Cursing the Church or Helping It?: Exposing the Spirit of Balaam

There is an epidemic going on in the Church today. Many Christians hold on to offenses and maintain a “me first” attitude. In this last season, we must learn how to have compassion, truly love each other, and become one as the Body of Christ. Anna Aquino’s book seeks to open our eyes, soften our hearts, and move us to extend blessings to one another as we come together in unity. This book will help heal the hearts of people—both in the Church and in the world—who have been hurt by the spirit of Balaam. You Anna Aquino writes, “We in the church need to wake up, have compassion, and start loving the hell out of each other. The spirit of Balaam is moving through the churches at a rapid pace. It’s up to us as the Church to stop it.”

If you are a Christian, you have to know that the state of the American church is in utter chaos. The world doesn't trust or like Christians and we treat each other (and everyone else) like crap. The "holier than thou" attitude is rampant. Anna's book is about how to get rid of all those vile things that keep us from doing the work of God. The book's message is simple: if the church can unite and get rid of all the internal strife, we will be powerful and can really preach and show the will of God. A powerful message that really needs to be heard. The book is not long and I love that everything is backed up with scripture. There were plenty of real life examples from the author's own life as well.

The content is solid and my critiques are more about the actual writing style. The writing style is very easy to understand. It doesn't go into a lot of deep theology that would lose the average person. There was just something about the writing style for the first couple of chapters (and it may have been the way the book is formatted on the Kindle) that seemed disjointed. Also, except for comparison's sake, I wish the Bible versions had stayed consistent. It threw me off that in one chapter one version would be quoted and in another a different version would be quoted. Still those are just little things that don't distract from the great message of the book.
