How do you complete the sentence, "I believe in...?" That statement is your religion, which shapes your loves, ideals, behavior, and goals. But look out! Sproul evaluates the only two foundations for favorite-flavor-ice-cream truth (one religion is as good as another, so pick one that works for you) and jelly-bean-total truth (only one ultimate truth can fit you into the reality that really is real). These are the options. In Choosing My Religion you'll find help in arriving at sound answers to life's big questions.

Dr. R.C. Sproul (1939–2017) was founder of Ligonier Ministries, an international Christian discipleship organization located near Orlando, Fla. He was founding pastor of Saint Andrew’s Chapel in Sanford, Fla., first president of Reformation Bible College, and executive editor of Tabletalk magazine.

Ligonier Ministries began in 1971 as the Ligonier Valley Study Center in Ligonier, Pa. In an effort to respond more effectively to the growing demand for Dr. Sproul’s teachings and the ministry’s other educational resources, the general offices were moved to Orlando in 1984, and the ministry was renamed.

Dr. Sproul’s radio program, Renewing Your Mind, is still broadcast daily on hundreds of radio stations around the world and can also be heard online. Dr. Sproul produced hundreds of lecture series and recorded numerous video series on subjects such as the history of philosophy, theology, Bible study, apologetics, and Christian living.

He contributed dozens of articles to national evangelical publications, spoke at conferences, churches, and academic institutions around the world, and wrote more than one hundred books, including The Holiness of God, Chosen by God, and Everyone’s a Theologian. He signed the 1978 Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy and wrote a commentary on that document. He also served as general editor of the Reformation Study Bible, previously known as the New Geneva Study Bible.

Dr. Sproul had a distinguished academic teaching career at various colleges and seminaries, including Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando and Jackson, Miss. He was ordained as a teaching elder in the Presbyterian Church in America.

"God will never stop being holy just to save you."

So many impactful lines from R.C Sproul in this book that made me smile, chuckle and even shed a tear. Sproul truly understands the depravity of the sin condition of man, the lie of relativity, and the importance of God's holiness. He teaches with such vigour and power that the joy of being the prodigal son come home is transformative in the Spirit.

This is not my favorite read from R.C. Sproul. The title does not fulfill the promise of learning to choose a religion, the different types of religions available, and why Christianity exceeds all others. The content does provide every man's need for a Savior and how a person comes to saving knowledge of Christ, but it jumps around and doesn't seem cohesive.

An excellent challenge of what you believe and why you believe it - I have always liked the story of the prodigal son and R C Sproul does not disappoint in his interpretation of the story - so much depth making you think about God in a way you never have before

Very good book overall, Sproul first tackles the issue of post modernism/ relativism and then moves straight to the Gospel through the parable of the prodigal son.

Would recommend 5/5.

Sproul walks though the basics of the Christian Gospel, using the story of the Prodigal Son as a guide. Doctrine-wise, the book is strong and very good as you would expect from Sproul. But I found it to have other issues.

It's hard to give a Sproul book such a low rating, but I did so because the writing style is really distracting--it might have been less so if this was how Sproul usually communicated (a la William Willimon or something) , but it isn't.

This book is geared to a younger audience, teenage and college, and makes a strong effort to connect to these ages, however a) I found his style used for connecting to be distracting. In one sense, someone could say to me 'who cares, you aren't the intended audience anyway.' And this is a fair point. But that leads to the other problem which is b) the colloquialisms and expressions he uses to connect to teenagers strike me as dated (CD players are old news), or not especially savory. For example, there are a few places that in the face of skeptical inquiry he responds "Are you nuts?" And in a couple spots, he refers to unbelief as being "brain dead" which I'm sure teenagers don't enjoy being called (even if it is true that by nature we are dead in trespasses and sins).

I really appreciate pastors and teachers who work hard to connect to their audience, especially teenagers and children, as they are often overlooked in Church. MORE connecting by pastors to these age groups needs to happen in confessionally Reformed churches. But this book just came across as trying too hard to appear to be in touch with teenage culture.

But who knows? I'm not a teenager anymore, so maybe I'm just not 'with it' enough to see the value of this style (though I am 'with it' enough to know this too is a dated expression.)
