This book includes important historical background information about the origins of the standards based curriculum movement. Unfortunately, many of the recommendations are old enough to be considered poor practice today. For instance, suggesting that districts poll residents to determine which standards are the most important. While I'm sure that community involvement has a place in the curriculum process, the results from a similar survey included in the book were not promising for this avenue. Overall, an interesting read, but mostly as a snapshot in time of how we got to the curriculum and standards we have today.
