This book repeats counting 1, 2 through various animals as you journey through the Zoo. Penguins, monkeys, giraffes and elephants are the animals you will visit. Flaps that open to the right, to the top and even a double flap unfold. The unique flaps and wonderful illustrations will fast become family favorites. The book will work on counting, animal identification and dexterity. It is a great book that children love and will ask for many times over.

This is a cute children's/beginner book with animals, minimal counting (it repeats one and two for each page span), and cute flaps or pop-ups to keep little ones entertained. By far the best animal reveal is the elephants. Doesn't hurt that it starts out with penguins, which have been a favorite for both of my children from the start. The downside is that by the end of the book with the "at the zoo" line, they want to actually go to the zoo, which is not always possible.

I'd *almost* give this four stars based on the elephant fold-out, but the glorification of zoos (or, as I like to call it, "Cagelandia") is a bit of a turn off. I like that the counting keeps ending at 2, though; that's just about my speed for counting right now.
