In the beginning they wanted two things, lasting love and to win the Kentucky Derby. But life takes odd and sometimes terrible turns. Twenty-six-year-old Annika has it beauty, money, a great career, and a wealthy husband who seems to adore her, or perhaps obsesses over her, might be a better description. She sacrifices everything to escape. Now her husband wants his sex slave back, or he wants her dead; either one will do. Annika is running for her life when she encounters Ray O'Brien, the man she once loved with all her heart, and the man she holds responsible for a terrible deed. He seems to have it all, including a Derby contender. Now Annika has a frightening choice to make. Does she let Ray just walk away, or does she sacrifice her own hard won freedom in order to get revenge?
A very entertaining story. Reminds me of books by Joan Collins and Sidney Sheldon. I was engaged from beginning to end. I like the twists and turns of the story. Not predictable at all. I would highly recommend this book.
It is so rare that I give a 1-star that I can't remember when I have. I mostly rate a 2 if I truly do not like a book and a 3 if it is just ok. I thought this was going to be a romantic thriller as advertised. I don't know what this was supposed to be. Too simplistic, no depth, all story lines conveniently arranged or resolved. For the issues or situations these characters faced, the author had opportunity to develop them and pull the reader into the characters - to invest in them, to care about them. Instead, we get "oh, I'm being pursued by a serial killer so I will sit here and remember my first love" or "I hate this woman, she abandoned our child, but I can't help pulling her into my arms and kissing her." I finished, but I should have DNF'd. Characters, thoughts and situations - unbelievable.
Loved this book! I couldn't put it down. I love books that have a lot going on and don't leave me bored. This book has it all, love, lust, suspense and thrill!
