Als hij onderweg stopt in een supermarkt voor een doosje aspirines, ziet Peter Howard een klein bang meisje dat toegesnauwd wordt door haar 'vader'. Deze man noemt haar Alice. Als de man zich een beetje verwijdert, vraagt hij het kind of alles ok is en hoe ze heet. Ze zegt: 'Mijn echte naam is Lisa'.
Peter volgt de man en Lisa met de wagen en ziet hoe deze het meisje ruw behandelt, en hij weet nu dat er iets goed fout is. Hij kan de man overmeesteren en met het meisje ontsnappen. Hij komt te weten dat ze ontvoerd is, maar gelukkig weet het kind haar adres...maar niet de staat waar ze woont, zoals later blijkt.
Peter Howard is vastbesloten haar thuis te brengen, maar wat hij eerst dacht dat een ritje van een paar uur zou zijn, blijkt hem door een groot deel van de VS te brengen. Een zeer hachelijke onderneming, want de ontvoerders zitten hem op de hielen, en ze deinzen voor niets terug.
Het hele verhaal gaat dus eigenlijk over deze tocht om Lisa te herenigen met haar ouders.
Spannend verhaal, maar wel wat veel geweld vond ik. Toch kon ik eigenlijk bijna niet wachten om te weten hoe het zou aflopen.

Wauw wauw wauw!
Een boek met een spanningsboog van het begin tot op het einde. Ondanks dat dit al een vrij oud boek is, vond ik dit echt fantastisch spannend en super goed geschreven!
Ik kon er geen genoeg van krijgen en was altijd zo gedreven op te blijven lezen om meer te weten te komen, er waren echt veel hoog-spanningspunten in dit boek.

Echt van genoten en een enorme aanrader als je van een boek met veel spanning houdt!

Vanaf 2003 publiceert hij onder het pseudoniem, David Grace om verwarring met andere auteurs met dezelfde naam te voorkomen. De filmrechten voor ‘Mijn echte naam is Lisa’ zijn verkocht voor een twee uur durende tv-film, maar vanwege casting problemen werd het project beëindigd. David Alexander woont in Palo Alto, Californië.

Zakenman ontmoet Lisa/Alice in een supermarkt en merkt dat er iets niet klopt.

Without giving away too much of the book, My Real Name is Lisa, is about a multi-millionaire who notices a small girl who tells him her real name is Lisa. Upon knowing something isn't quite right, he follows the girl and her father, ending up getting the child away from this man.

The story revolves around the trip ride home that Peter (the multi millionaire) has promised to Lisa. Lisa was kidnapped on her front lawn while playing with her two friends. On the way, they run into some shady characters as well as those who are genuinely trying to help them. Although it just wouldn't be a story without the kidnapper trying to get Lisa back.

Of course, this story would have been over in the first 3 chapters if Peter had been sensible and turned the girl over to the police. That wouldn't really make David Alexander an author of a novel, but of a short story, lol!

I was intrigued by this story with the plot. It had no romance in it whatsoever, but the author likes painting the landscape with his words. Many times throughout the book, if they were driving along some desolate highway, he would take at least a page, to describe what was going by in the scenery. With those pages, I just skimmed.

I would have given this book 5 stars, however I just couldn't due to the amount of violence and foul language.I realize with the subject matter you couldn't make it just a feel good book.
The story begins when a young girl is abducted while playing with friends in her front yard.
Then it fast forwards to almost a year later when a young executive on the way to an appointment stops at a store for aspirin for his headache. He sees the little girl with a man and just knows things aren't right. He hesitates for just a second not wanting to get involved. But also knows he has to do something. He is able to get the girl away from the kidnapper and promises to take her home. Over the next few days they encounter all sorts of people, some good, some bad, and even the kidnappers. This is a real nail bitter.Sometimes you just want to shake the guy and tell him just turn her over to the police.But then we wouldn't have a story would we. It is also a very sweet story of a real bond that forms between the girl and the man who rescues her.

This is a 3 1/2 star book for me. I liked the characters. I liked the plot, though it was predictable as much as exciting. There were a few unexpected twists. I had to leave the book at home so I would not be tempted to see what happens next instead of getting my work done at school. :) Bottom line: it was a fun, easy page-turner, but with some unsavory topics and violence. No bad language though.

This is a heart wrenching story that makes me very paranoid as a parent. I of course love the aspect of the knight in shinning armor that risks all to help this little girl. It was written wonderfully, keeping me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't wait to see how the bad guys get it in the end...Or do they?

Een aardige thriller om vlug tussendoor te lezen.
Best wel spannend, maar op een gegeven moment had ik zoiets, wat kan je nog meer verzinnen om het boek te rekken.
Dit was rond 2/3 van het boek.
Het heft in eigen handen nemen vond ik in deze ongeloofwaardig.

Ik vond dit echt een geweldig boek! Soms een beetje te veel in detail, vooral dan over de plaatsen waar ze kwamen
maar heb dit niet als storend ondervonden. Het boek leest als een trein, heeft een voorspellend einde maar ook dat
stoorde me niet, ik ben echt fan.

I first read this in 1997 when it won the "readers choice" at our local library. Read it again to see if it was as good as I remebered. It was.
