Rate this book
The only fully comprehensive guide to "all things feline," from the host of Cat Chat on Martha Stewart Living Radio.

Finally, a definitive book that delivers many unknown facts about every aspect of caring for and sharing your life with a cat, ranging from proper nutrition and strange behavior to medical care and multi-cat households, to grooming and geriatrics. The Cat Bible explains the mysteries of feline behavior to owners who are devoted to their cats without being able to fully understand them. It offers straightforward solutions to the problems that cause people to give up their cats, many of which are preventable, including litter box avoidance, furniture scratching, and physical ailments.

There are more than 90 million American households that count cats as family members, but they are a vastly underserved population, devoted to their kitties, yet bereft of all the public attention, programming, and print devoted to dogs. Now, bestselling author and investigative journalist Tracie Hotchner offers them The Cat Bible , with straightforward, fact-filled solutions to health and behavior problems, based on years of research into the real reasons behind these issues. In the same warm, straightforward style that attracts devoted listeners to her radio shows, Tracie tackles controversial topics such as the truth about commercial dry pet foods and their dangers, bringing readers the latest facts on every topic that affects a feline?s well-being.

There's a lot of useful information in here for new cat owners who have no idea of how to handle a kitten or cat with responsibility and care. I've had cats my whole life and don't find much use for this, but it is nice to have around in case a friend asks me a question I may not know, or if I am trying to understand a behaviour my cats do not usually have.

Excellent advice on all aspects of cat companionship (I hesitate to say "ownership," because, well, cats). Especially useful for a multi-cat household.

So I got a cat. Or, I RESCUED a cat. I have never had a cat before. Just dogs. So this cat and I are regarding one another and we are clearly both saying to ourselves, "Oh boy - what next?!" This book was recommended to me. I downloaded it onto my iPad and read every. single.word. I still am not sure of what I am doing, neither is she, but we are trying because the first thing I learned is that a cat is not a dog. At all. Following Hotchners common sense and often very funny advise, we are making our way. A victory? The Cat sleeps with me at night, purring. She often refuses to eat so I take the dish (that I hope she likes) away. I believe we are going to be fast friends eventually. So much to learn if you are a first-timer like I am. I URGE you to get this book. I INSIST you get this book. It will make your life, and your cats, much much easier.

This book is completely appalling. The information is obvious and she states it in a very matter-of-fact way. Lions live in prides, which are a sort of pack? NO. WAY?! Honestly, every three-year-old and his dog knows that. She also handles criticism in an extremely unprofessional, informal way as seen on her response to one Amazon reviewer's comments on her book, about how she gave her cats to a friend because her precious, bought after the cats were settled in dogs started being aggressive towards her cats. This "author" is a pompous, know-it-all, state the obvious idiot, to put it bluntly. The book is absurd, badly written, and the information is self explanatory. I do NOT recommend this book.

Handy to have when the cats do something random or destructive and I'd like to know why.
