Sometimes we find ourselves on a gravel road, not sure of how we got there or where the road leads. Sharp stones pellet the unprotected, and the everyday wear and tear sears more deeply.Sixteen-year-old Neema Powell was always the best-looking girl in school. Her girlfriends said that she looked like Beyonce, with beautiful caramel skin and a body others would kill for. But right now she was a wreck. Her mother's sleazy boyfriend was towering over her screaming, Get out!; And her own mother wouldn't even look at her as she walked out of the apartment into the dead January day. Neema knew that Nate, her boyfriend, would take care of her. I'll give Mom a couple of days to calm down, Neema thought, and I'll swing by to pick up a few items. Like my pills. A couple of days couldn't hurt. But those two days made all the difference, and Neema must draw from somewhere deep for the inner strength she will need.

This book is about a high school girl named Neema and her life during high school. She has struggled a lot living with her mother and her step father cause he’s tried taking advantage of her but her mom never believes her so she is then kicked out of the house and decides to go live with her boyfriend. Her boyfriends family isn’t to happy of her living at there house and tell Nate that her girlfriend needs to find somewhere else. Neema decides to go live with her aunt and while living with her she notices something is wrong with her and finds out she’s pregnant. She’s a junior at school and her boyfriend is a senior and then her boyfriend leaves her alone and gets another girlfriend. Neema struggles along the way of being pregnant. I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars because this book really grabbed my attention while reading it cause I can relate with seeing some young single mothers also. I also really liked how the author describes the thoughts that are going through Neema’s mind and how she feels about everything during her pregnancy. This makes us the readers actually visualize what’s going on in her life in school and at home.

Neema Poole is 16 and is in the tenth grade and she seems to have it all and have the perfect live, or at least that's what it seems like at school. Everyone adored her, Nemma had it all. But outside of school her live wasn't so happy and perfect. She lived with her mom and her mom's boyfriend, who is a drunk, in an apartment with her step dad's pawn shop below on the first floor. The story begins when Neema gets kicked out of her home because she told her mother that her boyfriend had touched her sexually but her mother couldn't believe it. Neema decides to move into her boyfriend Nate's house, whom lives with his parents. Neema plans to stay just for a couple of days and continue to go to school then she would have somewhere to go. But after a fews days have passed Nate's parents said they had enough and she had to go. Neema got her things but didn't have anywhere to go. At last she remembers she can go to her aunt's house. Neema moves in with her aunt and plans to stay long enough to let things cool down at home then she moves back home. A few days later Neema and Nate had planned to go out but Nate couldn't go he had came up with different plans. Neema starts to feel mixed feelings because Nate has also been texting her slower and short replies. When Neema goes to school the next day Nate didn't nearly want anything to do with her like he use to. Nate took Neema out and told her what was wrong, he wanted to break up with her.
The next day when Neema goes to school she sees Nate with another girl and starts a fight. Her aunt tells her that she needs to straighten up and start acting right. Among all of the events that have happened to Neema, she soons finds out she is pregnant. Neema knows for definite that Nate is the father of the baby.
Neema and her mother continued to not speak until her mother came to apologize to Neema and to move in with them. She left her drunken boyfriend. Neema's aunt had already told Neema's mom about Neema's pregnancy and that she was living with her. Neema decides to forgive her mother and the two of them agreed to rekindle their relationship. Nate found out Neema was pregnant and said he didn't want anything to do with her or the baby. He ageed to sign his rights over. Neema gives birth to her daughter and her, her baby, her aunt, and her mom all decide that they are all each others they need, just the four of them.
The things I like most about this story is the ending and how they all came together to support and love one another even after all that has happened. I was expecting for Neema to tell Nate about her pregnancy and them two get back together but instead Nate signs his rights over. This story had my attention from the very beginning and kept me on the edge.
I did not like how fast pace the story moved in the beginning. The author begins the story while Neema is getting kicked out and since that point of the story all of her life been crashing down. The author used descriptive words to describe Neema in the beginning introducing her school live but that's it. I felt the author rushed through the exposition very fast and sped through the rising acting to get to the climax. Once the story begins and the falling action begins to unwind the story slows down and focuses more on the characters feelings. How the character's feel helps engage readers in the text because it sets the mood better.

I received 2 Days for review quite a while ago, read it, but didn't review it after reading it. I couldn't quite figure out exactly why it was difficult to put down my thoughts. I reread it again this past week and I am still struggling with sharing what I think about it, and now I think that I realize why. 2 Days isn't filled with all of the struggle and angst that I typically find (and enjoy reading) in a lot of contemporary young adult which resulted in a lack of emotional connection and believability.

2 Days opens with an argument between Neema and her mother (and her mother's boyfriend) and she is forced to leave her home with little more than the clothes on her back. While she isn't completely welcomed with open arms, she goes to stay with her boyfriend. Neema seemed so unaffected by the whole situation. This is where my issue lies with the story - she doesn't haven't any moments of freaking out, worrying about where she is going to live. I don't want to fault her for being this way because it is great to see this amount of strength and willfulness at a young age, but it just didn't seem realistic.

As the book cover and title suggests (and I don't think I'm giving anything away here), Neema finds out that she is pregnant after missing two of her birth control pills. Again, she reacts in a way that is unexpected. She immediately tells her aunt that she needs to go to the health clinic to find out for sure. On one hand, I respect that this approach is taken to show that a teenager can be mature and take action, but on the other hand, it just doesn't seem realistic.

The story continues detailing parts of Neema's pregnancy and shows how her relationships with her boyfriend, her mother, and her friends, change as a result of her pregnancy. This part I did find to be a more realistic portrayal of how a teenager's life can change when she decides to become a mother.

2 Days reads like a diary which is something that I do like about the book. I like that Neema is a strong-willed character, but she was a little too no-nonsense at times. I would have liked to read more about her inner struggles, contemplating her decisions, rather than being so decisive about every choice she had to make. I think that would have helped develop the emotional connection I like to have with a story or a character. I know that this book will appeal to many readers, but it left me wanting more.

After reading this book I never wanted it to end it kept me on the edge of my seat and I never put the book down because it is a really good book. 2 Days is a extraordinary book and I suggest this to many readers. The main character is Neema Powell and everybody loved her in school because they all thought she was pretty. But what may seem like a happy girl on the outside isn’t really a happy girl on the inside. Her mom kicked her out of the house and her mom’s boyfriend is always drunk. So she decides to live with her boyfriend Nate for awhile until things cool down. But Nates parents don’t necessarily like Neema so they kick her out too. Not only that but a couple days later Nate breaks up with her for another girl. So Neema is a total wreck. In a couple of days things grow worse. Neema finds out she is pregnant and Nate is the father and she is deciding if she wants Nate apart of her life or not. One thing I liked about this book is when Neema decides to keep the baby because she loves it too much to let it go. One thing I didn’t like about the book was when Nate broke up with her because I thought they were meant to be. Neema uses conflict throughout the story. I wanted to keep reading because when i was reading i felt like the conflict would never end. This story is perfect for kids at 10 years old because its not a bad book but it’s not the best book in the world either. Neema may use 1 swear word in the story but that is pretty much it. I think many people will like the way this book was written because it makes readers feel like they are in the book feeling the way Neema does. I would rate this book a 4 and a half instead of 5 because i feel like they could of made the story longer but i still really enjoyed the book.
Here is an excerpt from the book: A few flurries greeted me as i stood on the curb in front of Aunt Amina’s apartment building. There was no grass, no trees, only concrete. I was standing right in front of the door. The building that towered above me blocked any late afternoon sun. I shivered from the cold.

Two days is all you have to forget about. Think of how short two days is, pretty short. Neema only forgot to take her pills for two days. She ended up in the hospital. Two days is all it takes for something not so serious to get serious. Neema got kicked out of her house for lying to her mom about why she was in the hospital, but shortly after she gets out she has to go back. Neema was pregnant. This book is very emotional and serious. Neema goes through a lot all throughout the book.
Not only does Neema find out she's pregnant, but the dad of the baby leaves her. He wants nothing to do with Neema or the baby any longer. Now that the Mikey (the dad) left Neema, Neema's mom thinks she should have an abortion or give the baby up for adoption. Neema, however, wants to keep her baby. This causes many conflicts between Neema and her mom, especially since Neema's mom kicked her out of the house. Neema has no place to live, except with her Aunt. Neema's Aunt lets her stay and now she has a place to at least raise the baby, with help.
Although nobody wants Neema to keep the baby, she keeps it anyways. She names the baby Maya. Neema still has to work and go to school. Her friend Eddie brings her all of the work that she has missed and helps her with it. They end up falling in love with each other.
Now that Neema has fallen in love with Eddie, Maya will have a fatherly figure. Eddie helps Neema take care of Maya, and even buys a house for them. They all move into the house together. Neema and Eddie get married. They end up living happily together with Maya.
Overall, I really liked this book. It teaches good lessons throughout and gives insight on what could happen in your life. It teaches that you need to stay strong and keep trying. I recommend this book to people that are out of elementary school and are somewhat older. This book is very mature, while also staying at a low lexile, so it was very easy to understand. You can see that Neema goes through a very emotional time with her mom, but she ends up getting through it and back up on her feet again.

2 Days is an amazing book that I, 100%, completely, recommend to all readers. This book will make your heart drop, lift, and make you feel tons of emotions you never imagined possible. Personally, this book made me cry, laugh, and worry, basically putting me in Neema Powell’s shoes. You, mentally, go on the journey with her. L. B. Tillit is an amazing author for all ages. She made it that reading was more enjoyable to myself and I know she would inspire you too.

You see, I used to never read books. I hated even the thought of having to read, of course, I would read my English classes books for a grade but honestly, I never read for leisure. I walked into my High School’s library and saw a small blue book, with yellow writing, Two Days, it caught my eye and without thinking I checked it out.
As soon as I started to read I could not stop. The way that the book caused emotions and pulled me in kept me interested the whole time. On many occasions, I have read books that I thought could have been improved but this one definitely needs none. I read that book in 2 days (which is ironic). After that day I went on and purchased the whole Gravel Road Series and read them. The author’s Gravel Road Series is an amazing pass time and I strongly recommend it to everyone. Buy it, you won’t regret it.

The book can be a little confusing at first since the characters and conflicts is introduced later on instead of in the beginning. It is a book about a girl who takes responsibility for her actions, even though she got turned down by her boyfriend. The story starts with her getting kicked out of her house by her mom (De Monte’s influence) on her mom because they find that she is taking birth control pills, the title kind of explains it though, the 2 days represent the days that she skipped the pills. Later she finds that she is expecting a baby, during her 3rd year of high school. During her senior year, she works and goes to school, but she has to cut off the lifestyle that she has been living with her whole life. Her mom never enforced rules to her so she could come home at 3 am and wouldn’t get in trouble. Until her actions lead her to big consequences. She kept the baby and her mom and aunt helped her move forward with her baby. It’s a lesson in how all actions have consequences.

This is the story of a teenager who gets kicked out of her house by her mother after her mother’s boyfriend inappropriately touches her. This high interest novel offers a whirlwind of events and soon Neema, the main character, becomes pregnant. Neema loses her boyfriend, but has the loving support of her aunt the whole way through her difficult time. This story is mainly the coming of adulthood by Neema and her choice to take responsibility to properly care for her baby. I zoomed through this book in an hour because it truly was engrossing. The downside of that was that character development was not always strong. Even so, it should be very popular with teenagers, especially reluctant readers.

2 days is a book about a teenage girl name Neema. She use to live with her mom but she got into a argument with her mom's boyfriend. She gets kicked out of her house by her mom.She stayed with her boyfriend Nate for awhile. But Nate's parents doesn't really like her so she left Nate's house.Another thing is she takes birth control and she already missed 2 days. She found out that she was pregnant, she came to her aunt and told her that she was pregnant. Her aunt is willing to take care of her while she doesn't have place to stay in.I think this is a good book, it has a good message of always trust your family no matter what the problem is because you can always count on your family.

A very short book for my taste, at least the 3 hours in the day that it took me to read it said that to me. But, i really enjoyed it. I usually never get attached to a book like that. I would've liked it to be a little more emotional, because i felt like everything just went by in a blur, but i liked how simple it was. I recommend it to anyone who just want a small, simple book to read on a lazy day. Can't say i didn't see the climax coming, (especially since the Acknowledgements are in the very beginning) But, i enjoyed it. It was worth my time. <3
