The second edition of Richard Straub's "Health Psychology" explores the psychology behind why we get sick, how we stay well, how we react to illness and how we relate to the health care system and health care providers. "Health Psychology" features superior coverage of major trends in the field, including the mind-body connection, alternative medicine, cross-cultural interactions, women's health and health across the lifespan. "Health Psychology" also emphasizes critical thinking and real-world applications.
From what I read of it--and it wasn't all 700 pages--I really enjoyed this and wish I had had more time to dedicate to a close read of it along with taking notes. Straub addresses sex and race disparities in a way that is not typical of your average white male in the realm of psychology, which was refreshing. I appreciated that he and his colleagues also explained more intricate biomedical concepts accessibly.
