I really love the cover art of this one and is one of my favorites in that regard. ☺️ And the story is really good too!

This one does have more magical elements then some of the others as aside from Angelica’s usual powers, Elena can see visions plus there’s one scene where there are some ghost children which could be kinda creepy for younger readers. Other then that the adventure and bonds between the horses and girls are just as strong and real as all the other books in this series.

I love how level headed Elena is and how much she loves her family even her dad despite how he doesn’t think she can do anything because she’s a girl. I thought that element was really interesting and rarely used in stories of how even if our parents don’t believe in us we can still love them while also proving them wrong in the end. The horses Mora and Luna were amazing too, and even though we didn’t see much of him I liked Gato too. And of course Angelica is amazing as always. ☺️

The condors were also well done as “villains” in the fact that they acted like normal creatures surviving in the Andes Mountains while also being threats to the main characters. Their perspective is a tiny bit gruesome though since they eat a dead horse on page (not detailed, but still).

Really enjoyed rereading this one again!

‼️Content‼️

Violence: a horse was abused in the past by vaqueros trying to break her (not detailed); injuries and blood (not detailed); a horse fell off a cliff to her death (not shown only mentioned); condors attack humans and horses; a horse nearly drowns

Other: death and grief; a character has supernatural powers; magic; a girl can see visions; a girl’s mom has premonitions; condors eat a dead horse (not detailed but enough to get the gross picture); a past ritual where people sacrificed children by leaving them bound in caves to die; child spirits

Third volume of the series Horse guardian is full of adventure and I had good time reading it both as a child and now as an adult. I liked the description of the landscape. I highly recommend for children who like horses.

Another Great Read!

Wow, what a great adventure for another young girl who loves her horses her home and her family. She even gets to save her dad and one of the horses. Such a lot happens along the way and for Elena it will take everything she has to save her dad. Enjoying this series a great deal and can't wait for the next book.

These books are blowing my mind with how diverse and interesting they are. Each main character is from a different place and the villains in particular are unconventional. In this book, they are a family of condors.

Loved learning a bit about the Andes from this book, and the ending once again was so sweet.
