Excellent historical novel with thrilling characters and multiple settings with sweeping epic feel around a small love story that broke my heart.

Pedantic predictable plot. Characters are contrived and not realistic. No one really cares what happens to them. Historic battles are limited to a few pages; come on WW1 described in less than 5 pages. Ms. Malcolm has written a sequel to this book, really?
Will I read it? Quess??????????

The story was a bit unbelievable and the writing was a bit sophomoric but I got what I wanted - a quick entertaining read that I couldn't put down.

I enjoyed this as casual entertainment, although if you can't put the book down, is it really? I can't wait for the next one.
