Wing Slayer Hunter, Ram Virtos, must find his soul mirror witch and convince her to mate with him before his Thunderbird tattoo kills him. But while that witch might be able to save Ram’s life, it is the mysterious Ginny Stone who inflames his passion.
Ginny has been deeply fascinated by Ram for months, but dared not act on it or she’d be torn from her mortal life on earth and thrust into her dreaded destiny as a half-breed angel. But when her beloved brother’s soul is at stake, she must do the one thing she both fears and desires…

Not sure how Lyon did it, but this novella has the emotional punch, deep sensuality and intricate plot of a complete novel. Please, please, please keep this series going< jennifer!! You have a big following and we love these characters. Wonderful addition.. are we going to see more angels in the future???
LOOK OUT!! Lyon Lady is back! And she's kickin' some serious butt with her first indie published Wing Slayer Hunter e-novella.
I have been a fan of the Wing Slayer Hunter series since Blood Magic was released back in February of 2009 and I've been hooked ever since. Every book has made me laugh, cry, yell out in frustration and clamor for the next release. I was devastated when I found out that the publisher did not renew the contract to publish more books and I am ecstatic that Jen decided to go the indie route. What would we do without those sexy Wing Slayer Hunters?!
Forbidden Magic is the beginning of Ram Virtos and Ginny Stone's story. It starts off right where Sinful Magic ended. Ram is having a hard time. His Thunderbird tattoo is awakening and sending surges of electricity through his body, which will eventually lead to Ram's body spontaneously combusting. The only person that can save him is his soul mirror, who has run away and went into hiding. She wants no part of Ram or becoming anyone's soul mirror. Beside his Thunderbird destroying him, the blood curse is as well. Ram doesn’t care about finding his soul mirror. The one person he wants and cares for, he can't have…..Virginia (Ginny) Stone.
Ginny is the younger sister of the newest Wing Slayer Hunter, Eli. They share the same mortal mother, but they have different fathers. While Eli's father was a Hunter like Eli, Ginny's father is a very powerful force and he wants Ginny to follow in his footsteps, whether Ginny wants to or not. He's left her in the mortal realm for now but he plans to take her with him very soon. Ginny hates her father. If she doesn't follow his rules he punishes her and threatens to harm Eli. Ginny would do anything to protect Eli, even give in to her father. That is, until she and Ram finally give in to the feelings they have for each other. Can they find away to beat her father?
I absolutely LOVED this story. Ram is a very dominant alpha male. He is known for impeccable self control, and being very dominant during sex. He never relinquishes his control to anyone. He has become completely smitten with Ginny and is scared of hurting her, so he tries to stay away from her.
Ginny is the perfect heroine. While she's very innocent in ways, she's extremely strong willed and willing to do anything for those she loves. She terrified of her father and feels hopeless that there's no way to stop him from getting his way. Can Ginny and Ram have a HEA while his soul mirror is out there somewhere, his Thunderbird is destroying him and her father is planning on taking her away?
I obviously can't give up many details in the story but you will absolutely love it. It is a short read, approximately 10 chapters but it will hold you from beginning to end. I can't wait for the next full length novel to come out. This definitely gave me my fix while I wait for the next book to release.
Simply wow - that is the best way for me to describe this e-novella. Always liked the intricate world of Lyon's Wing Slayer Hunter books, the uniqueness of it, the difference and freshness of it in the PNR books.
I sat down to read and envetually had to relocate so my husband and sons would not disrupt me, how engrossed I got in this story. I could not stop, had to hit the next page button to read until I lost all sense of time.
Lyon really twists your emotions in this story. Your heart aching for Ginny. Hatred for her father, and enjoying the interaction between her and Ram.
Do have to agree... it felt like a full-length novel in a e-novel. Which is odd for me. Usually e-novella feel way too short and way too forced. This flowed
Loved this novella. Jennifer Lyon had yet again sucked me back into the world of the Wing Slayer Hunters. I am so looking forward to what she has in store for us next. If you have not started this series you really need to put it on your TBR pile or better yet. Go buy the books and start reading now.
Full review: What do you do when the one person who can save you, runs from you? But the one person you want, the one that is always there, the one willing to do anything and everything for you just might be the only one to really save you?
This is the very problem the Ram finds himself in, in Forbidden Magic. His soul mirror witch, has deserted him, left him to deal with the curse and his demons on his own. Ram feels the pull to the one witch that can save him and his soul, but his heart has other plans. Ram’s heart belongs to someone he can never have.
Ginny knows that it is just a matter of time before she gives in to her father’s demands. But she is not in any hurry. Although being around Ram is very tempting for her to break her own rules. When Ginny’s father blackmails her and gives her no choice, by threatening the two men she cares about the most on this earth, her brother Eli and the man she is head over heels in love with Ram, Ginny finally realizes that her father has won.
Fate always seems to have a way of knowing what and who is best for you. But what happens when Fate is wrong? What happens when your heart won’t let fate win? What happens when you love the wrong person so much, it makes it is so very right?
If you want the answers to these questions you need to pick up a copy of Forbidden Magic. And see who wins, Love or Fate....
Huge thank you to Jennifer Lyon for allowing me to read Forbidden Magic early. And for totally sucking me back into the world of the Wing Slayer Hunters and reminding me of how very much I love this series. This novella took me on a wild, tortuous journey with Ram & Ginny and left me dying for more..
Full disclosure here: I love the Wing Slayers and was SO excited the Jen decided to continue the series and then to get an ARC to review :). Let's just say I was very happy.
Forbidden Magic is a novella that packs a lot of punch. Jen has been successful in giving enough information within the novella that one who hadn't read the previous books could pick it up without and not be lost. To me that is a tremendous accomplishment and will easily bring in new readers to this enjoyable series.
Since crossing Shayla (his soul mirror who has run from him in fear)Ram's Thunderbird has been awakening. He is sending out electrical shocks from his fingers. He's afraid to have sex with a woman, which would help ward off the witch blood lust, for fear he might kill her since he can't control the electric pulses. He has feelings for Ginny that he refuses to explore for fear of harming her. He tells her they can no longer be friends and she kisses him goodbye. Not much of a kiss and Ram takes control and kisses her with intent. Ram gets himself under control and leaves her.
Ginny has been keeping a secret. Her half-brother Eli is a Wing Slayer while her father is not. He has been using Ginny all her life and has demanded that she get something from Ram that he can use.
Read how Ram fights to keep Ginny safe and how Ginny will fight to save Ram.
You can't help but feel awful for these two. They are in a no win situation. Excellent fast paced read. Can't wait for more.
While you could read this as a stand alone, I don’t recommend it. Why?? Because if you haven’t read the Wing Slayer series you are truly missing out on some amazing tales that I know you will want to start from the beginning. Each book draws you into a world that is so full of emotion and adventure that as soon as you finish the first book you will immediately want to start the next until you reach the last page of FORBIDDEN MAGIC.
Wanting no part of him, Ram’s soul mirror has fled into hiding while he suffers with the awaking of his thunderbird. While his mind knows that finding the other half to his soul through his mate is his only chance to live, his heart can only ache to be with the only one he truly loves and can’t have, Ginny. Willing to do anything to save her brother from the hands of her father, Ginny agrees to do whatever it takes to keep Eli safe, even if it compromises hers. A powerful force demanding his daughter ascend and then drain all her emotions to him, Ginny won’t risk what will happen to Eli if she doesn’t comply. Wishing she could fill the other half of Ram’s soul the way he fills her heart, yet knowing it was never meant to be, Ginny knows she has completed her earthly training for her cruel father with the final emotion, heartbreak.
Forbidden Magic- Forbidden is the love you feel for someone who is not your soul mirror but your soul knows is the person for you. From the beginning of the Wing Slayer Hunter series I have felt that if given the smallest nudge that Ram’s impressive control and strength would waver and that is what happens when Ginny sets out to seduce him. It didn’t take long for Ram to figure out that Ginny was not a mortal woman but it took less of time for him to realize he wanted her more than anything ever in his life. For Ram at his breaking point, age difference, be damned, Eli, her brother & a Wing Slayer Hunter be damned, him having a soul mirror out there be damned, all Ram wants is to love Ginny and have her love him back. He feels the bloodlust coming full force with the awakening of his thunderbird. Knowing he has a soul mirror witch running from him just pisses him off; with the only light at the end of tunnel is his love for Ginny. He will do anything and everything to protect what he considers his, and Ginny is his, no matter what her father says or does. Hot, Sexy, Emotional, Heartbreaking, & Fantastic are just a few words I would use to describe this novella & this series.
The Wing Slayer Hunters (WSH), to me, is one of those highly under-rated series. I was a late comer to the books and I must admit to falling really hard, really quickly.
In this installment we pick up right where Sinful Magic leaves off. Ram is tormented, his Thunderbird tattoo is awakening and he is struggling with his attraction Ginny and his need to hunt down Shayla, his soul-mirror, and kill her - even though he know's she's the key to ending his curse.
Jennifer Lyon is one talented lady, she really knows how to wield a pen to drag you into her world and not let you go until the very end and even then your begging for more! I loved this novella, the emotions just poured off the page and I loved the growing attraction between Ram & Ginny. You could feel their torment as they tried to stay apart and fight their growing attraction, knowing their destinies lie elsewhere but being unable to deny their feelings. I cheered, I laughed, I held my breath and ok there might have been some heart wrenching pleas as I begged them not to give up...
Love the Wing Slayer Hunter series..It has always been one of my favorite! I have been waiting for Ram's story for what seems like forever! I applaud Jennifer for making such a strong character, on the outside he is RAM, tough, secretive, forced to be HARD, due to his military upbringing...a man who has struggled, yet conquered his life's trials and tribulations...and on the inside he wants basically what everyone wants...his Soul Mirror...enter Ginny and thank the Wing Slayer for her! Although she might drive Ram crazy, she is the one who makes him WHOLE in the end! This is a definate MUST READ, and if you havent read the whole series....you have no idea what you are missing...Jennifer Lyon ROCKS!
Ram who is part of the Wing Slayer's stumbles accidentally upon his soul mirror in the previous book waking up the bond to mate. Unfortunately or fortunately depending on how you see it its good and bad. To me I think its bad. Things may have gone smoother had he not stumbled up her her. Leaving him to be able to pursue the love of his life, Ginny. My heart broke for Ram the pain he is going through and the past he relives. He can have her but he can't. His Thunderbird is slowly killing him do to the love he has for Ginny rather than his soul mate Shayla. Shocking everything this his hands touch. Each time he makes love to Ginny the angrier his bird is.
Ginny. She falls for Ram the moment she sees him in Vegas. No one know what she really is but Ram had always sensed it within her but could never pin point it. Her father threatened her brother Eli's life in order for him to get what he wants. In doing so putting Ram in the path that could lead to ruining both their lives.
Everything that happened in this book the trials in just a short amount of time. It made my heart break. The tension between Ram and Ginny was undeniably hot. They were truly made for each other even if she is not his soul mate. Jennifer truly brings you into this story. Really makes you feel what the character's are going through. I believe this is the most trying story out of the books yet. The sad thing is that it's not finished. Jennifer leaves us off on a major cliff hanger. My jaw hit the floor. All that was screaming in my head was really?! OMG what happens? What will Shayla think? Will Ram die? When will Ginny's father come to take her again? It was left wide open. I can't wait for the next book because I really hope we hear more about the task of finding Shayla and how Ram and Ginny end up.
Thank you Jennifer for another wonderful installment of this series.

Title: Forbidden Magic (A Wing Slayer Hunter E-Novella) Author: Jennifer Lyon Page count: 161 Genre: Paranormal Romance. My rating: 5/5 Publisher: Who knows Summery:Wing Slayer Hunter, Ram Virtos, must find his soul mirror witch and convince her to mate with him before his Thunderbird tattoo kills him. But when her beloved brother’s soul is at stake, she must do the one thing she both fears and desires… Take Ram to her bed.
My Thoughts: So I got the lucky chance to read this ARC and I gotta say wooo! This is the first real book I've read by Jennifer Lyon. I love books that you can start reading from any point and I'm thinking this is one, if not you may laugh at me. I loved the characters and hated other, mainly the bad people. ;) I can now say I'm a Wing Slayer fan and you should try becoming one if you're not. :D
The review: I fell in love from the first page to the final page. The cover is beautiful and amazing. Ginny is a strong willed female character and Ram is searching for answers just not in the right place. I loved how the emotions were strong and easy to see and feel. When one of them was hurt you could feel the pain of not only the main character, but also the characters around them. It was easy to connect mean/angry/grrr feeling for the bad guys or father because by the end I wanted to attack them like a cat attacks a bird. Lovely image right?
I am so glad the Wing Slayer Hunter series is being continued. Forbidden Magic did not read like a novella, it had the characteristics of a full length novel. It was complex and intricate. I can’t say I really payed much attention to Ram in the earlier books, Axel was my previous favorite. But he really pulled a sucker punch with his and Ginny’s story. I’m hoping we see more because their story ends with a cliff hanger.
Ginny is a girl after my own heart. She’s innocent, but knows what she wants. She will do anything to get it. And I mean anything. She loves deeply and fiercely. Ginny going into the relationship that is doomed from the start and knowing it, shows how strong she is.
Ram is fighting his attraction to Ginny from the start, which is admirable. She’s younger and innocent and he doesn’t want to hurt her. But he can only fight the attraction so long. He’s dominant and irresistible. I can’t wait to see what his bird has in store for him.
I could go into more detail, but I don’t want to spoil it for those who haven’t read it yet. All I can say is I love, love, love this book. I want to say it was better than the others, but maybe that’s just because Ginny and Ram were a little more intense.
Ramsey Virtos needs one thing. He just doesn't want to go and find it. He walks into the clue and sees Ginny Stone. She is beautiful, but too young for him. He works with her brother, they are Wing Slayer Hunter. When she is playing around and ask for a kiss, she doesn't know what she released. He wants her like he has never wanted anyone before. He tells that that they can't even be friends now, it will be too hard. Two months later and Ginny can still feel Ram's lips on hers. Too bad she can never be with him, not the way she wants to be at least. If she gives into her needs then she will lose a way to feel her emotions. When Ginny's father tells her that she has to give into Ramsey or he will take her brother's soul. She goes to Ramsey, and tells him that him that she need him. After they are together strange things start to happen with him. They seek out a witch to see if she can find out what is going on. I love this book! It will keep you on the edge of your seat wanting to know what is going to happen! Ginny is so sweet and innocent, she'll make you root for her. I couldn't put this book done, it kept calling to me! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book!!
I'm so very glad my GR friend gave me a heads up on this story. Not sure how to express what I'm thinking. I'm sure the author had her reasons for this novella with a cliffhanger, because it could have just waited for Ram's story which I know is coming.
Also, I think this story was a lead in for another series. Not too thrilled with a series of dirty rotten mean Angels. But, I would have never thought I'd be reading about vampires, werewolves, and guardians. So, who knows I'll probably love the series.
This was the first series that I fell in love with. When I read Blood Magic I had to have more of the Wing Slayers!! So good for Jennifer Lyon to keep continuing the series on her own! She knows what her readers want! Can't wait for this to come out!
Doing the review of FORBIDDEN MAGIC I once again find myself captivated by Jennifer Lyons' magic. A book which brings the familiarity of the Wing Slayer Hunters but with new breathtaking concepts, plots, sentiments and magic leaving us with the urge for more!!! It's a MUST read!!!!Jen you rock!!!
I last read this book in 2012, when it ws first published. It was my utter delight to enjoy it again during my reread of the re-released series in preparation for reading the newest book in the series, CAGED MAGIC. This is still a star-crossed lovers romance that breaks my heart. Still...there's hope. One of my favorites in the series, though my original thoughts are still true. Still a full 5 stars!
Original review: When I learned the publisher discontinued this award-winning series, I was heartbroken. Jennifer Lyon had created a rich, multi-layered world and mythos with her Wing Slayer Hunters and the earth witches they were sworn to protect, despite the curse that split them apart. From the first book, BLOOD MOON, I have eagerly awaited every release, dropped everything and stayed up all night to read each book as it arrived. To say I'm thrilled Ms. Lyon has decided to keep the series alive by self-publishing is an understatement. This ebook novella is a quality addition to the series.
This novella wasn't long enough to suit me because I want the whole story for Ram and Ginny. That said, the story is more than enough to make me a happy reader. Full of tension--the sexy kind AND the action kind--and emotion, this novella is a most satisfying read. Lyon sucks the reader in, grabs the reader by the throat, gives a good shake just because, and then releases her hold, leaving the reader with a sense of both fulfillment AND anticipation.
Ram Vitros has appeared in other WSH books and quickly became a fan favorite. We've all been waiting for his story. Wow. Just wow...talk about a gut punch! I could not put it down. And once I finished, I sat stunned and definitely wanting more. This sums up the whole story:
WHEN THE ONE YOU NEED ISN'T THE ONE YOU WANT... AND THE ONE WANT YOU WANT CAN NEVER BE YOURS.
I highly recommend all of the Wing Slayer Hunter books. In fact, I recommend them so highly I have both digital copies (for my Kindle Fire) and paper copies for my keeper shelf. I can't wait for the next entry in the series, Linc's story: CAGE MAGIC.
The Wing Slayer Hunters series has fast become a new paranormal romance favorite of mine!
Ram Virtos can’t help but be attracted to his fellow wing slayer hunter’s sister, Ginny. From the moment he met her he admired her strength and was drawn to the glow that seems to surround her. But Ram knows that Ginny is not his and it would be unfair to pursue anything with her. Fate has handed him a different deck of cards with an infertility witch as a soul mirror who wants nothing to do with him and ran the first chance she got. Now Ram must deal with the curse of the bloodlust on his own with his thunderbird tattoo coming to life and being none too happy about it. Ginny has been drawn to Ram since the moment she first saw him but she can never give into her feelings, for if she does, her and her brother Eli both will have to leave everything they know. When her angelic father threatens the only two men she has ever loved though, Ginny must face her feelings and seduce Ram in order to save him, even if that means ultimately losing him in the end.
Forbidden Magic is a tremulous journey of an impossible love between two people that were never meant to be together. Each destined for someone and something else neither can help how their hearts feel. This story is an emotional punch to the gut and I couldn’t help but root Ram and Ginny on, praying for a solution to their seemingly hopeless situation. Can love beat fate? This is only the beginning of their story and I can’t wait to see where it leads next; will Ram catch up to his soul mirror? Or will his bird kill him before he has the chance? Will Ginny ascend? Or can they find a way to keep her and Eli here on earth? Do Ram and Ginny even have a chance at this love?
Forbidden Magic was a compelling novella with charismatic characters full of tension, suspense and sensuality and I can’t wait to read more from this superb series!
I must confess that I am a huge fan of the Wing Slayer world that Jennifer Lyon has created. After reading Sinful Magic and falling in love with Kieren “Key” DeMicca, I was sad to hear that the series may end. When I read that Jennifer Lyon was going to self publish the next story I was ecstatic. I have literally invested emotional energy on these characters and wanted to read more stories.
Forbidden Magic is a novella but it doesn’t feel like one. Many times when you read novellas, the story seems rushed and a happy ending appears too quickly. I felt like this was a complete story and I felt the same connection to this book as I did with the longer novels.
I loved Ram’s story. Not only was I on an emotional roller coaster throughout the book, I found myself pulling for Ram and Ginny!
I highly recommend the Wing Slayer series and I give Forbidden Magic 5 stars!
How have I never read this series? Where have I been, under a rock? Well, I have now emerged and find myself totally in love with Ram. Ram is an Alpha male who likes to always be in control. So when he finds his self caught between needing to find his soul mirror and his deep desire for Ginny, what is he to do? Add to that Ginny's sadistic father and his thunderbird trying to destroy him....Will Ram and Ginny find a way to overcome these obstacles?
This is one of those books you just can't put down. I rate this book up there with J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood and Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunters! And if you know me, that is saying alot. Can't wait to read more from Jennifer Lyon!
Ram knows his soul mirror is out there, on the run from him, but the one he wants is Ginny. She´s got a lot of secrets of her own, about her heritage and the future she´s trying to fight. An impossible love story where they decide to fight for each other. Loved it, the only thing i´m not liking is the **SPOILER ALERT** unresolved ending, but since this is a novella i´m hoping for their HEA in the next book in the series. **SPOILER ALERT** Angels, wing slayer hunters and fluffy smut, i´ll def. be reading the rest of the series.
I won this ARC on Facebook in return for my honest review.
A short but exhilerating read! I want more of Ram and Ginny!! Fingers crossed that Ram will be able to control the Thunderbird sending volts of electricity through his fingers and harness the power to destry Ginny's horrible father. It does seem like their love could be destroyed if he doesn't find his soul mirror and break his own curse while battling an old and powerful angel. I can't wait for the next book!!
Loved this e-novella. Fast paced and hugely packed. The romance in it is amazing. Also Jennifer gives us greater insight on these two loveable characters. She's made me fall in love with them and want to see thei HEA. Amazing writing. I highly recommend the series.
Wow. Just wow. If you've read any of the other Wing Slayer Hunter novels, you have to read this. And if you haven't read the others? Well, why the hell not?
