hand to tell the story with a lot of personality
The colors used were not particular to a mood. Although, the whale stood out from the baby blood background nicely. The colors were not real life colors but what someone would imagine them to be. This put a magical type feeling to the reader. The illustrator also offered many little side words that were a part of the illustration. These were very funny and gave some comic relief to the story.
While reading this, I could almost hear a child laughing at certain parts. It give a child a funny non informational story to just have fun with. The only lesson that I can point out is not the eat everything you find, but to eat only food. The main character was a whale to represent him in an innocent way. It is humorous that the whale wanted to continuously get larger, but in reality he was already very large to humans.

The whale Who ate everything
By Dan Devoe

The book is about a very hungry blue whale who eats every object he comes across whilst swimming, such as a pail and piece of mail. He eventually gets bigger and bigger and begins to find it hard to swim around in the sea. The story has a twist. He then comes across an anchor and attempts to eat that too, but it gets hooked onto all the things and he had previously eaten and pulls it all out. The big whale becomes small again and is then happy to start eating the normal green algae again.

This creative book is aimed at younger children and is full of funny pictures. This book is great to bring humour and entertainment to the class. It is good to use in Literacy, where rhyme is being introduced. In includes the uses of repetition, which enables the children to interact with the text. You can also use this book in mathematics as children can count the objects eaten by the whale.

This is a cute little picture book for small children from 0-2 years of age and teaches children about the consequences of their actions. This story is about a whale who keeps eating things that he was not supposed to eat like his mail and then a pail. This is a hilarious story about a whale who was hungry and just ate everything in sight and kept getting bigger and bigger. The whale got so big from eating things that he should not have, that he became bigger than any other whale and became so sad. He decided that that he would only eat the things that he was supposed to eat. This little book is great for teaching children about consequences and not eating everything that they see. The illustrations in the book covers up most of the page and has very simplistic vocabulary which is great for young readers.

This book was cute and funny! The illustrations were very simple and colorful but perfect for this children's story. The whale are everything and could never get enough so he kept getting bigger and bigger. In the text the word "bigger" was larger each time he ate something which I thought was very creative! Eventually everything the whale eats comes out and he goes back to eating his seaweed and is happy. This would be a great book to teach children that they need to eat healthy and maybe even introduce Americas obesity problem, it would be good to teach them they should try to live a healthy lifestyle.

1. Summary: There is a whale and he eats so much things that aren't normal food which makes him get bigger and bigger. He could no longer swim and no longer grin. Miraculously an anchor pulls everything out and he goes back to normal size and eating normal food. The only character is the whale. The art style is cartoon and a lot of horizontal line. There is no open space on the picture pages , except on the word pages. This book is good for pointing out rhyming words and it uses a lot of words that rhyme with whale. Lastly, this book takes place in the sea.

This book is great for children. If you're trying to teach a child how to read, I recommend this book. In my opinion, the rhyming helps children remember story and eventually they recognize the words. Dan Devoe uses great diction in this book!

This is a quick read, but with such a cute character. The blue whale is just so hungry, so he starts to eat everything in sight. Haven't we all been there? Eventually he fixes his problem and decides to just stick to whale food. I would love to read this book to a preschool or kindergarten class.

This is a fantasy fiction picture book talks about the main character a whale who eats everything in the sea and got bigger and bigger. The first thing caught my eye is the artistic design of the whale on the front cover, it is a big blue and round whale with a big smile on his face. The design of the Whale creates the happy and funny tone to the readers. In the book, the style of the pictures used the colored pencils which created a happy, light and simple mood. The text worked well with the pictures and they were specially designed to reflect the meaning of words. For example, if the text mentions the word "Bigger", the font size will be larger than other words. The design of the text made the reading more interesting and fun to read. Overall, this is a great fantasy fiction book for young readers to read.
