The first book to be contracted in Decadent Publishing newest line: Honor Guard. Honor Guard showcases me in the military or other government agencies such as FBI, ATF, and CIA. They are also Alpha males–who know exactly what they want, and let nothing stop them.
Blurb:
Eva can’t believe Joseph dares to show his face to her after he’d cheated on her with a stripper—in her bed. She’d kicked him out, and has no desire to let him back in, despite his claims of being assigned to protect her from the Cartel. Her life very well may be in danger, but she fears more for the safety of her heart.
Joseph made one foolish mistake a year ago, and has been paying for it ever since. She might not want to allow him into her life again, but he doesn’t care if she despises the very thought of him. His duty is to keep Eva alive, even if it might end up being the death of him. Because he never stopped loving her.
Can they put their painful history aside, and work together against her enemy? Or will the past prove too strong to be forgiven?

Another mass of contradictions, push and pull. It was a good thing that even if this was a short read there was already history told at the beginning so it made it easier to understand. Joseph must really love Eva so much.
Badly written. A novice writer. writes like a child. No offence to the author but it's all very one dimensional and lacking in maturity and any feeling of realisim.
Eva Gonzales' life is in danger, and the only one capable of protecting her is her recent ex-boyfriend Joseph. Absolution sets up a wonderful love/hate relationship and the sparks really fly!
Joseph (whose last name we never learn) is a likable, honorable man. He obviously loves Eva and wants desperately to explain his actions and win back her heart, but he's deflected at every turn. While his primary goal is to keep her alive, he is also determined to explain what he knows is a terrible misunderstanding.
Eva is a very strong, stubborn, and prideful woman. She's also heartbroken. After finding a naked Joseph in bed with a stripper, she vows she's seen the last of him. I wanted to like Eva, and could understand the devastation she felt when she felt she'd been betrayed. But even after it was clear Joseph's compromising position may not have been what it seemed, she continues to resist. He continued to fight to win her heart, and she not only accepted his physical advances, she allowed him to make love to her, only to say goodbye once it was over. I felt his pain the moment he thought he'd gotten through to her, only to be turned away. The mixed signals didn't seem fair to Joseph.
Even towards the end of the story, Eva's inner thoughts were always the worst of Joseph, and I began to feel he deserved better. I can certainly understand doubt, but when it's proven, more than once, that he was not guilty of what she believed, I would have hoped her faith would have returned 100%. Unfortunately, it didn't, and I actually felt myself wondering if he was better off without her.
As for Ms. Albert's writing style, it was very good. She is very easy to read and as the action unfolds, it's easy to follow and picture what is happening. I did cheer as Joseph fought the bad guys to defend his woman. Despite my frustration with the heroine, the story was an hot, interesting read and I would certainly consider reading another title of Ms. Albert. For a quick, exciting, action story, Absolution may be a good book to look into.
Absolution is packed with sensual tension, action/adventure, second chances, and true love.
Eva is a teacher who, despite her father's demands to move back to the States, insists in remaining in a most dangerous place.
Joseph is a creme de la creme ATF agent, who's been forced to stay away from Eva. To his surprise, the same man who's kept him from her enlists him to protect her.
Eva wants nothing to do with Joseph, her only wish is for him to leave her the hell alone. Under other circumstances, Joseph would do just that, but keeping her alive is his top priority. His second and hidden priority is winning her heart back.
Power of wills clash when they find themselves in the same room, and just when sensual tension rises...their adventure begins.
I have to say the sensual tension in this book was a total teaser. When things started to heat up, gained momentum and I thought "oh he's gonna...", "aah she'll...", "why can't she...he", BANG! Action knocked on their door (literally), then thoughts such as: "OMG run", "hide", "get the hell out", "oh no", went thru my mind.
I'd love to say more but I'd spoil it. Absolution took me on an emotional roller coaster ride. It ROCKED!

I love dangerous situations as it really creates suspense within the story. Absolution didn't disappoint me in that aspect. Put an agent and a normal teacher together and you get a superb story, never mind that the agent was caught cheating by said normal teacher just weeks ago with a stripper in their bed and got chased out of the house. Fate brought the two of them together when Eva's father sought Joseph's protection for Eva because he believed she was being targeted due to some of his military mission.
Joseph arrived on the same day where Eva was going to have a date with a guy. Funny scene when the guy showed up at the house! Totally enjoyed that. When Eva was targeted by an armed man in her own house, Joseph decided to hide her somewhere where even her father wouldn't know to find. Oh! The danger! Sometimes, I felt like whacking Eva on her head for being so stubborn. It could have saved them lots of trouble and heartache if she listened. But then, it would take the fun out of the story wouldn't it? When I began the story, I disliked Eva's authoritative father but found myself finding him a little funny at the end. How did my view on him change? Will Eva ever find it within herself to forgive Joseph? Read Diane's Absolution to find out! You have to read it if you enjoy reading her other works. If you haven't tried any yet, be sure to try ALL! They're really good!
Disclosure: I received an ecopy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks to Decadent Publishing and Diane Alberts for creating another wonderful story and series that I love! I read a couple of them and had to read the rest of this series. I love military romances, 2nd chance romances and DP so I had to read it!
So here are my thoughts on the book: I loved it and was hooked from the first chapter. Both these characters are stubborn as hell but they are perfect for each other. Parents need to stay out of their grown children's relationship. Bet dear old dad felt like an ass after the truth came out. I can't review this one any other way than this because there is so much that happened that I will give it all away!!
This is the first book I've read from Diane Alberts, but it won't be the last. This book had it all, romance, action, second chances and finally true love.
eh..well the heroine totally ruined the story for me...didn't like her at all and I didn't feel much chemistry between the characters....not a bad storyline though..
