Maj Lindman (Mrs. Maj Lindman-Hulten) lived in Stockholm, Sweden. She attended the Royal Academy of Arts in Stockholm, and also studied art in Paris, France. She wrote and illustrated numerous children's books, but she is best known for her delightful tales of triplet girls Flicka, Dicka and Ricka and their boy counterparts, Snipp, Snapp and Snurr.
When Mother is away, there’s no time wasted for the industrious Snipp, Snapp, and Snurr as they promptly decide to plan a big surprise for her homecoming. With diligence and care, they work hard to accomplish all that needs to be done and ensure that the surprise will be ready in time.
Another reviewer described this as cozy and homey and that is exactly it. The stories are simple, good-natured, and down-to-earth and reflect the love, kindness, and respect of a happy family.
I love Snipp, Snapp, and Snurr. This time, the three boys are eager to give a wonderful surprise to Mother when she returns from a trip. They get the idea to give her a chair but have no money so they ask the tradesmen in town if they can do some work for them in exchange for the material and craftsmanship needed to create the chair. I love their giving nature and eagerness to do real work. It's also wonderful for children today to see how furniture was once made only by hand.
We are all really enjoying Maj Lindman's books (either about Snipp, Snapp, and Snurr OR Flicka, Ricka, and Dicka). This book was about the boys planning and carrying out the hard work to prepare a surprise for their mother while she was traveling for the week. The end of the book shows them all sitting together in front of the fire: cozy and homey.
I swear I read, Snipp, Snapp and Snurr clean a chimney, but maybe that was part of one of the books. If they weren't actually Flicka, Ricka and Dicka's cousins, I assumed they were.
