Up, Up, Up by Susan Reed and Rachel Oldfield is a fantastic singalong about flying in a balloon. It's got a chorus that is fun to sing and my students love it. If you need a copy of the music it can be found on youtube. The kids featured in the pictures are multicultural which my multicultural students adore.
I just read this with my eight year old son and four year old daughter.
I found this book at work. (Work has 3 ages Infants, Toddlers and Preschool). The Infants and Toddlers classes read this book a lot, Infants is once a week and Toddlers at least once a day for mat time. It is more popular with the toddler children (ages 2-3) as the kids are the ones that ask for it for mat time. I had it stuck in my head when I got home and my kids wanted to read it so I ordered a copy and its read so many times at home now as well. I also got a copy for a friend for her baby shower gift. Her baby is due in August but for gives they asked for everyone to give a favourite book and the kids picked this one when I asked them.
All questions answered by my son (Nicholas) and daughter (Charlotte).
Do you like this book? Charlotte said "yep" Nicholas said "Yes"
What do you think of the cover? Charlotte said "Love it" Nicholas said "Up, Up, Up Amazing"
Did you like the illustrations? Both said "Love them"
Do you want me to read it again? Nicholas said "Yes" Charlotte said "YESSSSSSSS"
Miss 3 thought it was ok but her sensory sensitivities meant that she just wanted me to read it to her (she didn't want me to put on the CD) and it probably would have been better looking at it while listening to the song.
Miss 3 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.
I like this song a lot, which surprises me because it keeps going off-tempo which is something that usually bugs me. It's just a song about enjoying a balloon ride, there's no subtle depth. But it's just catchy and fun.
Clever story about traveling in a hot air balloon. The illustrations are detailed and capture the feel of the story. Simple repetitive chorus to read, speak and sing.
My son received this book in his monthly Citrus Lane box and I had high expectations because we have both enjoyed everything that we have previously received or purchased from Barefoot Books. This adorable book is no exception! The pictures are colorful and vibrant and accompany a simple, fun story about traveling high up in a hot air balloon. The accompanying singalong CD is quite a treat, presenting the story as a cute song alongside an animated version of the original illustrations. I can tell that my son liked watching and listening because he cried as soon as it ended! Since there are options on the CD to learn the song or sing the song solo, I can see us enjoying this book for years to come.
The bright colors and fun song make this a fun read-a-loud. I used it with both kindergartners and special needs children. I felt a little self-conscious doing this, since I sung along with the accompanying CD. I am not a real great singer, but the students enjoyed it. I received several requests to do it again. The bright colors and beautiful panoramas give a good introduction to the concept of geography and the variety of landscapes to be seen on our planet. Recommended for both educational use and just for fun.
