War, what is it good for? Yes, it's about war. Or rather: humans doing terribly inhumane things. Vietnam, Bosnia, Rwanda, Chechnya, etc. "Etc." That's what the title means.
War will usually put me off books and movies, but I trusted Johan Harstad, and he didn't let me down. It's written as a play, but I can't imagine that being in earnest, and I take it more as a novel. It's a movie novel. I feel as if I've watched a long, satisfying movie. It didn't make me weep or join Amnesty, but I really enjoyed the format and it was very good. It reads very quickly.
One thing I didn't like: there's this weird feeling that you're actually reading a translation, as if it was originally written in English and then translated back into Norwegian. It doesn't feel like a Norwegian book at all. Good or bad, it might also be subjective on my part given that all the protagonists in the "movie" are Americans.
