Summary: While Anna is eating breakfast one morning, a little green dragon climbs out of her cereal box. When the little dragon starts making a mess, Anna becomes upset. But just as Anna and the dragon start to have some fun, Anna's mom walks in and scolds Anna for the mess. But Anna's mom has a surprise of her own.

Critique: This story is short and simple. Some readers may feel bored by this, but the story is still cute and light hearted, making it a joy to read.

Teacher Prompts: On page 3, ask students why they think the box is shaking. On page 27, Anna's mom opens the door and becomes very pale (Baumgart, 1992). Ask students what they think Anna's mom sees.

Craft Elements: The author uses a lot of adjectives. For example on page 1, the author doesn't just say Anna is sitting at the breakfast table, she says Anna is sitting sleepily and she doesn't just say that anna is putting marmalade on her toast, she says Anna is putting a thick layer of marmalade on her toast. Have students edit a piece of writing by adding adjectives.
