Lyn grew up loving books. Her favorite night of the week was Friday night, when the Bookmobile came to her neighborhood in Illinois. She’d spend those two hours chatting with the driver of the Bookmobile and the librarian and making the big decision of the week — which books to check out! In those distant days, children were limited in how many books they could check out. Lyn could only take home six a week — and there were so many to choose from. Her favorites were Cotton in my Sack by Lois Lenski, The Little House series and the One of a Kind Family series. Later, she discovered Georgette Heyer’s Regency romances!
This love of books led to a desire to write. Lyn won prizes in high school and college for her poetry and, not surprisingly, Lyn became a history and English teacher. When she became a mother, she gave up teaching, and while raising a son and a daughter, she began working on her first novel. Then she wrote her second and third. Long years of rejection followed — as it does for most writers. Finally in 1997, Lyn got "the call." Her first book, Never Alone, was chosen to appear in the first year of the new Love Inspired line. Lyn has written many articles on writing and the emerging Christian Booksellers Assoc. (CBA) fiction market. In 2006, Lyn's book, Chloe, is a finalist for the RWA's RITA, the highest award in the romance genre in the inspirational category.
Now, Lyn spends her days writing books that show the power of divine as well as human love. Her nest is empty and she and her real life hero, her husband, have more and more time to spend together in their home on a lake in the lovely northwoods. And books are still dear to her heart.

Dangerous Season is book one in the Harbor Intrigue series by Lyn Cote. This is my very first book by Lyn. I have had this paperback sitting my shelf for years, having picked it up at some point at a library book sale. The cover is what drew me in and I ended up enjoying it so much. This book is classified as a Christian romantic suspense. It was published in 2007 and sadly, I haven’t found it anywhere digitally. It seems only to be available in paperback form.

Keir Harding is thirty six years old and has only been sheriff of Winfield, Wisconsin for a few months. Winfield is a very small tourist town located right on Lake Superior. It’s been Keir’s home all his life. Keir had a rough childhood. He knew what it was like not to be wanted by your own parent. And as a teenager, he acted out his frustrations in a bad way. But the love of his step dad, Tom, helped him to become the man he is today. But such a small town doesn’t forget, no matter how many years have passed.

Audra Blair is I believe in her late twenties and is single mom to her adorable seven year old daughter, Evie. Audra wants to be a good mom to Evie and provide for her so she has invested everything she has in Audra’s Place, a coffee shop and bakery by day and a takeout pizza service by night. She is literally burning the candle at both ends and her business is thriving.

Both Keir and Audra have felt the pull to each other but both are convinced that they wouldn’t be good for the other. Keir because of his reputation and Audra because she has a child and has no time for anything but work and little Evie. But every time these two are in the same room, it becomes more difficult to ignore what they feel. And when they need strength, they soon learn that that is exactly what the other has to offer, strength, support and love.

At the same time, an arsonist has begun to set fires in Winfield. Keir works diligently to try to find out who is setting these fires but can’t figure it out. Most of the fires affect people that Keir is close to. But then someone gets hurt and it becomes even more important that he solve this case.

This was such a lovely story of love, strength and faith. Both of these characters had so much on their shoulders. I enjoyed watching them finally give in and rely on each other instead of trying to do it all on their own. But even their faith doesn’t keep them from doubting themselves. Keir desperately wants to solve the fires to prove to the town that he is better than he was when he was a teen. That he can do his job and protect the town. And Audra is such a wonderful person but she doubted she was enough for Keir. I also need to admit that I was surprised at who the arsonist was. And one other thing. Chad, who is a fourteen year old boy whose life also hasn’t been fair to him, is also a part of this story. This boy who is troubled but you can just see that inside him is all kinds of goodness just waiting for the right people in his life to trust and lead him. The characters in this book truly care about him and helping him to stay on the right path.

You might be able to find this at a library or might have to purchase the paperback and if you do, I hope you enjoy your visit to Winfield as much as I did.

When I started reading this book, I though it was going to be too repetitious with having one fire after another, but wow! all of a sudden it became so interesting and exciting, I could hardly put it down! It was fast becoming a story with lots of tension, fun, hope, and faith, with tender and inspirational moments. Forgiveness, especially under the circumstances these characters found themselves in, was definitely not easy. I was cheering them on and hoping that it would all turn out. Lyn Cote shows so wonderfully in Dangerous Season, that all mankind is flawed and yet can still succeed and win over their failures. ! I loved the conclusion and was so happy it was a good ending for everyone! I highly recommend Dangerous Season and certainly look forward to the next two books in this series, Harbor Intrique.

Dangerous Season
By: Lyn Cote
Dangerous Season is the first book in The Harbor Intrigue Series. This is the first I have read of Lyn Cote and I really loved it, I am looking forward to more by this author. She brings her characters out in Dangerous Season and it feels like you are right there with them. When I started reading I did not want to stop till the last words. You are hanging onto every word. Keir Harding is the sheriff in his hometown of Wisconsin. He is still trying to live down his life as a young boy. He did not have an easy life, some people does not let him forget it, and some does not want him for sheriff. There is an arsonist in the community and it is in summer season. He has set several fires and the people are all worried and don't know who to trust .Keir is trying to find the person responsible for setting the fires. The fires get close to home when they go after Audra Blair. Audra owns and runs a waterfront cafe. She took a big step out on faith when getting her cafe. She is single and trying to raise her young daughter. Nobody knows who to trust because of the fires. Keri has to talk to someone about some suspects and he picks Audra. Now Audra is not even sure that she can trust the sheriff with his background..He draws Audra into helping him. Keri starts to have feelings for Audra, but he thinks he is not good enough for her and her daughter. Things starts to heat up in this seaside community while Keir and Audra are trying to catch the arsonist. If you love a good suspense with some romance then you will love Dangerous Season. Be sure and pick you up a copy and learn more about Keir, Audra, and their small community, and find out who and what is behind these fires.

This suspenseful plot grabbed me so much that I didn't want to put it down and ended up reading it in one day. Arson, anger and revenge, romance, and mentoring relationships are all explored. Many of the characters have done things in their past that they are not proud of, but most are able to get beyond that and make a difference for others. A big part of the story involves not judging others by their past and jumping to conclusions, but allowing for the possibility that they have been able to improve themselves. Mysteries are enjoyable to me, but often I become discouraged because I figure it out entirely too soon. This was not the case with Lyn Cote's book. She gave enough possibilities that had some real merit that the ending wasn't a foregone conclusion. Keir was certainly a character you could admire and root for, and I loved how the ending unfolded. Fans of suspense and clean romance will love this one.

I was given a copy by the author for review purposes, but the opinions expressed are my own. I was not required to write a positive review.

Dangerous Season**** by Lynn Cote

Audra Blair has taken a leap of faith and returned to Winfield, Wisconsin with her daughter Evie. She is hopeful her new waterfront cafe', Audra's Place, will be a hit with the tourists swarming the wharf in this Lake Superior community. Like so many, Audra has secrets and has put her past behind her, seeking God's guidance in her life. Keir frequents her cafe' and she finds she is drawn to him but has been hurt in the past and is fearful to trust or have him learn her secrets.

Sheriff Keir Harding has worked hard to put his past behind him and serve his community as their new sheriff. He is hopeful for a quiet tourists season but that is soon shattered when an arsonist strikes on the first day of the tourist season. One set fire is bad enough but then more follow leaving little clues as to who or why they are setting the fires. There are speculations that a young teenager to be the arsonist as he had set fires in the past. But Keir does not believe it is Chad. The fires escalate until the two people he cares for the most—his step-dad and Audra—are injured in one of the fires. He is now more determined to find the arsonist before someone else is hurt or killed.

Amid secrets, troubled pasts and mistrust, can Keir and Audra move beyond their pasts and follow their hearts? Can they trust God to lead them in all areas of their lives, even love? Is the arsonist someone with a grudge toward Keir or Audra? Can there be forgiveness between family members who have been at odds for some time—can their relationships be restored? This story will surprise you with the twists and turns. It had me guessing throughout the book who the arsonist was. I enjoyed the story line very much.

This is the first of three books in her suspense series. Lyn Cote definitely doesn't gloss over hard issues of having a child out of wedlock, dealing with anger, and how to handle your past in the midst of a town in turmoil with fires starting all over. Who the arsonist is, is yet to be determine. Audra has just opened up her own business in town and Keir must find out who is messing with this town and it's residents and for what reason. When the arsonist sets his sights on Audra, it becomes even more person with Keir. Their love story weaves throughout the novel in a great way. Dealing with a past you aren't proud of is something that seems to become a running thread throughout this series. Your past doesn't dictate who you are, it's your relationship with Christ that does and that is what we see through Keir's character. He has tried to leave his troubled past behind has well, but when things get tough he is challenged. But, we also see a godly man who puts Christ at the center of his life and Audra is drawn to that. Once they start working together to find out who is starting all the trouble in the town is when thing really pick up! Lyn leaves you on the edge of your seat and introduces you to characters and a town that will worm it's way into your heart.

What a ride this book took me on! Dangerous Season is the first book in the Harbor Intrigue series. I am definitely looking forward to reading the next in the series after the fabulous teaser that the author included in the epilogue! This is the first romantic suspense that I have read by Lyn Cote. I love her historical fiction, and can now say that I love her suspense books.

Dangerous Season really kept me guessing up until the very end. I had a suspicion about who the arsonist was, but there were three people that I kept going back and forth between. I kept changing my guess! This was a very exciting and enjoyable book with characters that truly felt like real people. The growth of the romance between the main characters was just right and left me with such a happy feeling when they finally admitted their love for each other.

Dangerous Season was a real page turner for me that I enjoyed from the start to finish. I definitely recommend for fans of romantic suspense.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review, which I have given.

Harbor Intrigue
Book 1

Sheriff Keir Harding hasn't had the job very long, and it seems he'll get a lot of practice sheriffing when a series of arson fires happen in his fine town. The town suspects a troubled teenager, estranged from his father who has a history of setting ires, but Keir doesn't want to jump to any conclusions.

Meanwhile, as the story begins, we step into the pages of the beginning of a romance. They were attracted to each other before the story began, and as we read the book that took place over a few months, we watch their romance grow. Keir and Audra have a special chemistry, and Keir loves her little girl as well. There are some other things happening such as strange phone calls made to Audra that upset her. Keir plans to get to the bottom of that as well.

The suspense was pretty good. Although I had a pretty good idea who was involved, I kept bouncing to others thinking "Well...maybe..." The romance was wonderful. I always like it when the author allows physical attraction to grow instead of being ignored until the end...

A very engaging read with characters that stand out. Lyn keeps you intrigued and guessing the whole way through this mystery romance. Her writing is full and doesn't leave you empty. The main characters struggle and grow as people, definitely not perfect. When the book ended I wanted to read more and am glad that there are two more in this series.
