When something tall, dark and yummy crosses Dex's threshold, his inner Omega wolf goes on full alert. Instinct tells Dex he's met his mate but the man seems less than thrilled at the prospect. And has totally suppressed his inner wolf.
Maddock has no intention of getting involved with any man, especially a little hottie who's a little nuts. The guy actually thinks he's a werewolf and that Maddock is one as well.
But resisting temptation is harder than he imagined. The full moon is on the rise and instinct can't be denied forever.
Tielle (pronounced "teal") St. Clare has had life-long love of romance novels. She began reading romances in the 7th grade when she discovered Victoria Holt novels and began writing romances at the age of 16 (during Trigonometry, if the truth be told). During her senior year in high school, the class dressed up as what they would be in twenty years-Tielle dressed as a romance writer.
When not writing romances, Tielle has worked in public relations and video production for the past 20 years. Tielle moved to Alaska when she was seven years old in 1972 when her father was transferred with the military.
Tielle believes romances should be hot and sexy with a great story and fun characters.
Lots of setup that didn't deliver. Why bother telling us Dex is a true omega wolf with the ability to project sex vibes? As an excuse to describe Micah's erection? As a setup for the next book? This is supposed to convince me to read the sequel - someone's superability to arouse bystanders?
Okay, I'll admit I'll buy such a book for the lulz.
Writing in this one was functional but mediocre; nothing special here, nothing that hasn't been rehashed in fifty one thousand shifter books. Characters were penises, and at any one time you will know nothing about them except the state of their penis and the state of their penis in the past week, their sexual frustrations, and their inability to get it up for women.
3.5 stars Saw this story on my friend, Mandy's update and couldn't help it. I'm in the mood for dominant Alpha :).
What makes this story charming is the fact that Maddock doesn't know that he's wolf. So he's confused with his lust over Dex, the sexy waiter he meets at this bar called Red Dragon. It results on some HOT scenes :p. It's so amusing because apparently, since Dex is an Omega wolf, he can channels his feeling ... so believe me when Maddock and Dex are smexxing, EVERYBODY can feel the sex in the air *lol*. Oh yes, everybody is horny, and that is just delightful. I like how Maddock learns about his wolf and Dex is just so adorable, his submissive side is just perfect for Maddoc!! I do think the ending comes a bit too fast though, like everything is wrapped up a bit too quickly.
This story seems to be first in a series. The prologue actually has nothing to do with Maddock ... rather Dex and his friends, the blind wolf Reese, and pregnant witch Rhian, all outcasts, are trying to form their own pack with reluctant Alpha, Micah. It's funny that Micah denies him being their Alpha, but he totally protects the three. I'm looking forward stories of the rest of this gang.
I REALLY enjoyed this! I thought the werewolves were great, I loved their little pack and Micah refusing to call it that, I thought that the other characters were all interesting, and I am definitely interested in learning more about everyone else too. Dex and Maddok together were just SMOKIN' hot, they just had great chemistry together, and I really enjoyed them. I am definitely looking forward to more in this series, especially getting a story for Reese hopefully!
What a good beginning to a new series that I’m so going to enjoy reading. This was a nice short story. It only had 9 chapters but it didn’t leave me feeling overwhelmed with the introduction of this new cast of characters. The story also felt complete. Sure I wanted to read more but there were no big gapping holes like some short stories produce in order to fit a beginning, middle and end in 100 pages or less.
Dex and Maddock…what a pair. Maddock’s constant denial of what he wanted from Dex made me want to hit him upside the head…HELLO McFly! Then he redeemed himself to me by calling Dex ‘baby’ so sweetly (sigh). So satisfying to read when this happens. Darling and Dear just don’t do it for me in contemporary romance.
I said no big gapping holes but there were a couple of things that left me pondering…
To repeat I’m looking forward to reading this new series.
Personally, I thought Maddock was a dick. While I was reading the prologue I thought Oooo...Dex and Micah. Yeah, that wasn't it at all. All of a sudden this slick businessman comes into The Red Dragon (which isn't explained at all) and is an instant dick. I wished that Micah would have crushed Maddock with his fists. Oops, did I really say that? Anyway, Reese (a blind wolf), is basically the genius of their history and whatnot, but he figures out all the problems.
Once Maddock figured out what was going on, I NEEDED more from him.
I really liked the protectiveness from the pack. Would have liked to have seen Rhian use her powers :) I love me some witches!
So while I liked Dex, I could NOT get on board with Maddock :( Also, too many questions left unanswered for my liking.
This happens to be one of the older books on my TBR list and I am not sure why. It was a really good read. I love all the supporting characters and can not wait to read their stories as well. I love a little angst in my reads. You really weren't sure what Maddock was going to do until the author was ready. It was well written, I could feel Maddock's inner wolf all antsy and ready to run. Great read. Loved the Maddock and Dex and can't wait for more.
Based on the prologue (and since I wasn't paying attention to the blurb), I initially thought Dex was going to end up with Micah. It's kind of a shame it didn't work out that way because I liked Micah a whole lot better than Maddock :(
2.5 stars. This was an ok read for me. It started off interestingly enough but then everything felt so rushed rushed rushed, even for a novella. Still, I am boldly moving on to the next shifter story. Mary Calmes, oh mighty queen of fluff, here I come.
Reading it for the second time I was able to increase the star count to ★★★★ because without the confusion (mentioned below), this book is a really good smexy read ... I liked the fresh approach to the shifter plot line that Tielle St. Clare used ... this is fun read & I'm looking forward to reading the sequel.
Original review...
This is really a ★★★☆ read but I couldn't justify giving it ★★★★ because the first third of the book is so fecking confusing.
This was a sweet shifter romance without the usual insta-love plot line ... there was oodles of insta-lust with chilli-hot smex, which made for a much more enjoyable read than most of the formulaic shifter romances around at the moment. If the first part of the book were re-written with more background to give the story & characters more context, this book would easily be a ★★★★ read. I'll definitely check out the next book in the series to see what happens.
He's a wolf about to get beat up and he thinks that he needs to "calm his fluttering tummy." I'm thinking this is a twink.
It's been six months since the prologue and she's only barely starting to show?
This is a different way of telling the story of fated mates when the non wolf doesn't know about wolves. I like it a lot.
Head hopping mid scene. But not back and forth, usually just once.
Sensing Warmth and shadows wouldn't help a blind man pour drinks.
That's third pair of jeans he's ruined and Dex doesn't have a lot of money to replace them.
Cool that they made them have some time to get to know each other.
Felt like it ended slightly too soon--I wanted more of the lovey dovey stuff--but there's a short that has a little more of their story that I hope covers that.
This was different and I like the world, but I wanted more about how they came to be a pack after all.
I couldn't connect with this main couple. But I did like the main plotted story, even if somehow it didn't make sense. Overall it was comical story it made me laugh a lot, at least at the start. This writing style was a bit weird. I didn't like it.
Meh, I was promised a snarky/crazy shifter and an oblivious wolf... What I got was just meh. Yet another book that has been in my library for quite some time, that just didn't catch my attention. I think the blurb is the biggest clue, it's not really an in depth-story, just yeah...
This was pretty enjoyable; I would have rated it higher if I didn't dislike dom/sub and spanking stuff. I'll still take a look at the rest in the series.
