Living above her stepfather's fish and chip shop on Merseyside's Paradise Parade, Emily Barr is glad to escape to the relative peace of her job in Wythenshaw's jewellery factory. And when she is promoted to work for young Mr Giles, the son of the owner, she is the envy of all her workmates. What a catch he would be!
Much to her surprise, Emily finds the eligible Giles is trying to woo her, and when he proposes she willingly accepts. But Giles is not the suitable suitor he appears to be and Emily soon discovers that the marriage isn't quite what she'd hoped for...
Anne Baker trained as a nurse in England, but after her marriage lived in Libya and Nigeria before returning to Birkenhead, where she worked as a health visitor. She now lives with her husband in Merseyside.
This is the first book I've read by Anne Baker. I couldn't put it down. It held me from start to finish . its a story of love and hate spanning over a few years. There are two main ladies in the story who fell in love with the same man. This man's father also fell in love with one of the women, its a tangle of love, hate, as the relationships develop and pan out. A must read.
I enjoyed reading this book because it kept my interest through the whole time. Was always waiting for Giles to get caught or Jeremy to find out the truth or if Sylveen was going to fess up. Would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a good clean romance with many twists.
What a wonderful read I couldn't put it down ,so we'll written ,I thought I was there in the FISH AND CHIP SHOP watching EMILY and when she was at CHURTON .I followed her all the way through the book ,the way her life panned out .Thank you so much I really enjoyed you book .Please keep writing .GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS .
Wonderful book. Kept my internet the entire book - could not wait to get back to it when I had to stop . The story line was excellent! Would recommend for a pleasant fulfilling read.
Good storyline, will purchase more from this author
I was pleasantly surprised, the storyline was easy to follow, not to rambling. I enjoy this type of fiction,a pleasant detour from the mysteries I usually read.
The characters are so vivid that the reader attaches to each one and imagines what will happen. The story is not predictable and there are surprises around every corner.
A great tale of love, greed, deceit and poverty. Emily, the main character goes from rags to riches and back again, while Giles is certainly a piece of work, selfish and a complete waste of space. Well worth a read.
Ms Baker again kept me turning pages...Emily Jeremy Goes Sylveen...I could almost Smell the fish and Chips... And could almost see the Jewels and art..
I thought this was something different when I started it, much much more romance than I prefer, but when I got into it I wanted to finish it. Come to think of it, it's sort of a Cinderella story, but the "prince" may not be the happy ever after our heroine deserves.
