Would you believe a junior high school principal who is also a nationally known cartoonist of school life? Meet Bill Knowlton, Principal of Edison Junior High School in Waterloo, Iowa. He's been a teacher for more than twenty years, so he knows what goes on in classrooms. (Isn't it nice that he can still laugh about it?)
After sixteen months of the pandemic, remote instruction, “adapted” grading standards and a public convinced that face masks and vaccines are a Communist conspiracy, the travails of education as depicted in this short collection look almost cute.
The main characters in this book of cartoons are two elementary school boys that do not like having to sit and do schoolwork. They are also full of the mischief that boys that age seem to be full of. The humor is low-key, understandable and light enough for elementary school children. The author/cartoonist is himself the principal of a junior high school and has has been for more than twenty years, so the events in these captions are no doubt descriptions of his experiences. If you are looking for some simple fun or reminders of some of the things when you were in school, read this book.
Some of the jokes in this collection work, but most are painfully unfunny even by one liner standards. It deals with kids acting like adults, that is it. It works rarely and fails almost all the time. The teacher has jokes as well, but they never made me laugh. I might break out this book to annoy my friends.
