Mentality: The characteristic attitude of mind or way of thinking of a person or group.
There is much that can be determined about a person once their MENTALITY is discovered, and many believe that the way a person thinks influences their actions more than any other factor. For those things to be true, it would also mean that a person's MENTALITY would make their actions as predictable and easily read as an open book.
For David Horsham, Kyree Singh, and Natalie Porter, reading people's MENTALITY is more than a hobby, its a way of life. All three pride themselves on having the skills to predict other's movements, and all three use those skills to manipulate outcomes in their favor. They are slick and cunning, the best at what they do. But when all three paths cross one another, there can only be one left standing in the end. When MONEY, POWER, GREED, and REVENGE are involved, the battle becomes much more than a competition, its a matter of life and death. They are all used to being in control, but what happens when the roles are reversed?
In the fourth book from South Philly writer Ceet The Author, complex characters, intertwining storylines, and jaw-dropping twist and turns propel the story forward and keep the pages turning. MENTALITY is a detailed account about what happens when the powerful become the powerless, and the predators become the prey.
Ceet The Author hails from South Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he began honing his craft as an artist as early as age nine. At fourteen he wrote a short story for his high school English class entitled “Summertime in my neighborhood”, and fifteen years later that story became the basis for Ceet’s first official release, 2009’s “The Whore and The Virgin.” The book became an instant hood classic and all of the positive feedback inspired Ceet to release his second effort, “A Dog’s Day” that very same year.
While gaining recognition as a writer Ceet then began pursuing another passion, filmmaking and videography. In 2010 he wrote, produced, and directed “The Wrong Few Brothas” movie/music video starring City Council and Jay Stars. Also in 2010 was the release of “The Dead End Movement”, a documentary about the Philadelphia community where Ceet was raised. After completing the documentary Ceet went on to produce and direct a number of independent film projects, including the “The BARZ freestyle series” and the “Dead End Cyphers”, as well as a number of music videos for artist in and around Philadelphia, including the 2012 street banger “The South Philly Anthem.”
Today Ceet continues to study his craft and pursue his dreams from his home in South Philly. He’s already released several more novels under his imprint BRP Entertainment, as well as several skits, web series, and music videos. With many more projects down the line Ceet shows no signs of slowing down.
I found this book very difficult to read and evaluate. I suspect some of that has to do with its genre, which I can only guess at: urban nihilism?
Raised by respectable, physician parents, Kyree still chooses the easy path and follows his uncle Vincent into the drug trade. He seems to be a natural, and he especially likes the access his money gives to lots of women. The other characters all ultimately make similar choices having to do with money and sex. That seems to be the basis for the mentality of the title here: easy money, easy sex, and interpersonal manipulations of one to get access to the other.
What I liked: Mentality was a relatively fast-paced and absorbing read with some good action scenes and few extraneous words. I especially liked the fight scenes, which were realistic and well done. The basic premise was somewhat intriguing and the manipulations were easy to follow and generally not forced. I liked the grittiness of some of the dialogue and the fact that some of the characters are street-wise.
What didn’t work for me: the book didn’t match the description. The manipulations involved money and sex – in fact, there was enough graphic sex to disrupt the pacing after a while (I got the point – they like it, they are good at it, they are driven by it, depending on gender it’s their weapon or their downfall) - with nothing really resembling power manipulations other than the sex. Also, there were no ‘jaw-dropping twist and turns.’ What could have been turned into a bit of a psychological thriller dealing with sexual obsession/addiction was hampered by the lack of depth in any of the characterizations. Far from being complex, the characters were clichés, and instead of growing and evolving, they jumped from one mindset to another with nothing but the shallowest introspection. They are also so uniformly corrupt and lacking in charm that it was hard to care what happened to any of them.
SPOILER ALERT: Expanding upon the deprived background of several of the characters might have made their motivations more credible. Unfortunately, since he was raised by legitimately prosperous parents and there is no mention of abuse, Kyree is even less sympathetic than he might have been otherwise. He chose his immoral lifestyle. Of the women, Natalie comes across as most realistic and ultimately the most likable because of this grit.
The successful outcome of the plotting is ultimately unbelievable, realistically motivated or not: with the amounts of money at stake here, with business associates and tax obligations and lawyers and criminal investigators involved (because of the violent crimes), the women’s rather crude scheming would ultimately fail. That basically depletes the last bit of cleverness their scheming lends the story, and it comes across as lame.. END SPOILER ALERT
Issues that should have been addressed with some editing, or even second thoughts: the POV shifts often and the same vocabulary is used throughout to describe characters’ thoughts. Example: an upper middle class woman uses the same terminology for breasts (titties) as the male characters. Speaking of offensive, there is some use of the n-word by black characters in this book. The author and some readers may find it appropriate to the dialogue, but it deserves mention as a warning.
At one point, the timeline is announced as “Two Years Earlier” but subsequent chapters switch freely between the two timelines without notifying the reader. The reader has to follow that by noticing which characters are in the scene.
Dialogue attributions are stretched to the point of distracting from the dialogue: smirks are overused and so are laughs, which are used to indicate that the characters said something funny even though there really wasn’t enough humor there to justify a laugh. And even more distracting was the fact that attributions are routinely separated from the dialogue by periods when commas should have been used. It doesn’t just look strange, but it’s illogical.
Misused words were common: ‘pass’ for past (consistently), ‘rose peddles’ for rose petals, ‘in tack’ for intact, ‘puddy’ for putty, ‘every since’ for ever since, ‘I’ am’ for I’m (consistently), ‘it’d took him’ for it’d taken him, ‘nozzle’ for gun muzzle, ‘laid’ for lay. There were more, and each one dumped me out of the narrative.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book made my head hurt. I have no idea what to rate it, so it gets a 3, shifting votes in no way.
So the first chapter drew me in, then chapter 2 takes me to a whole different couple/situation, and again in chapter 3, and so on. Every time I began enjoying the story, I was ripped from it and dropped in another place and time, sometimes left wonder with who.
This book has some major black/white issues. *All black characters are portrayed as gang bangers, hoes, gold diggers, unintelligent, and murders. There was one mention of a female doctor, but seriously, one line. *All white characters are rich, commanding, intelligent, and manipulative.
Way to bring segregation back. Oh, no a black guy walked into a room of all white guys, everyone be quiet and stare, he is probably up to something. Really!?!?!?!? And the only time the races can meet is for illicit affairs or scheming.
The are also some major gender issues here. *All men a powerful, big shots, who use females and cheat on them. They all want to have the little stepford wife at home supporting her man and turning a blind eye to all his illicit affairs. Yet they all hate being married. And then their mentality is I can "control her mind, and subsequently her body with ease." Also "All she'd need is someone to teach her the game." "Girls are stupid. If they only knew the power they held between their legs, they'd be runnin' shit, But I guess it's better that they don't..." *All the women are conniving, gold diggers, that tend to get walked all over. Their thoughts on men are, "A man's mentality makes his actions predictable. If you learn his mentality, you can pretty much make him do whatever you want him to do." They also advise, "You can never tell what a woman is thinking. Even if you know her, I bet she's deeper than you know."
If I hadn't said I would review this, I mostly likely would have stopped reading it. The blatant stereotyping was so annoying. But I continued.
Once I got to around 65-70% the stories lines were starting to blur. They seemed to all be carrying the same information, but different. Then around 75% it was rapid fire information that made everything clear, but yet insanely confusing. After the first 70% was so slow, but ok, it was like a sensory overload of information.
The best part of the book last 5-6 chapters. However it was still all over the place. This book could have been a lot better, just by changing the approach it was written. Keeping story lines together would have helped. Or even following a time line better. I plotted it out and think I have it but still not 100% sure.
One thing I want to know is, how many hours are in Natalie's day. She has 5 regular customers, goes out to get pizza with her friend, gets coffee with her friend, sleeps all day, takes her weave out, does all this plotting and scheming, and still has time to go shopping with her friend.
So this book left me with a few phrase running through my mind....
*Hell have no fury, like a woman scorned. *Oh the sweet, sweet taste of revenge. *Oh what tangled webs we weave, when first we practice to deceive *Hate the playa, not the game *You can't turn a hoe into a housewife
This book was amazing. It kept me glued to it from the very first page. I love the characters and how they all have their own ways of going after the same goal. This story is intense and will make you think about your own drive to become successful. How ruthless would you be, how conniving, murderous even. I also like the way the author separated the book into different story lines, so its like you're reading three different stories at once. I' am not being bias because I know this author personally. I've read all of his work and I truly believe he deserves to be recognized by a broader audience.
I just finished this book a few hours ago and my review has been playing over and over again in my head. I am torn between a 3 and a 4. Let me explain.
First I want to state that I got this book for free with the promise that I would write a review on it. I usually add my little disclaimer at the end, telling the reader of the review not to hold that fact against my review, but this time I really feel I need to put it up here with my explanation. See, if I hadn't promised the review, I probably would have stopped reading somewhere around the 3rd paragraph, which is definitely unusual for me. I don't like sex, especially EXPLICIT sex, in the books that I read and in the TV shows and movies that I watch. I don't think it adds ANYTHING to the story. There can be the subtle innuendos, the known fact in the background, but the explicit stuff, for me it detracts your attention from the plot - are people really so insecure about their plots that they need to throw in a bunch of sex to muddle things up? There were whole sections - 4 or 5 paragraphs, sometimes more - that I skipped over to get through these sex scenes.
That being said, the ending more than made up for the beginning.
Here's where I may start giving you a little too much information on the story so, please, stop reading now if you are not interested in knowing before you read the story some specific thoughts of mine, because I do not wish to ruin the story for anyone who has not read it and intends to do so. Thank you. :)
At 71% done I was still confused about how the two stories went together - they were SO different - one being about an ex-drug dealer and his girlfriend/fiance, with some "guest appearances" by the new neighbors they have; the other about a woman who uses men for their money, a rich man who cheats on his wife and the rich man's wife and daughter. At this point in the story, the only characters I liked were the wife and daughter and I was spending a lot of time dodging those sex scenes and the constant talk about how this person or this person makes this person or this person's "dick hard." Ugh. The mother and daughter were the only redeeming qualities of the book, the only ones with any sort of morals.
Then we get to 80% and EVERYTHING changes ... I mean everything ... and the story is not what you think it is at all. Had I stopped reading like I had originally intended, I would have missed out on the point. I liked the ending ... a lot.
That's where my dilemma is. Without the sex scenes, this could have been a 4 star book for me. It could have been something I would tell people they should read and even lend to a friend. But with those sex scenes - I just feel I need to warn everyone to watch out.
You may enjoy it. You may think it's a 4 or a 5. You may not agree with what I'm upset about (there are a huge amount of people that like romance books and erotica books). But this is my review and that's not my kind of thing. When I read these books for authors, I don't read anyone else's reviews until I am done with the book because I don't want anyone else's impressions to stick with me as I read the story, but in this one, I really wish someone had warned me.
I have to go on the record saying that this book is definitely not in my normal genre. However, I was intrigued enough by the premise of this book to read it, when the author asked me for my honest review. Unfortunately, Goodreads doesn't have a half-star option, because I think this book deserves a 3.5.
I was pleasantly surprised by how well the women of this book were written. Normally, men who write women (to me) are hit or miss, either completely accurate or way off base. Mentality is definitely the former. The characters seemed gritty and real, and though I didn't connect with them as much as I'd have liked, I appreciate what the author conveyed through them.
This book is also really fast paced. It's easy to read in one sitting, and it keeps you hooked throughout the text. For me, it seemed a bit too rushed in parts, but overall it works at a good pace, and is clear to understand.
That being said, I found the fight scenes extremely well done. I'm really picky when it comes to fight scenes, because I easily lose track of who is doing what, and who's winning, and things of that nature, but I didn't have a problem keeping up with this part of the story.
I had a love/hate relationship with the writing style itself. On the one hand, I appreciate the urban, well, Mentality of the prose within this text. It ads a layer of realism and heart to both the characters and the story. But at the same time, my inner grammarian couldn't help but to notice each flaw in the language. I think this book could easily get a four out of five with the help of an editor to tweak some parts.
Over all, I think that anyone with an interest in a very "real" story that addresses racial issues, drug issues, and love and lust, this might be a book for you- just be ready to read in slang. Reader beware that this contains sex, drugs, and violence.
Thank you to Ceet the Author for my copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This review can also be found on my blog, Bitches n Prose.
I received a copy of this book for free in exchange for an honest review. I have to say the book is an interesting look into people and their mindset. I pride myself in figuring out the endings of books. If I have a hard time figuring out the end, then I know it's a good read. This book was a great read because it kept me questioning my suspicions the entire time. Just when I thought I knew what would happen next, I was wrong!
I really commend the author for tackling this subject. In this day and age, the difference in mentality of men and women and their take on love can be depressing at times. As realistic as it is for men to cheat and lie, for women to use men for money and gifts, for women to hate each other instead of the men doing the cheating, I love that the author gave us Tara's hopeful outlook on life and love, as well as showing that men aren't the only ones who cheat and lie and use people. I also love that despite what any of the characters did in the book, I still liked them and found myself rooting for them.
If you're looking for a light-hearted read, this is not the book for you. But, if you're looking for a gritty perspective into the lives of real people who've been bruised and broken by life and love and circumstance, but have an interesting mentality, then this is your book. It's thought-provoking and hard to put down!
In the book "Mentality" Ceet the Author writes about everyday real life experiences. I am not going to lie, but when I began reading this book I was totally confused and lost. After reading the first chapter, the book quickly changed to a different storyline. My "wow" moment came in later chapters of the book when the connection between the characters and the understanding of the title became clearer.
I really enjoyed the overall interaction and reaction between the main characters: Kyree, Marla, Noel, Dan and Julie. I liked that the author used the term "mentality" throughout the book because it set the stage for each turn of event.
I was happy that the author asked me to review his book and provide my honest feedback. Would I purchase anymore books by this author: Definitely!
Disclaimer: I received a free download of this book in exchange for an honest review with no recompense.
I will try to give this review without giving spoilers, but some may leak unintentionally, so please BE AWARE that spoilers are possible!!!!
I was torn in whether or not to give this book 2 or 3 stars. I was asked to give an honest review so I hope nothing in this review is taken as offensive, however, there are a few things that must be said: 1) This novel is extremely fast paced. 2) The end of the story which is like the last 2-3 chapters was what would have gotten the 3 or 3.5 star rating because I feel it was the most intriguing part of the book. I really enjoyed that little portion where I had the realization of how Kyree, Dave, Dan, Natalie, Marla, Lidia, Noel, Morgan and Jenny all fit together. It was a revelatory, albeit short "OOh!!" 3) This is seemingly an urban novel. Unfortunately, it isn't one of the urban novels I would purposefully choose to read. It comes across as a book intended for those who hardly ever read. The language, the lack of editing, the awkward slang. Not because slang was used, but because I think that for a good scheme, and in an area of upper echelons, the grammar and general way of speaking would be better, even in a relaxed mode. Further Kyree grew up in an educated household so he should have been able to perform better (since he wanted to fit in) around his new counterparts when he moved to his suburban home. 4) In my opinion, the title does not really flow with the story line or the theme of the book even though "mentality" was mentioned a few sparse times in the story. It doesn't need to be blatantly repetitive, but it would have been nice to see a strong link of how someones mentality caused them to act a certain way or pursue a specific choice. For example: A deeper look at why Natalie was the way she was would have been nice. There was a bit of an explanation on Kyree (though that could have been expanded on as well) but everyone else seemed to just "fall" into the "situations that was happening around them. I feel like a better title would be 'Manipulation' or some synonym along those lines. 5) There were more sex scenes then story line at some points. 6) If there was more of a background on the characters as a whole, the entire story could have been carried by the manipulative ways of the three female characters. Prior to the "climax" which was actually towards the end (in my opinion), there were a lot of shifts in time, point of views and characters which left me confused. There was even a moment when I wondered which character I was even reading about?! 7) The characters seemed to have no middle emotion. For example: Natalie went from 'I don't care' to 'let me be on your team & please practically adopt me' wayyyyyy too easily!! Yes, a gun in her face should have evoked some kind of reaction/ emotion but that seemed like such an easy way out for someone who had such a firm determination to live this particular 'way of life' & follow a self proclaimed 'code'. 8) The timeline is not consistent. I think it mentions the time frame maybe twice. Otherwise, we are determining where we are in time on our own which was more of an annoyance at some points than anything. There were points when I wanted to focus on Lidia and we were thrown back to Kyree. Then when I was focused on Kyree, we switched to Marla. 9) Again the editing and grammar!!! There were times when I wanted to put the book down because if I saw 'I'am' one more time I would have screamed! They may seem small but they take away from the narration of the story & caused me to lose interest which extended the amount of time I took to read this story. because I wanted the story to go on, but because I procrastinated in picking it back up.
In all, the "storyline" was not a bad one, but it easily could have been much better, with very little effort.
Author: Ceet, The Author Genre: Street Lit/Urban Erotica
I received a copy of “Mentality”, from the author, in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Mentality, according to an online dictionary, is defined as a “habitual or characteristic mental attitude that determine how you will interpret and respond to situations.” This book follows three main characters’ (Kyree, Natalie, and Lidia) lives and gives an amazing account of how each character is either motivated or affected by money, wealth, power, and lust, how each of the things shape their mindsets or ”Mentality”, and the consequences, loves, and losses that these characters suffer as a result. “Mentality” follows three characters whose lives, and storylines intertwine into one book of betrayal and revenge. Initially, after reading the first few chapters of this book, I thought that the book was leaning toward being about cheating from a man’s perspective, and that the title “MENtality” was a clever play on words. Because, the author is a man, writing about men, it did give a little insight as to how some men think and feel, especially toward women and relationships. As I read more of the book, a juicy storyline, was forming between Natalie, the mistress, Dave, the cheater, and his attention starved, neglected wife Lidia. Since, the book starts two years later with the character Kyree, I wanted to know how their lives intermingled with his. All I will say, for the sake of not giving anything away, is that the ending of this book will floor the readers. I enjoyed reading “Mentality”. It was very suspenseful and dramatic with enough erotica. It is just a good story, however I wish that the author wrote more detail in the story about how the revenge took place. All in all, I would definitely and have already recommend this book to others. I also feel that this story would make an amazing screenplay.
This book was somewhat different from the books I have been reading so it was nice to read something different. I didn't love this one but I didn't hate it. What I did really love was the plot and the twist that came with it and that is where my 3 stars really come from. I started off somewhat confused on how after the 1st chapter it takes you to 2yrs before and I didn't really understand the importance until about chapter 4 or 5. And after that huni I got whiplash from going from current time to past. When I figured out the what Linda/Morgan/Natalie were up to I was ready for the action to start so I can see how it will all go down. What I didn't understand is to why when Linda look at Natalie she saw someone weak but what she should had seen was a woman that knew how to play the game and knew damn well what she was doing. And how she was playing David and she was no victim. Hell she saw more strength in Morgan than she did Natalie. I also had a problem with Kyree being a drug dealer clearly he was smart so you think that the maybe he could had been written a certain that didn't have him being some big time drug dealer. I was also confused on Kyree relationship with Marla and how he really didn't know her name. I was thinking that he was the "new fish" in her life and he knew her by Natalie but hey I could be wrong. Did connect with anyone person and the one that I did feel some kind of way about was Dan. I understand the game that was being played but I never understood how they could be okay as to what happened with Dan he was a good guy in the book and it was a shame on how he was done. Overall the plot is the thing that sticks out the most and is what made this read really great. It was still an okay book and maybe if written just a little bit different chances are it would had been great. Good job to the writer.
By: Ceet The Author Published By: BRP Books Age Recommended: Adult Reviewed By: Arlena Dean Rating: 4 Review:
"Mentality" By Ceet means: "The characteristic attitude of mind or way of thinking of a person or group." This author did a good job with presenting just that with David Horsham, Kyree Singh, and Natalie Porter and bringing in 'Money, Power, Greed, and Revenge it all becomes a matter of life and death.' It can be said that truly the way a person thinks influences his or her actions. Each one of these people have their own story one with drug trade, money and or sex. I found "Mentality" a fast pace read, with action scenes...the fight scenes were wow... something else only to read about. The characters were somewhat well developed moving the read along nicely. I will say you had to keep up with the read because you could be a little confused with the 'past' to 'present' and back and forth. "Mentality" for me was a good read for me that kept me reading till the end. This author did a good job at making the reader think about the lengths people will go to get just want they are after. The author Ceet used his magic to separate the novel into different story lines...but at the same time you are actually reading three stories at the same time. I had no problems understanding the read at all and think that this novel was a very descriptive and well written. Would I recommend? YES!
If your use to judging a book by its cover, then looking at this cover you may think something totally opposite. The cover will have you fooled by what the book is actually about.
The way a person thinks inluences their actions. For Kyree growing up in the streets was his choice of life. Raised by two successful parents who were both doctors gave Kyree opportunity to do anything he wanted but instead Kyree choose to follow a whole different path of life. Kyree choose to follow behind the foot steps of his mothers brother. Kyree instead loved the fast life and everythng that came with it which included cars, women, money and of course the women. Being the type of man he is living his lifestyle he feels that he has the power to manipulate any woman he comes across. When something occurs in his life and his whole mentality has to change he starts thinking about the way he wants his life to be. While down on his luck the important woman in his life is making sure to hold him down at all cost.
With this book you cant say to much without saying too much or giving things away so I think im going to stop while im ahead. While i did enjoy the story and the difference of the story because it was not an ordinary read BUT there where some things that confused me. Its like one moment we where in the present then we was in the present was like the past.
This is one of those books you read to get the truth about how people think. Everyone has an agenda, and some people will do anything to get by. Some people call it surviving.
Guys, if you're going to cheat on your wife don't blame your mistress for using YOU. Ladies, here's a harsh truth: 99% of guys are going to cheat on you, and the richer/more powerful they are the more likely they are to do it. Use someone and/or their money if you want, but make damned sure you have some saved up because eventually you won't be young and thin and you'll be cast aside for someone who is. In other words, do it while you can...
Guys back to you. Don't bitch and moan about "gold-diggers" if you also use women for appearances and an "exotic outlet". Also, Look up the word 'dowry'.
This is definitely a page turner. It's well written and in such a way that makes you not want to put it down. Ever watch a show and yell at the people as if they'll actually listen to you? That's how this book is written. You want to reach in and talk to the people and say 'hey, jackass, you're doing what you're not supposed to...'. Truth is, we all know people like the characters in real life. And that's the selling point of this book. Highly recommended.
I got this book for free from the author. He contacted me on GoodReads and asked if I would read and post a review for his latest book. I agreed, of course, because I love to read. The first thing that caught my attention was the font that was used. I am not used to reading a book that looked like it was typed on a typewriter. Aside from that minor issue, this book was a good read.
On the back of the book, the author defines the word Mentality. Mentality is the characteristic attitude of mind or way of thinking of a person or group of people. This book takes a look at the mentality of 3 main characters, David, Natalie, and Kyree. They are all dealing with things in their lives and it is their mentality that will determine life or death. The author did a good job of introducing and developing each of his characters. I felt emotionally invested in each one of them. A sign of a good book is one that takes you through several different emotions. I laughed, cried, and even got a little aroused at one point in the book. I also liked how the ending was one that I never would have guessed.
I would definitely recommend this book. If you can overlook the special font that was used, you are in for a real treat!
It has been a while since I've read an urban novel, so when I finally started reading this book it shocked me how quickly the sex scenes started. Outside of that it seemed pretty typical, until the author took us back 2yrs prior, but with different characters.
At first I was confused by this new twist, but about 50% thru this book I started to figure out where the multiple story lines were going. And that's when it really started getting good.
I must say though, the word mentality was used a little too much. And I kept thinking to myself how unrealistic the characters were. There were a couple things that didn't add up (timeline mainly), but its way down in the latter chapters so it would be a spoiler if mentioned.
Can you imagine a book where you don't support or hate the main characters? Well that's how I felt while and after reading it. Wrapping up my review, I gave this book 4 stars because I enjoyed the plot. The way the story came together in the end, made it for me atypical of Urban novels. I'd recommend it to my friends for a stimulating quick read.
Whelp, in the spirit of full disclosure the author sent this title to me however I will always post my honest opinion! THIS BOOK WAS DOING THE MOST!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know how I didn't see it coming but I really didn't! OK 1. I can see the points being made about each chapter being all over the map, however I didn't have any issue keeping up with the storyline! 2. The level of drama was well planned. None of these characters are "victims" and I don't feel bad for any of them. Everyone involved was cold and calculating but nobody was prepared (or at least I wasn't) for how these women reevaluated their lives, choices, and took responsiblity for them. Its not the most ethical response but its a basic human response that was believable in a wild out of this world never could have happened but you or someone you know could totally pull it off way!! Ceet I wasn't really sure where this was going but I must say I was pleasantly surprised! Bonus points for the plot twist (like it or not it was a WELL executed plan)!!!!
I am somewhat conflicted about this book. I was a little confused about how the two stories intersected until I had the out loud "HA" moment. it was literally out loud as i was discussing the book with my hairdresser and she even noticed when the light bulb finally went off. I am not sure that i would have made it obvious that the author was speaking of two different times by delineating "past" and "present" as she moved back and forth because it takes away from the final reveal.
As far as the grammar, I cannot really make a judgement call on that because the format of the book was off (my conversion program and not the author's fault) but I do know that it did not interrupt the flow for me
To a previous reviewers comments about women's revenge plots-- first it's a book if we wanted real we would watch the news. And secondly, never underestimate p'd off women.
A received a free copy of this book for an honest review. No other enumeration rec'd.
This book was provided by the author for our Books, Wine and Girl Talk group's read and review.
This book is far from what I would normally read in some ways because the write up on it didn’t do the content of the book justice for me. Even the title is something that I would have passed by in a bookstore because it is not appealing. The unfortunate part is that I would have missed out on a great read. Like all books that transition between storylines it is often hard to see how they connect or what is the purpose of the separate storylines. At first, I was confused after the first chapter when the next one starts two years previously until I caught on to what the author was trying to get at. I was very impressed at how the women in this book were portrayed. I did not finish the book feeling sorry for anyone and I did feel “YUP…this is often how she roles”. I look forward to reading other books by this author.
When I first started reading this book, I had no clue where it was going. I was determined to finish because I told the author I would give an honest review. I sat it down to get myself together and started with a fresh slate. In order to appreciate this book, a clear mind is needed. You will need to stay focused.
The characters are relatable. You learn a little about each of them and feel as if you know them personally. I commend Ceet the Author on how he intertwined these characters. This story was about betrayal and the consequences that come with it. Once things picked up, you are on the edge of your seat wondering what the next move would be. The ending will leave you wanting more.
The issues that kept me from giving a 5 star rating were the grammatical errors and the timeliness. There were a few areas I felt were drawn out. This piece definitely has the twists, plot and action needed. I look forward to reading more of this author's work.
I stood up all night to finish the book... I couldn't put it down! It was a page turner! I loved, loved, loved it!
The way it makes you think about people and their "mentality" wow!!
Talk about twists and I didn't see that one coming! How you brought it all together was brilliant!
I loved how the prey become the predator and become empowered and take control of their life. Even though some scandalous stuff has to happen!
And also the truth behind the story I loved. It takes a fictional story and makes you think about the way people are around us. You never truly know a person or their intentions. At least it made me think that. And that saying "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned" is definitely the major theme of the book!
I had read the first 3 chapters of this book on the authors website, and requested the full version in exchange for an honest review. The first 3 chapters definitely had me interested and I wondered how these totally different characters, 2 years apart, related to each other. Now, I am not going to give you a summary of the book, that's not a review but a book report. Instead I will tell you that I really liked this story. It was edgy, gritty, and pretty dark. It was about betrayal and situations that bring out the worst in other people. And there was nothing typical or expected in the outcome...I will say that this is not the best written piece of literature, but I don't read books for the writing quality - I read for the story quality, and this book has it. I will definitely check out some of this author's other books after reading this one.
This book kept me on my toes the entire time. At first I thought there were two separate stories, but then as the twists unfolded, I realized both stores were inter-connected. I felt like this book could be made into a movie. I knew something big was unfolding as I was reading, and I kept guessing as to what it was, but I was wrong every time. The women in this book were so beautifully deceptive and conniving and the men, well, all they thought about was money and sex. This story was about the control women have over men and predicting their actions if you pay close enough attention. It also emphasized that a woman scorned will ruin you. One thing I would have liked to see was the development of the relationship between Lidia and Marla. It just seemed to pop out of thin air. Other than that, I thought this book was a really good jaw dropper.k
This book turned out to be ok actually. At first I was reading it thinking what's the point, but it became clear. The book is primarily about manipulating people with sex. I would have liked the author to control the past and present parts better. At one point I thought the 2 story lines were happening simultaneously. I would have liked to have seen a real conclusion. Maybe where the women weren't as clever as they thought they were. Come to think of it maybe the author purposely omitted the time changed so you would figure out the big Aha moment before they wanted you too. If that's the case then kudos to you. A little tweeking and I think the next books by this author will be good too.
I received a free copy of this book for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. It is a quick read and definitely kept my interest! It had me thinking about the characters and their actions while I was reading it. All I can say Women are not to be messed with. Our strongest weapon is our brain. No man can ever defeat that! Bravo to the Author Ceet for nailing how conniving women can be. Its so well written, that I was actually proud of the women at the end.
Now I don't want to spoil it for those of you who have not read it, but the only thing that was crazy to me was the mother/daughter. I don't know too many mothers who would put their daughter in their business like that, but that's why it was so crazy!
What a great book this is! I only hate that I took so long to finish it. I generally don't like books that have intertwining plots, because I feel like the story lines and characters are disjointed once it all comes together at the end. BUT - this book does it very, very well. It's the kind of book that, were it a movie, I'd watch it more than once. As a matter of fact, now that I know everything going on, I'm sure that I'll be reading this again in the near future. I didn't even once consider that it would turn out the way it did, even though I had my suspicions about some of the characters early on. An excellent read with plenty of thrills.
I was ask to write an honest review. At first I was hesitant to spend my Friday evening reading a book by an author I've never heard of. I was pleasantly surprised and hooked from the first chapter. It was a definite page turner and I finish this in one sitting. The story was well developed, well written and moved at a fast pace. The story looks at the mentality of three main characters and touched on sex, money, drugs, power, greed, love, lust and murder. The end left me with the WOW factor and I can't wait to read part 2. I highly recommend this book of your looking for an enjoyable journey.
The main characters in this book are the ultimate in controlling and manipulative people. Turning the deciphering of their preys "mentality" into an art form..This story is not to be considered a fun and fuzzy love story . I was caught in the story from the beginning . I had a hard time feeling sympathetic with any of the characters... But the action and plot turns kept kept me on the edge of my seat until the last page. Lots of action and plot twists got it the 4 stars.Loved it!
I am so glad that this author sent me his book to read cause I loved it! This book held my attention from beginning to end. In fact, I kinda skipped to the end to see what was going to happen cause I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen in the end. I liked the way he started with two separate storylines but they ended up being one in the end. I am looking forward to reading other books by this author.
This book was amazing. I started reading thinking all of these people were unconnected but as you continue reading you find that all these people are connected in the least expected way. This book says a lot about how some people think and how people can surprise you with their actions.
When I started to reading the first I was really into the story line but got lost in the second chapter...starting a new couple; it was little confusing trying to keep from getting confused and having the lines blurred. I has some segregation issues. It was an interesting read..
