How Not to Date a Vamp

Rate this book
When you’re a vampire, nothing about dating is easy.

What do you get when your greatest strength lies in not dying easy? If you are lucky and no one confuses you with a pop culture vampire, and if you diet and exercise to keep your weight down, you just might get the girl. But first you have to avoid the hunters on your trail, the cost of replacing your clothing, and get over your phobia about wood.

Only if he overcomes these obstacles will Virgil spend the better part of his afterlife with Barb. If he can survive dating.

I had a hard time getting into this story. I just didn't care about the characters. It was a bit comedy of errors, which was fun. And there was some snarky banter, which was also fun. But beyond that, I didn't really care about the story. I wasn't invested in Barb or Virgil at all. It would probably make a funny movie, but as a book, this was not anything I could bring myself to care about. I didn't dislike it. I didn't find it to be poorly written. I'm more indifferent than anything. I hope you have better luck!

This was so funny! 😆 Burke does it again with this installment of the 'How Not to' series. Here she introduces us to a vampire that is wholly different from the typical vampire that pop culture has given us. Virgil is short, poor, doesn't have exceptional powers, and is pretty much described as a nerd. That doesn't stop lounge singer Barb from falling for his gentleman ways. Unfortunately, there are forces at work that would like to get rid of the nerdy vampire. Funny antics ensue that lead up to a very steamy 🔞 scene. I honestly love this series and can depend on it for the laughs 😃.

Virgil isn’t your typical rich and handsome vampire. As he was in life, his is also in death. When Virgil happens upon Barb, it was insta-attraction. I was engaged in the story of Virgil and Barb’s relationship. They clicked from the very first time they laid eyes on one another. The author did a wonderful job developing their relationship in a manner fitting for the short length of the book. Blair’s character cracks me up. Blair’s interactions with Barb, Macey, and Virgil kept me well entertained. In fact, the entire story kept me entertained.

How Not to Date a Vamp is another great book in the How Not To series by Stephanie Burke. The story is unique, has a fun plot, and includes likeable main and secondary characters. I enjoyed this fun paranormal romance.
